PacMan's Corner

Manny obviously wants to fight boxers in the early 30's where again he will have an easy win and bring home the bacon (kuno!) to his Filipino countrymen..

regarding on the issue of money. Valero is a reigning WBA champion so it will again be a big payday for both fighters.

Valero is more explosive, young, and hungry...20-0 professional record, 18 first round knockouts.. This must be a good fighter. If Mr Pookyaw wants to seal his supremacy in the featherweight division, then this will be his legitimate chance to do it.and not by beating Lolo Barrera.

Valero may have no defense whatsoever but if he and Pacquiao turn this to a slugfest, this would be the most entertaining fight Pacquiao has ever been a part of...

Just two raging bulls in a ring! That's my kind of boxing...

A lot of people like their boxing in a scientific way. Me? I prefer bloody contests. Hagler-Hearns, that's a fight! Not the longest fight, but simply one of the most brutal...

For leagcy purposes, I'd rather have Pacaquiao fight Barrera first. If he gets his belts, he will also be probably installed by Ring Magazine as their people's champ which is currently vacant. I guess they're keeping it vacant for him. He only needs to repeat his featherweight match victory of Barrera at the higher weight class to formally lay claim to this. Even if he wins against Valero and/or Guzman and get their belts, the best Jr. Lightweight people's title will probably still be left empty untill Pacquaio squares off with Marco. If Juan Miguel Marquez gets Marco's belts first (in the event that the legal wranglings pushes back the Barrera fight and marco ends up squaring off with Marquez) then it might even get more complicated as he needs to beat them both to become undisputed People's champ.

If there will be no legal obstacles, fight Barrera for the legacy and Ring's People's title then fight Juan Miguel Marquez for closure if he's still up to it. I'm betting that Juan Miguel Marquez will be a little bit slower and much easier to hit at the higher weight class. But he is still the most dangerous fighter out there for Pacquiao who can beat him without really hurting him as he is a great counterpuncher. After that, if the money is right, Pacquiao can give the younger studs a big a chance and a also a chance for him to clean out the division. However, I see that Pacquiao will steam roll past Guzman even if he's a better boxer than Valero as he won't be able to withstand Pacman's onslaught and new found defense and footwork. For Valero, as Clubber said, old style slam bang affair. I give the big edge to the experienced, battled scarred, championship calibre and harder hitting Pacquaio. Sure Valero can hit but his defense and chin has never been tested. Mosquera, the WBA champ he knocked out in the 10th can never be mistaken to be in the same class as Barrera or Morales. And Valero hasn't been hit by someone who can break his nose in three places as well. Ask Lesoholo Ledwaba who was unhittable as a Featherweight champ and had more than decent power and a strong chin. Of course, those fights, even with legitimate belts at stake won't guarantee a huge payday (ask Marquez who as WBA champ went to Indonesia to defend it against Chris John for $ 35,000) and after the Barrera and Morales fights, assuming that Pacquiao wins, will only be taken at the right price. If he loses, a rematch trilogy with Barrera and/or Morales wil take precedence for all the obvious reasons (BIGGER MONEY) and the fights with Valero and Guzman will be remote. They'll be left licking their chops on a missed big payday and should just start their own rivalry if they're really that good and a lot better than Pacquaio as harped about. Maybe they'll earn more and become bigger names than Manny.

A fight outside the US (Valero can not get a license in the USA) would be worth more than 5 M USD? I really doubt that. But hey, if you can raise the difference... say a fight with Valero will generate a 1 M USD paycheck for Pacman, and you can find someone who will guarantee the other 4 M USD, then I suppose that fight can happen.

But hey, just like you I'd like to see the fight happen. And soon! Just line 'em up boys... mahina kalaban... one at a time lang... Pacman will chomp your Valero soon enough... I guarantee that!

Well the fight is being scheduled in Macau to open the new Wynn Hotel and Casino. Baka si Wynn ang mag foot ng balance. Even if they can come up with the balance to make the $ 5M, the bigger loss is from the PPV where Pacquiao gets all the his shares without the cuts.

A fight with Valero, money wise will be in a year or two, probably in Pacquiao's last two fights. Money would be better, Valero would have proven himself more and probably would have faced better named opposition by then to drum up a high stakes top dollar showdown between the present and the future. From a sport stand point, the bigger risk is for Valero by fighting Pacquiao now. If he loses and he loses big and his weaknesses exposed or much worse damaged, that could be the end of his short lived career. Pacquaio, win or lose, will already have his place in the sun and probably 3-4 more mega buck fights. Word to the young: Valero should get better, get more experienced, bid his time, wait for Pacquaio to get older and then fight him while he still has a name and the odds about even.

How about Chris John? 38-0-20KOs? May laban ba 'to?

I have mentioned in a previous post that Chris John can be a good fight for Pacquiao for a number of reasons. One, he seems pretty good with the kind of record he has (actually, 38-0-1 with 20 K.O.'s). Second he has a legitimate belt (WBA) which can give the fight some weight. The only problem is John doesn't fight outside of Indonesia (practically, except for two fights in japan and Australia) and Pacquaio will not travel to Java just to get robbed. John's record may be a little suspect as he only fights in home turf but he did beat Juan Miguel Marquez (UD) in a close but relatively intrigue free fight in Indonesia for the WBA title.

But the fight has a chance for the right compelling reasons. One, it will afford Pacquiao to get a third legitimate belt from a recognized boxing body at featherweight. Although it will be a step down, I don't think it will be a problem for him. Will John risk losing his belt? He just might for the right money. He hasn't seen a a fight upwards of $ 100k in his life and it will be easy to lure him to Manila for a title fight for not too much money to start with (Oscar Larrios as an ex-champ was paid $ 400k for the last Manila tune-up fight). Which then makes it easier for local promoters to stage the fight where everybody makes decent money, Pacquiao takes home $1M-2M for the fight and takes home a belt if he is successful. John may not be too detached from his title even if he loses his crown as Pacquiao will expectedly relinquish and go after the titles held by Barrera in a sure future fight. John will then face off with the next ranked challenger for his same belt (I'm hoping it's Jimrex Jaca as Juan Marquez has already indicated that he is moving up in weight).

The only problem I see for Pacquiao is that he may find John's style a little bit perplexing at the start. John came from a martial arts background (probably Penchak Silat) and has an unorthodox style that has worked for him. H e doesn't have a hard punch even at featherweight as evidenced by his low KO record which will allow Pacquaio to plow in to get off his heavy bombs. But John will not be an easy pushover. He does have a good record and anybody who has defeated Juan Miguel Marquez must be really good, be really lucky or both and should be taken with all seriousness.

You mean, nung dumating lang si Pacquiao saka tayo nagkaroon ng reason to be proud as Filipinos? Kawawa naman pala tayo sobra. Kung wala pala tayong boxing hero, parang wala tayong ginagawa kundi matulog at kumain. Wow.

Tsk tsk tsk.

HELLO!!!! I did not say that it was when PACMAN arrived that Filipino's got a reason to be proud off... I know more than that dude, believe me... I was just asking all of you your respective and intelligent opinions for discussions sake .. at kung maalam ka e may mapulot kami... hindi yung ganyang comment..we can't pick up any sense from that...

The way we respond reflects the kind of mentality and personality we have....
