A reliable source who has knowledge with the negotiations said the 5-foot-11 Miller already gave his approval to the deal with the Kings, which is approximately worth P8.4 million for two seasons. That means the Olongapo City native will earn a maximum salary of P350,000. “It’s a done deal,” said the source, who asked not to be named as the contract has yet to be finalized. In a telephone interview with the Bulletin, San Miguel Corp. (SMC) basketball operations chief Robert Non said that they will start talks with all the players with expiring contracts next week. Aside from Barangay Ginebra, the SMC group also owns San Miguel Beer and B-Meg Derby Ace. Miller, 33, the league MVP in 2002 and 2006-07 seasons, joined Ginebra in a blockbuster one-on-one trade with Alaska last April 28 in exchange for high-leaping guard Cyrus Baguio. Miller helped the Kings enter the quarterfinals of the Fiesta Cup, but they lost to the Alaska Aces in a thrilling five-game series. Baguio, on the other hand, played a key role in Alaska’s title campaign in the recently-concluded Fiesta Cup Finals when they beat San Miguel Beer in six games of the seven-game showdown. Sa pananaw kung sino ang mas magaling na player, hindi lang naman yan usaping MVP.
