I'll agree this is an excellent proposal. Problem is the ones making the laws are the ones who benefit from these unethical practices. Law makers will never agree to pass such a law. Any one who does propose such a law will be ostracized by the majority and will never belong to the "big boys' club. Even urban poor groups will oppose this since they also benefit from the "benevolence" of candidates during the campaign period.

Any one who does propose such a law will be ostracized by the majority and will never belong to the "big boys' club. Even urban poor groups will oppose this since they also benefit from the "benevolence" of candidates during the campaign period.

This is a sad commentary of the realities in the Philippines. Many Filipinos squander what ever good fortune comes their way. They win P5 million in the lotto, the first thing they do is spend, spend, spend. Then the friends, neighbors, and other hangers-on start asking for money. Before they know it, the money's gone.

 

Admittedly, there's no tried and tested formula to preserve and make the money grow. But I do know that letting others know that you've just won the lotto is a bad idea. That's where all the problems begin. The temptation to spend on unnecessary items is also a sure fire way to go back to the poor house. It's therefore important to keep a low profile and keep expenses to the barest minimum. Live as if you're still poor.

 

One must also know how to properly budget the money. Some of that money must be set aside for daily expenses. The rest must be invested wisely.

 

This is where wisdom and good luck come into play.

Repeal the law which decriminalizes squatting. Squatting should be looked at for what it really is. The theft of private property. If carnapping, (which is theft of privately owned vehicles) is a crime, why consider the theft of real property any other way? If ever, the penalties for stealing someone's land should be higher than the penalties for car theft because real property cost more than vehicles. Generally speaking, of course.

 

In addition to this, it should be made that you can defend your real property with terminal lethal force. Along with the right of all citizens who have no criminal records to bear arms, none of this gun free phils-need a permit for a gun BS to protect themselves against squatters and their accompanying criminality.

 

Cut off all "social services" so that the squatters should face the choice of the everyday working pinoys, work or starve. We should also have a requirement that voters should have a residency certificate and ITR to prevent squatters from being tolerated by government official to pad their votes.

Tama ka diyan. As I commented in an earlier post, many people do not know how to handle money properly. They spend on useless things, lend money to people who don't pay them back, and fail to properly invest windfalls. Before they know it, all the money's gone.

I could be wrong but I think realty taxes would constitute the bulk of the income that local government units collect in their city/municipality. Anyway it might be a good idea to combine the criminalization of squatting and exempting land owners from paying realty taxes if their properties are taken over by squatters.

I agree. Or maybe a stiff fine so that it will be traumatic for the drivers of these PUVS and will make them think twice before repeating the same traffic infraction.

 

 

I'm pretty certain that the main cause of traffic in the metropolis is the indiscriminate obstruction of traffic by PUVs. If there were no obstructions traffic would move quite freely even with the large number of vehicles. It just takes one tiny obstruction by one bus on EDSA to create a traffic jam. Now multiply that with thousands of buses stopping indiscriminately to pick up or unload passengers. This creates obstructions which leads to heavy traffic.

 

In view of this, I support criminalizing drivers of PUVs and/or imposing a stiff fine to those who obstruct traffic. Habitual violators should not only lose their license and fined, but actually jailed to teach them a lesson. The economy loses so much because of these drivers. It's but fair for society to lock them up. This will serve as a deterrent to drivers who habitually obstruct traffic.
