Major Spoilers on HHH/Hardy, Rumble, Batista, Mania, and More

Reported by: Marc Middleton

Updated on December 4, 2007 6:01 PM EST

- As previously posted, the winner of the Jeff Hardy vs. Triple H match at WWE's Armageddon pay-per-view will get a WWE Title shot at the Royal Rumble in January. As things are planned now, Triple H will likely win the WWE Title from Randy Orton, probably at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view. If plans stay the same, then Triple H will be going over Hardy at Armageddon this month and Orton will likely regain the WWE Title over Chris Jericho.

The current plan after that is for Triple H to wrestle Batista at WrestleMania 24 in Orlando. There is major talk within WWE of doing this match at WrestleMania instead of the previously planned Orton vs. HHH match.

It's unknown right now if Batista will be winning the Royal Rumble, but it makes sense because the winner can face any brand's Champion at WM 24. Seeing how Batista is on SmackDown and HHH on RAW right now, Batista would pretty much have to win the Rumble to face HHH at WrestleMania because of the rules of the upcoming Elimination Chamber match at No Way Out, that will only feature wrestlers from the same brand. The other brand's Champion will have six superstars from his brand face off in the Elimination Chamber match with the winner getting the other World Title shot at WrestleMania. It looks like that match will be a SmackDown brand match.

It looks like Batista will lose his title sometime soon as there's no way WWE will have a Title vs. Title unification match at WrestleMania. Edge will likely be the one to take the strap from Batista. It makes sense for The Undertaker to win the Elimination Chamber match and face Edge at WrestleMania in a huge match, with the title and the winning streak on the line.

now i lost interest in watching Royal Rumble :thumbsdownsmiley: :thumbsdownsmiley: :thumbsdownsmiley:

WWE Trying To Get Major Star At WrestleMania 24

Source - Wrestling Observer Newsletter

Jimmy Hart is currently trying to persuade Hulk Hogan into coming back for WrestleMania this year. The thought is that if NBC's American Gladiators is a hit they can use WrestleMania as a vehicle to cross-promote the show.

Hogan and Vince initially had a fall out early in 2007, largely because of his SummerSlam payoff. He was originally scheduled to be Donald Trump's representative at WrestleMania 23 in the role that went to Bobby Lashley. There were also ideas last year of having Hogan face Big Show or Great Khali at Ford Field with the idea of duplicating the famous Andre the Giant slam from 20 years earlier. Another idea that was pondered was to have Shane McMahon be Hogan's opponent with Khali in the corner (with the idea they couldn't trust a Hogan vs. Khali match) to build to a slam. The final straw for Hogan was when the WWE creative team did an angle where they used Jillian Hall to mock his daughter Brooke.

Hogan and Eric Bischoff had also talked about starting a new wrestling promotion as a nostalgia tour. The idea would be to take Hogan outside of North American to markets he had either rarely or never appeared. The talk of doing a U.S. tour lost a lot of interest after the Memphis show which tested the market for Hogan vs. Paul “Big Show” Wight by only drawing 2,200 fans. This was the only Hogan match this year, and since Nick's accident in August all talk in direction of the promotion has seemed to have been dropped.

With Hogan confirmed for next week's WWE Monday Night RAW 15th Anniversary show it does appear that his relationship with Vince is improving.

another waste of airtime :sleepysmiley03:

That Taker-Edge match at WM24 could be good. .However, that HHH-Batista will be a bore...

Why not just make Jericho-Edge match? Or a CM Punk-Shawn Michaels match? Even a HHH-CM Punk match would rule. Or an Orton-CM Punk bout? If they want Batista, then make sure Batista deliver the goods...

At least Cena won't have anything to do in the main event...

JBL was on Raw last night because he will be traveling with them to the Middle East this week.

For those that are wondering, the APA reunion will not be a permanent thing. It can’ t be a permanent thing because it wouldn’t make sense. The APA gimmick is that of two guys who get paid to provide protection. The JBL character is different from the Bradshaw character in that the JBL character is a financial success.

Anyways, JBL will be traveling with the Raw crew over to the Middle East to be on WWE’s annual show for the troops. As always, the location for the show will be withheld from the public due to security issues.

JBL is expected to return to his duties as the Smackdown color commentator when he returns to the country later on this week. There are also reports that he’s still working out in preparations of a full time return to the ring.

It seems like plans for Wrestlemania 24 are changing on a daily basis.

The closest thing to a sure bet is that Edge and the Undertaker will be facing off in a high profile match. With that match being the biggest possible fresh matchup in WWE right now, Smackdown appears to be set for Wrestlemania 24.

With the World Heavyweight Championship match seemingly set, management needs to find a good WWE Heavyweight Championship match.

It is believed that the original plan was to have Triple H and John Cena battling for the title. With John Cena not likely to be ready by then, the writers are sifting through the roster to find someone to pair up with Triple H.

A match between Randy Orton and Triple H was discussed, but management may be losing a bit of faith in the WWE Heavyweight Champion because of the lackluster reaction that he’s been getting from the audience these past few weeks.

Batista is the latest candidate to be placed in a match with Triple H at Wrestlemania 24.

There are talks about putting Jeff Hardy into his first main event title match at a pay per view in January.

With the Royal Rumble being such a big event, WWE can afford to try out different things on the undercard. With the battle royale itself being the main draw, management can throw a midcarder like Jeff Hardy into a WWE Heavyweight Championship match. Jeff Hardy’s popularity is still at a high level, so putting him into a high profile match could do wonders in keeping his loyal fan base happy.

At Armageddon, Jeff Hardy and Triple H will do battle in a #1 Contender’s match.

Mr Kennedy took a shot at Scott Hall on Monday Night Raw.

During the segment where impersonators were brought out, Mr Kennedy said, “Thanks for coming” to the Razor Ramon (Scott Hall’s character in WWE) impersonator.

That was a shot at Scott Hall for once again failing to show up for a wrestling show. He failed to appear as scheduled at the Turning Point pay per view on Sunday night. No wordyet on whose decision that was to make the comment (Mr Kennedy’s, Vince McMahon’s, or the writing staff).

For those of you that are wondering, Shawn Michaels and Scott Hall are not as close as they once were. The comment shouldn’t lead to any bad blood between Mr Kennedy and Shawn Michaels.

See... all this W24 talk is still too early since a lot might happen in between. Let's just let it pass and let the storyline flow for the meantime.

there was an earlier plan of Mr. Kennedy being the bastard son of vince that will threaten the family business. thus HHH to the rescue revealing himself as the son in law. and the plan was to put HHH and Mr. kennedy in a match at WM24 for the rights of the family business or something... but that has changed. :thumbsdownsmiley:

so i expect some changes on this one coz as you say its too early.

HHH vs. Kennedy would be better than batista though :thumbsupsmiley:

Vince McMahon has been revealed as the person who canceled the most recently interesting storyline in ECW between Balls Mahoney and Kelly Kelly.

It's rare to find a midcard storyline that ends up taking a life of its own and takes over as the focal point of a brand. That's what ECW had when they started a storyline between Balls Mahoney and Kelly Kelly.

Wrestling audiences have always been fans of the underdog storylines. When Kelly Kelly's character started showing interest in Balls Mahoney, fans had themselves the ultimate underdog story.

Nothing against Balls Mahoney. He's probably a good looking man in his own rights (he does have a girlfriend in real life), but very few people would bet on him being able to attract a woman as beautiful as Kelly Kelly.

For weeks, fans were teased with the prospect that Kelly Kelly was going to be leaving behind her friends in Extreme Expose to be with Balls Mahoney. With every passing week, the crowd reaction began getting louder and louder.

Much of the credit has to go to ECW head writer Dusty Rhodes. He actually spent the time to write out the storyline weeks in advance. He also spent considerable time with Balls Mahoney and Kelly Kelly, working with them on their promo skills.

His hard work actually got Vince McMahon to notice Kelly Kelly more, which ironically ended up killing the storyline.

Reports claim that Vince McMahon ended the storyline because he believes that Kelly Kelly can be the next big diva. He feels that having her involved with Balls Mahoney might reduce her stock. There's even talks about moving her to either Raw or Smackdown to increase her exposure.

Vince McMahon began taking a stronger interest in Kelly Kelly around the same time the fans did. That time was when her storyline with Balls Mahoney started gaining steam. WWE could be making a huge mistake here by killing the momentum that was being built up.

The momentum from this storyline actually benefitted quite a bit of people.

One of the biggest complaints about ECW is that management failed to develop a #2 babyface behind CM Punk. There were never any plans to have Balls Mahoney take over that spot. In fact, Vince McMahon would have thought you were insane for even assuming that Balls Mahoney could take over that spot. However, the storyline was so good that Balls Mahoney ended up becoming the #2 babyface in ECW by default.

Kelly Kelly went from being good eye candy in Extreme Expose to being a character with more depth; a character that the audience started connecting with.

The Miz also received a rub from the storyline. It was just enough to elevate him into the main event scene in ECW.

Management is constantly trying to figure out ways of getting the audience to care about wrestlers they wish to push. It's a bit foolish to end a storyline that "accidentally" elevates someone.

Even though Carlito has given his notice to the company, WWE still hopes that he changes his mind. They'd rather not lose another wrestler to TNA right now.

Chris Masters has mentioned that he's quite interested in working for TNA. However, TNA has shown very little interest in bringing him in right now.

Management is in no rush to bring DH Smith back to television. When he does come back, he won't be receiving a big push. He'll be stuck in the midcard.

Management is leaning towards putting the WWE Heavyweight Championship back on Triple H so he can go into Wrestlemania as the champion.

Is the Cruiserweight Division Dead?

When Vickie Guerrero announced on Smackdown that the WWE Cruiserweight Championship was vacant, most people didn't expect it to be a permanent thing.

Cruiserweight Decline

The WWE Cruiserweight Championship and the cruiserweight division itself have been on a decline for a while now. What once was considered a strong point on a wrestling show has now been relegated to an afterthought.

It's a shame too since the belt can be traced back to the likes of great wrestlers like Jushin "Thunder" Liger, Dean Malenko, Brian Pillman, Rey Mysterio, Ultimo Dragon, Chris Jericho, Eddie Guerrero, Juventud Guerrera, Psychosis, Tajiri, Matt Hardy, Chavo Guerrero, and a few others.

For years, WCW held the cruiserweight division in high regards. While they weren't the main attraction (the nWo, Sting, Goldberg, and the Four Horsemen basically filled that role), very few could argue that they weren't a vital part in helping WCW beat WWE in the ratings.

Aside from a short period of time where Madusa and Oklahoma (former WCW and WWE writer Ed Ferrara) held the belt, the cruiserweight championship matches were usually hotly contested matches. They provided the substance while the nWo provided the style.

When WWE brought the championship back, it initially began building up prestige again. Some of the better matches on pay per views were fought over the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

The Final Straw

The final straw for a lot of wrestling purists was when Hornswoggle captured the WWE Cruiserweight Championship at the Great American Bash in July.

People weren't so much upset that a vertically challenged wrestler had won the belt. They were more upset that a once prestigious belt was reduced to a running joke that basically only Vince McMahon and the writers found funny. Rather than utilizing the belt to help elevate one of the many talented cruiserweights on the Smackdown roster, the belt was used to enable the writers to come up with some cartoonish backstage skits.

When you have a division filled with guys like Chavo Guerrero, Funaki, Gregory Helms, Jamie Noble, Jimmy Wang Yang, Rey Mysterio, and Shannon Moore, it shouldn't be too difficult to provide some exciting matches. We understand WWE wanted to make sure that their employees don't take additional risks, but it's a still a shame that these guys aren't allowed to do what they do best. Pick any two of those guys and put them on a pay per view, and they'd be able to produce a candidate for Match of the Day.

Another thing that's disturbing is that WWE chooses to turn these guys into jobbers instead of having them provide depth in the United States Heavyweight Championship division and the WWE Tag Team Championship division. With a slight gimmick change, Jimmy Wang Yang and Funaki can provide the tag team division with a veteran tag team. Guys like Jamie Noble, Shannon Moore, and Chavo Guerrero can also contend for MVP's title.

Closing Thoughts

If WWE is going to bring the belt back and neglect it again, we'd much rather see it retired in a proper manner.

Torrie Wilson will miss a few weeks of action. She will be receiving physical therapy to help heal her injured back. Nattie Neidhart may be called up soon.

Tammy Sytch (formerly known in WWE as Sunny) has been confirmed for next week's Monday Night Raw. It's been almost a decade since she left.

Former ECW diva Brooke Adams has been telling people that she plans on working with TNA in the near future. She also plans on doing Playboy soon.

Vince McMahon will attempt to discuss a possible Wrestlemania match with Hulk Hogan and Steve Austin next week. Both are scheduled to appear on Raw

WWE has successfully negotiated a new deal with the USA Network to continue airing Monday Night Raw until 2010. The original contract was to end in 2008.

Trish Stratus has been listed again for next week’s Raw.

For some unknown reason, her name was removed from the list of former superstars that are expected to return for the 15th anniversary show.

Evolution will be making a one night only reunion on Monday Night Raw next week.

It’ll be interesting to see how WWE pulls this off. A reunion between Triple H, Ric Flair, and Batista can easily be done since all three guys are babyfaces. However, Randy Orton is a heel. That should add an interesting dynamic to the reunion.

Also, there’s word that WWE may be using the reunion to set up one of the potential main events for Wrestlemania with this reunion. Within the past few months, there’s been rumors of matches between HHH/Orton, HHH/Batista, and Batista/Orton. WWE may also use the Evolution reunion to help further the new Ric Flair storyline.

If TNA shows little interest to a young wrestler like Chris Masters, that could only mean that wrestler sucks big-time...

She got really fat the last I saw her...

Both of these guys won't let the other win, so this is going to be really hard to pull off. Plus they hate each other's guts...
