Jazz Break Knick Jinx !

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Mehmet Okur sat exhausted in his locker, too tired to relish scoring 29 points and leading Utah to its fourth straight win.

Okur hadn't eaten for more than a day because of a stomach bug, and had just played more than 43 minutes in helping lead the Jazz back from a 10-point deficit and beat the New York Knicks 104-102 on Saturday night.

"I feel weak. I just want to go home," said Okur, whose layup with 12 seconds left in regulation forced the overtime.

Derek Fisher scored 14, breaking a tie with 3 seconds left on a layup off a pass from Deron Williams, who had 10 assists for Utah.

The Jazz ended a five-game losing streak against the Knicks despite having a weary Okur, Andrei Kirilenko playing gingerly with back spasms and Fisher favoring a sore toe.

"I'm just happy with the way these guys played," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "I thought they played their hearts out to try to win the game. That speaks volumes for them."

Paul Millsap had 18 points and nine rebounds, and Matt Harpring added 13 points and seven boards for the Jazz, who won despite getting outrebounded 50-36 and going just 15-for-27 from the foul line.

Game Highlights :

With the win , the Jazz broke a four game losing streak to the Knicks ( Utah's last win against the Knicks was 92-78 on Dec. 20, 2004 in NY ). They also grabbed the 3rd pace in the Western Conference from San Antonio and maintained their Northwest division lead over Denver who reamin 7.5 games behind the Jazz.

Wow, and to think the Suns have a hard time beating this team...

Good win against the Knicks. Maybe Okur could replace A.I. in the ASG...

that'll be good for Memo ! AI looks like he's suiting up though. btw ... things are still looking up for the jazz as they won their 5th in a row . Mehmet "Money"Okur had 19 points and six rebounds before sitting out the fourth quarter and the Utah Jazz beat the Atlanta Hawks 102-76.

Deron Williams added nine assists and Andrei Kirilenko had 11 points and four blocks for the Jazz, who are on their longest winning streak since eight in a row in November while opening the season 12-1.

The Hawks had won five straight on the road, beating the Warriors 106-105 Sunday night in Oakland, but they had very little left for the Jazz.

Atlanta was just 4-for-17 in the opening quarter and was down by 12 before the end of the first period. By the fourth, it was just a battle of the reserves as the Jazz beat the Hawks for the ninth straight time.

the cavs and king james are next for the jazz. can they make it six in a row ? :)

Jazz big man Mehmet Okur was named Tuesday to play in his first NBA All-Star Game.Along with Ray Allen of the Sonics,. Okur was named by nba commish David Stern after both Phoenix point guard Steve Nash and Denver guard Allen Iverson bowed out due to injuries. Okur will be the Jazz's only participating representative in Sunday's game in Las Vegas.

this is what memo had to say about his possible ASG nomination in an interview with the deseret news :

"It would be a great honor," said Okur, a member of Turkey's 2004 Olympic team. "Definitely, if it happens, my dream come true."

his partner , jazz point deron williams will still go to Vegas anyway — to play in Friday's rookie-sophomore game.

is trouble coming to town ?

king james and his cavs are on the menu tomorrow for the jazz.

The Cavs are 5-1 against the Jazz since drafting James in 2003. The Cleveland star scored 51 points to lead his team to a 108-90 win in the last meeting Jan. 21, 2006, and he has career averages of 30.3 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists against Utah.

coupled with the play of ex jazz guard sasha pavlovic ( 15 ppg in his last four games ) ... the jazz look like they're in for another tough one ...

Jazz win sixth straight ... nip Cavs !

Gordan Giricek smothered LeBron James throughout the fourth quarter and helped hold the Cleveland star to four points in the final period.

However, it was Giricek's final defensive play in Utah's 99-98 win Wednesday night that bothered the Cavaliers the most.

Giricek collided with Sasha Pavlovic before Pavlovic got off a 37-foot shot that missed at the buzzer. The Cavaliers thought he was fouled and stood in disbelief after the buzzer when none of the officials blew a whistles.

"He dribbled the basketball and Giricek tried to take a charge and he slid to the side and he fouled him with time on the clock," Cleveland coach Mike Brown said. "Maybe that's too tough a position for the refs to be in to make that type of call. Watching the replay, it was a foul and it's unfortunate for us."

The Jazz were badly outrebounded and made just 60 percent of their free throws, but the held James to just eight points in the second half and beat Cleveland for the first time in nearly three years.

Utah has won six straight entering the All-Star break. Deron Williams scored a career-high 33 points and had 12 assists for Utah and Giricek -- not known for his defensive play -- held James to 1-for-5 shooting in the fourth

Game notes : Entering the all star break , utah expanded its division lead over denver ( who lost against minnesota) to 8.5 games. utah also remained # 3 overall in the conference as it matched wins with san antonio who reaimns half a game behind the jazz.
