iPhone 6 Is Pulling Hairs (Literally)

Lauren TuckAssistant EditorOct 7, 2014

Of all the complaints made about the new iPhone 6, this might be the worst one yet … well, at least for vanity’s sake. Many users of the device are complaining about the fact that hair from their heads and beards is getting caught in the seams of the gadget and being ripped out.

“I’m concerned about my iPhone 6 Plus, keeps yanking out my hair when I’m making a call,” an anonymous user wrote in a community post on 9to5mac.com. “Initially I thought it was the hair sticking to the screen protector. But upon closer inspection, it was the seam between the glass and aluminum — hair gets stuck and when you try to free it out, it hurts.” This complainer isn’t the only one out there with the painful issue. Many have taken to Twitter to voice their distress.

But while this issue might cause temporary discomfort, losing a few strands of hair isn’t really something to return your new iPhone 6 over (after all, it took waiting on a very long line just to get it). Women lose an average of 50 to 150 strands of hair per day — just look in the shower drain for this evidence. As for the men, if the phone is getting caught on stubble maybe it’s time for a shave and for those with beards, a trim could be in order.

Video shows the iPhone 6’s LTE speeds are insanely fast compared with the iPhone 5s

http://l.yimg.com/os/152/2013/06/24/BGR-Logo1-jpg_210257.jpg By Brad Reed 1 hour ago

It turns out that the LTE speed boost you get with the iPhone 6 really is as awesome as advertised. iClarified conducted a speed test on both the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 5s and found that the newer phone delivered download speeds that were more than three times faster than the older phone while also delivering upload speeds that were around 10Mbps faster. All told, the iPhone 6 was capable of getting downloads at just under 100Mbps while the 5s’s download speeds maxed out at around 34Mbps. When it came to upload speeds, the iPhone 6 maxed out at around 26Mbps while the iPhone 5s maxed out at 16Mbps.

iClarified says it decided to conduct the speed tests to check out Apple’s claims that the iPhone 6 would deliver vastly faster speeds than any previous iPhone. It turns out that Apple wasn’t bluffing, although a teardown of the device could have told us that since it revealed the iPhone 6 features a Qualcomm MDM9625M LTE Category 4 modem that can offer peak download speeds of up to 150Mbps and peak upload speeds of up to 50Mbps. Even so, it’s nice to get confirmation that this works out great in the real world and isn’t just something that looks good on a spec sheet.

based on your experience, stable and safe na ba mag-update to ios 8 sa iphone 5s? ty

Don't do that! I regret doing that. Battery life after the upgrade sucks. During the day 20% or red na agad mga 10am palang (that's barely four hours unplugged). Naka off na location services ko, e-mails ko di na naka "push". Lahat na ng techniques ginawa ko na. First off all, pangit na talaga battery life ng iphone ko before the upgrade. Siguro within the day I need to charge once (using my battery case). Now, after the upgrade, I need to charge twice in order to last the day. Am getting frustrated.

My Lumia 1020 on the other hand lasts me the whole day, pag uwi ko pa I still have 50% battery and I turn on my location services the whole day, push e-mail (four accounts), social networking.

Am about to give up on my iphone and I may move out of IOS.

Is your phone's data services on the whole day?

Yes. It is turned on the whole day. I do that for both my phones. I also did that with my previous phone (Samsung S4). Data services are on, WIFI is on, bluetooth is off, location services is off (turned on only when I use waze).

In my other phone almost everything is turned on, Data Services, WIFI, Location Services, Bluetooth, only NFC is turned off.

I need data services because I get lots of e-mail throughout the day. I am mostly out on meetings so I rely a lot on e-mails read thru my mobile phones.

Apple launches probe after Chinese bride-to-be, 23, dies ‘from massive electric shock while answering her iPhone 5′

Apple has launched an urgent safety probe into its iPhone 5 amid claims a bride-to-be died from a massive electric shock while answering a call in China.

Ma Ailun, a former flight attendant with China Southern Airlines, collapsed to the ground when she picked up her smartphone as it charged at home on Thursday, her family said.

The 23-year-old, who was planning to wed on August 8, was rushed to hospital in Xinjiang, northwest China, but medics were unable to revive her.

Her brother, Yuelun, told Apple Daily that the family believe she died from an electric shock while answering a call and that the phone and its accessories have been handed over to the Chinese authorities

Her sister then wrote on social networking site Weibo: ‘I want to warn everyone else not to make phone calls when your mobile phone is recharging.’

She said Ma had bought the iPhone in December at an official Apple store and was using the original charger to recharge the phone when the incident occurred.

HOW SAFE IS YOUR iPHONE? THE MALFUNCTIONS THAT HAVE DOGGED APPLE IN RECENT YEARS

Apple’s mobile gadgets have a generally good safety record with few serious defects reported since the first generation iPhone was launched in 2007.

However, as smartphones become more powerful, with larger batteries needing more electricity to power them, there have been growing reports of dangerous malfunctions that have dogged the firm in recent years.

February 2013 - Marketing manager Shibani Bhujle, from New York, claimed the battery of her iPhone 4S spontaneously melted, oozing acid that destroyed the handset.

January 2013 - An Oregon fire crew blamed an apartment blaze on an overheated MacBook battery which dropped onto a mattress.

December 2011 - An iPhone 4 reportedly began emitting smoke in a plane cabin on a flight to Australia.

December 2011 - It was reported that an iPhone 4 was plugged in to charge overnight in Brazil when it began to emit smoke and sparks as its owner slept nearby.

November 2011 - Apple recalled all iPod Nanos amid fears the batteries on older models were prone to overheating and catching fire.

In 2010, a man in northeast China was killed by an electric shock when making a phone call with a handset that was being recharged with an unauthorized charger, according to the China Consumers Association.

In 2008 a 3G owner claimed his phone overheated in his pocket and burned his leg while he was asleep.

But Apple is not the only smartphone maker to have come under fire for faulty gadgets.

Just last week, a Swiss teenager suffered second and third degree burns when her Samsung Galaxy S3 apparently exploded in her pocket.

In May, a Reddit user posted pictures on the site of his charred Galaxy S3, claiming he was ‘awoken by a loud noise and a weird squeaking sound’ to find it smouldering by the side of his bed.

‘We will fully investigate and co-operate with authorities in this matter.’

China’s popular social media chat sites, called Weibos, were flooded with posts urging fellow iPhone users not to make calls while charging their phones.

And many warned to only use original chargers and avoid plugging in cheap copy chargers which are widely available.

‘Be sure to select only qualified, certifiable products - the best is the original because safety is most assured. Don’t buy fake chargers!’ warned poster Zhao Chao.

Apple products are popular in China but new items are quickly cloned by the country’s infamous copy merchants who produce look-a-like fake phones, laptops, iPads and iPods, which are often hard to distinguish from originals.

Mobile phones have a relatively low electrical output of between 3 to 5 volts – much less than the 36 volts it takes for a person to feel a shock.

But experts say if the charger or the circuit has a problem, such as a broken wire, it can lead to a shock of 220 volts.

Johnny Sin Kin-on, a professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, told theSouth China Morning Post: ‘There is a risk using an electrical device while its installed battery is being charged, be it a shaver or a phone.’

The iPhone 5′s much-vaunted launch last September saw thousands of Apple fans queue for days outside Apple stores across the world to be the first to get their hands on the state-of-the-art gadget.

Grinning customers were greeted with cheers and high fives from staff as they walked into stores ready to grab the latest hotly-anticipated smartphone.

It costs between £529 and £699 in the UK and $199 and $399 in the US, depending on the amount of memory, has a larger screen and is lighter and slimmer than previous models.

The news comes as it was revealed today thatApple has fallen off the top ten list of best-perceived brands in 2013.

The tech firm – known for its trailblazing innovation – lost its charismatic front man Steve Jobs in 2011 and then faced a chorus of disapproval over allegations of child labor in its supply chain, not to mention long-reported harsh conditions in its Chinese factories.

Most recently, the brand was convicted on Wednesday of conspiring to raise and fix the price of e-books in an attempt to dominate the market leader, Amazon.

I have the first iPhone, (i skipped a lot of models dahil ayaw ko sa itsura at features) a 4s, and a 5s... unfortunately after steve jobs died, i don't like the way the screen size is getting bigger and how the IOS updates are being handled. i hate samsung with their big screens and sadly iPhone is going the same way.....

seriously considering other brands already but not android... hmmmm nokia? god i hate windows mobile before......

You have few options if you're not considering the Android OS. Nokia's non-existent until 2016, since their devices division was sold to Microsoft. Windows Phones are getting better with their newer releases; you should give them a try.

Blackberry still exists, apparently. But would steer clear of the dying brand.

Personally own the 4S, as it's the last iPhone with a 3.5" screen. The bigger screens will only continue, as we use our phones for more than just calling or texting anymore.
