What's Your Video Card?

Sir Azrach, is quad sli only for tech shows or is it being sold to the public?

Sir Cheesekeso, nice rig!

They are out. I heard two players would be bringing quads next week on the lan party, in which I am to attend.

Here's one being distributed by Alienware

As a matter of fact, PC gamers have been waiting for is since late Jan. '06 but the WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certification for the Quad SLI delayed it. Dell is one of the first vendors to issue it, but now, almost all PC manufacturers sell it. Except it is not for sale, on its own, the reason being is that it requires (just for now) special hardwares not available for mainstream.

Gamers still view it as an overkill, which in my opinion, is not an exaggeration.

thanks for the fast reply. Yes, I'd like to overclock my cpu since it's getting outdated. I have a pair of Kingmax 512 MBs. I was advised that my mems are not good for overclocking.

I've seen a rig in the other site scoring 5000 pts in 3dmark06 with an amd 64 3000+ venice (overclocked to 2700mhz) paired with a geforce 7900 gt 512 mb. that's the score that i'd like to reach also. my mb btw is an MSI Platinum Edition (SLI).

Which memory would you recommend to suit my overclocking needs if my budget is capped at P5K?

Well, we have 2 choices :D

1. Go for 240fsb w/ 166 dividers (200mhz) or 300fsb w/ 133 dividers (189mhz), then use your multipliers :D This was, you don't have to buy a new set of mems :D

2. If you really wanna overclock with that budget, you need to have a pc shop which knows you already so you can do this :D

Ok, there are a few number of mems (Value mems) that can oc pretty well, of course, you need to know what you're looking for first :D

Here's a list of memory modules which are overclockable if you know what you are looking for:

1. Twinmos Value mems - Look at the sticker, it must have the AA4T at the end of the model no. :D It's a Winbond UTT mem, decently overclockable w/ decent timings :D Needs some vdimm though :D

2. Geil Value Select - I forgot some key info in finding the one with a Winbond UTT chips, but it should have 2 dimples, which is usually a sign of a Winbond UTT :D

3. PQI - PQI also have overclockable mems, although not a Winbond UTT, instead, they make up for it by having a Brainpower PCB, look at the top right corner of your mem, if it has the marking B6xxxxxx, its a Brainpower :D Usually, its usually paired with a TCC5 or Hynix, which are good overclockers but needs loose timings :D

4. PH - A quite generic mems but reliable, same as PQI, but make sure to get the double sided mem :D Because there are some Single sided PH's out there too :D

Except for Geil, everything will be 4k or below :D

Disclaimer: Having these key info doesn't give any *real* assurance they are overclockable :D Its a pattern that you can use, and since they are binned as "Value" and not as an overclocking mem, results will vary :D

i have a question to the pc gurus, i want to play quake IV in a high/highest setting but for the moment my pc can't handle it really well so i have to downgrade the graphics quality to medium. will it be advisable if i overclock my Nvidia 5700LE 256mb video card to be able to play Quake IV in my desired settings? i have a 1G ram but my processor speed falls short to just 1.6Ghz. thanks.

Hi, may I know why some people recommend buying memory in pairs?

ie 2 pcs of 512mb instead of 1 pc of 1g

If I am using a dual core 2.66 P4, I would I miss if I use 1 pc of 1g instead of 2pcs of 512mb?

Thanks.

I second cheese. Many of my friends in the American forums prefer and suggested me to buy a pair of 512MB RAM instead of 1piece of 1Gig RAM.

Reminder, unless you are using Windows XP Pro x64 or the upcoming Windows Vista, XP Pro has maximum of 2Gb memory. Using more than that may slow down your memory performance.

Just a share. ^_^

For me, I think that will do a little increase in performance. If you have much higher versions of video cards like the 6 series or 7, maybe it is possible. :P

What is your processor AMD or Intel?:P I suggest before overclocking, be sure that you have enough cooling. You don't want to end up frying your components right. Because when you OC your card, perhaps you can also OC your memory and CPU to further add performance.. Or if you are not feeling safe of OCing by itself, you could get a new piece of an AGP card. I heard rumors that 7600GT will be available to AGP8X slot the said when the GeForce 8 come out.

Just my opinion..
