those are pretty nice astreas you got there. did you encounter any problems building'em?

Not so much as problems in building it, but some issues I have with the kits themselves. The neck is too thin, the shoulder fins keep getting dislodged (as shown in the pics), and a few joint problems. These two, plus the Exia, though, have way better detailing and articulation as compared to the 00.

Question: Is anyone going to attempt to build the OO Gundam 7S modification they featured in this month's Hobby Japan?

You mean this one?

(hough I know this one was on the Decmeber Ish, it might be another guy being featured)

I would try it, maybe after I'm done modding my 00 to add articulation at certain places (like the waist).

There's another feature article of that one in the March issue. Same one, but more how-to details.

Massive, and equally menacing.

Here's someone at Zero G who's actually building it from scratch.

Just dabbling a little with building gunpla.I'm more of a transformers fan, but hey, robots are robots. :D I originally started out with the china KOs of the 1/144 endless waltz series about 8(?) years ago but the materials were too flimsy and brittle so after i finished them I just stashed them away in a shoebox somewhere.

Fast forward several years later. With a better paying job and lots of free time, I got myself two of these to start off my small collection. :D

MG 1/100 Unicorn Gundam, Ver Ka.

Took me around a week to assemble this because my only tool was a nail clipper, a scalpel and fine sandpaper. The first kit I just snap built, and I am saving the second kit for when I have the skills to truly paint and give it justice.

This is the undecal'd "normal" mode.

Being plain white, it's not very visually appealing, even when I've panel-lined it a little.

Psycho Mode

Still with no decals yet, but I was too excited to see it in action.

Decals, finally

The thing with the Ver Ka gundams is, Hajime Katoki really, really likes his decals, and this one was no exception. There were two decal sheets included with this kit, all in around 2, maybe 3cm long. I had to apply them using two toothpicks and I am afraid I messed some of them up. Not too noticeable in the pics.

And a group pic with a 1/144 Gundam 00 that I picked up while on sale.

Eventually, I plan to build a collection of Ver. Ka Gundams. Next target would be the Sinaju, and the Wing Zero. I'm skipping the balls tho. :D

The 1/100 Ground-Type Tieren is also one of my favorites. Since it's ungraded, I'd say it's somewhere between an HG and an MG. Good, solid feel to the model, and very excellent poseability and balance to it. I'm waiting for another sale so I can get some more Tierens to build an army. They're pricey at 1,700 SRP at Malls, and 1600 at greenhills.

Finally fixed the LED (entered it at TagCom basically lacking that mod since it broke at the last minute, and still it won 3rd place. I wonder, what if I was able to enter it with the LED).

Instead of reopening the head (which I realized was impossible without damaging the head, you can see the knife marks), I decided to trim away the plastic that holds the polycap so I can access the LED contacts. As it turned out, one of the clamps bit onto the very thin wires I used before, which already got scored when I stripped the insulation off.

I used 1mm koto spring units as connectors, which I realized are perfect for the mod since it "bites" onto the LED legs without the need of clamping or soldering. (Sufficed to say, I'll be using these on successive mods).

I provided enough slack on the springs so the head can turn freely.

http://i20.photobucket.com/albums/b209/ibanag/Gundam/IMG_1223.jpg

I used 1.5mm hollow (tubular) connectors I got from Deeco (the blue on the shoulder) as a "conduit." I drilled two holes on the backside of the Big Red's collar, allowing enough distance for the swivel/hinge, and affixed the tubes with superglue. This helps prevent the springs from sliding out of place.

Because it's naturally metallic black, the springs blend inconspicuously with the head assembly.
