Magaling
the negra is best taken as a side dish with, perhaps a valenciana, since color black isnt exactly appetizing. well that's, at least how i take i. i couldnt order the negra as my main dish.<{POST_SNAPBACK}> Another way to enjoy paella negra would be to take one or two scoops of mayo and mix it up with the rice before you eat it. I find that it enriches the flavor of the squid ink. But it's just me. Might be too weird for you guys but give it a shot . . . Quote Link to comment

I hope you don't mind. If you're out on a date and there's just the two of you, ordering two types of paella might be too much. A good side dish that will go well with paella negra would be pollo al ajillo. At Minggoys, even my kids love the pollo al ajillo! Quote Link to comment
masi
Leche flan seems to be the most popular. It is actually very similar to the leche flan as we know it. Cremas (their version of creme brulee) are also okay although each region seems to have their own version (Honestly, I don't know this for a fact. The only reason I said this was because I've tried crema catalan and crema madrileño. Different names but they all taste pretty much the same to me). In Spain, I don't see a lot of desserts on the menu of most restaurants I've been to except for assorted cakes, pies and helados (that's home made ice cream for you). What we've done a couple of times after meals is to walk up to the nearest pasteleria for the usual suspects . . . pastillas, turrons, polvorons, etc. Geez . . .you could walk into a pasteleria and find over a dozen different kinds of pastillas! Their polvorons are actually very creamy and not nearly as dry as our version. At yung turron, hindi iyon yung turon na saging ha! It's close to what we call turones (as in turones de casuy and turones de mani) in the Philippines. I will be in Spain again later next week. Sana kung nandito ka sa Pinas, dadalhan kita ng pasalubong . . .Hehehe<{POST_SNAPBACK}> have a safe trip... Quote Link to comment

Yes, all that jamon and chorizo will eventually take their toll on you (or should I say us?). Yung chorizo pa naman, talagang napaka-sebo niyan! Yung jamon naman, has at least ten times more sodium than what your doctor would allow. I was going to suggest low fat mayo. But I know it's not the same thing. For me, low fat and low sodium also translate to low taste  Personally, kapag may bawal sa akin, I'd rather abstain completely rather than go for a poor substitute (this rule only applies to food, mind you. With most everything else, it's fair game  ). Quote Link to comment

gorgonite
Could that be Minggoy's, which is located at Casa Susana beside the ATC?<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Hmmm... it wasn't Minggoys. I don't know if the restaurant is still open today. It's been years since I passed by that area. It was in the building near Alabang-Zapote road/Madrigal Ave. intersection. Quote Link to comment

tentacle
. . . which casa armas branch do you frequent?<{POST_SNAPBACK}> we used to frequent their branch in jupiter. but now, their branch in greenbelt 2 is much more accessible from the office. so that's where we go on weekdays. on weekends, we go to their branch in podium as we live in QC. their original branch in malate isn't bad, too. i just find it a bit too crowded. spongebobby
had lunch at minggoy's at the fort yesterday. the paella was excellent, but everything else was ordinary. the leche flan was disappointing as it was seemed like it was just defrosted in the microwave. casa armas is still my fave.
