Juan1
MJ ... the best there was, the best there ever will be... 6 rings, 5 MVPs , 10 scoring titles , 1 defensive player of the year award(he was MVP in the same year!), 2 Olympic gold medals..... too many achievements to mention. simply the best. :thumbsupsmiley: :thumbsupsmiley: He's the only one. Sales of NBA tickets went down when he first retired. Iba talaga ang MICHAEL JORDAN. Quote Link to comment

KAMANDAG
marketed lang masyado yan ng media...am am not a jordan fan but i lyk his game...still the greatest tlaga sympre boston celtics player..bill russell...nagkataon lang na inabutan na natin ang NBA ng may cable kaya masyado sya sumikat..pero kung achievements lang kaya pa ba burahin ang !! rings na nakuha ni bill russell? naabutan pa nya si WILT CHAMBERLAIN na kahit sino man mga centers ngayun de kayang tibagin sya pero si RUSSEL lang gumawa nun hah.. JORDAN is a very good player but not the greatest...its just media and nike made him famous. Quote Link to comment
genesisTamerlane
sa pagkakaalam ko si jordan ang nag pauso ng nike... kasi uso that time eh converse di ba? Quote Link to comment
rafer_alston
i think it's unfair to side by side JORDAN and RUSSELL, number 1, the difference in height, BILL RUSSELL is better than WILT CHAMBERLAIN pero for me JORDAN is still the best.. pero 11 rings is still 11 rings, so BILL is really a phenomenal player but athletic wise and talent wise, JORDAN is the BEST!!! wizard23
it's not MJ's fault that in his time, there's cable and media to hype his star power. but MJ is not only the greatest basketball player just because of his skills and achievements but because NBA became global during his prime. it's a testament to his greatness - imagine, at one time, he was the scoring champion and at the same time defensive player of the year - meaning he ruled the offense and defense department - not only that - he was a slam dunk champion - the oldest to score back-to-back 40 plus points when he was a wizard - 10 time scoring champion - 6 time mvp - 6 time finals mvp - 6 rings - and he did it without a legit center - when basketball should be dominated by big men. and in all his finals appearances, he never lost a finals series unlike shaq, kobe, bird, magic, ewing, barkley, wilt, jabbaar, and even russell. last but not the least, russel didnt' win 72 games. as MJ succinctly puts it - "anybody else win 70 games?". - coming from the greatest player who ever played the game. enough said! hehe. KAMANDAG
djrs
JORDAN is a very good player but not the greatest...its just media and nike made him famous. i am not a jordan fan. pero he is the greatest player dahil sya rin ang nagpasikat ng NBA isa sya dun.. sya rin ang nagpasikat ng todo sa NIKE. until now bumebenta parin sapatos nya... Magaling si jordan dahil gumagaling din ang kakampi nya dahil din sa kanya.. motivated ika nga... Quote Link to comment
dencio
:upside: Quote Link to comment
Bolj
nope Jordan's the greatest...arguably...He's the only guy who can make statements like "we will game 7" and do it...Russell is more on a defensive player and a leader...and those qualities are just "part" of Mike's game...We can enumerate multiple kinds of offensive moves of MJ and name a few of Russell's game... wizard23
^^ correct. they almost won win no. 70 on their 2nd year after winning 72 games. but Ewing and the knicks denied them the history of repeating it by beating the bulls on their last game of the season which should have been win no. 70 for the bulls. bukn0y
dude subukan mo din tanggalin si pippen from bulls tingnan natin ano mangyari sa bulls it takes two to tango ika nga. so hindi dahil kay jordan nag champion ang bulls kundi dahil sa kanilang lahat dahil ginawa nila ang nararapat na laro nila. Pippen is also a consistent player... matagal narin sila jordan at pippen sa chicago pero nung 90's sila nag dominate... jordan and pippen help the chicago bulls to win championships! nung nawala si jordan wala rin nangyari... but still consistent parin si pippen... Basketball is a Team game.. and it is not a one man show.. lalo na ngayon maraming team na defensive minded thru their coach.. You cannot win a championship if your team is not involved defensively and offensively... mali yung term mo na na "it takes two to tango:" a team is not consist of two... siguro mas ok kung "it takes a team to tango! 5starters 7reserved and a coach... orionpax
The main difference with the Russell - MJ comparision (for some, since its like comparing apples & oranges) Russell has 4 or 5 STARS (3 all Stars) plus subs that can be starters outside the Celtics in that run in the 60s MJ ONLY has Pip as his star side kick...and a legion of ROLE PLAYERS Besides.,..the word GREATEST is NOT limited to the "skill, number of rings, points, and all statistical thingies" Consider what the guy has done for the sport...it goes beyond the numbers and rings... Some players have the "skillz" as hommes would say... but is it enough? naaaa.... Edited February 1, 2009 by orionpax Quote Link to comment

And winning as a playing coach makes it much much sweeter, donchathink? However, MJ's legacy goes beyond that of Russel's.. Why? His games are top-notch.. Dramatic finishes and he is almost always on the limelight.. Media, you say? I say not.. His game winning shots, his impossible dunks goes beyond the unthinkable as he made basketball what it is today.. At the end of the day, as you say, its not about skills, its not about the accolades.. Its actually what impact you have done for the sport that makes you the greatest there is.. Jordan has made a lot of boo-boos after his last championship with Da Bulls, but his legacy can outgrow any boo-boos, because he is simply MICHAEL JORDAN.. Quote Link to comment
kanto-terrorist
ano bang career stats category naging #1 si MJ? he didnt hold the most no of pts, most number of career Ws, rings, assists, etc. Even vince carter have more impressive dunks than him. Kobe's game duplicate his. So stats wise, he's not the best. kulelat pa nga sya sa 3 point shoot-out na sinalihan nya minsan eh, a measly 5 points. so what made MJ the best? there must be something about him. hey, millions and legions of fans around the world and majority of posters in this thread cant go wrong. what's the x factor? marketing? orionpax
Using your Bruce Lee comparison...His sifu, Yip Man..was a great master and practitioner..yes...but only limited to "wing chun" kung fu... Lee "revolutionized" Oriental martial arts and elevated its status not only in HK. but the US and the World....his status, popularity and following is a testament to that...His movies are just the tip of the iceberg He developed his own system , JKD, his influences in boxing, fencing, kung-fu and other martial arts (judo) helped him achieve that.. hahaha..talo ako dami jordan fans! well...de mo talga matatawaran ang gilas ni jordan ganyan talga ang tao lang naman talga nagpapatanyag sa tao eh...kung si BRUCE LEE nga eh...na sumikat dahil sa media...de na gaanong napansin ang master nya..si IP MAN.. basketball ay laro ng limang tao...de naman ng isang tao...=] so what separates Yip Man and Bruce Lee?? ....... this post of Revs shows what At the end of the day, as you say, its not about skills, its not about the accolades.. theNatural
Russell and Jordan were children of their own eras.we'd probably think of them somewhat less if we switched them up.they are great in their own distinct ways and impacted the games differently. Russell won in an era where winning was everything---when style points didn't mean as much as hoisting the next trophy. his present-day equivalent is Tim Duncan---dude's got all those rings to show and he's really not getting the love he deserves. but in the modern era of the game, it's got to be MJ. no one redefined basketball---both as a game and a business quite the way he has---both in ways good and bad. just for sport, you throw Jordan back in time and well, he'd just be another athletic black guy moving full throttle and trying earnestly not to get throttled by the next angry, ignorant mob. you throw him out there and he's really more freak show than front-page material. MJ probably wouldn't able to pull that junk either as he'll just piss off legions of white people. he couldn't even claim the G.O.A.T. tag since the game wasn't really his. Quote Link to comment
thedynamite007
laban sila ng one on one ni russel ewan kualng kung di kumain ng alikabok yan. He has a better team and he is a center okay. Di naman greatest team and tanung dito and tanung ay greatest individual player. Baka si wilt okay pa peru jordan has lots of mvp and he won even without a legitimate center and won slam dunk contest and won defensive player of he year and gold medalist 2 times sa olympic. Anu pa? Quote Link to comment
