Call Center Side Effects

what's there to envy? hmm....

we have a rather easy job that pays well

we are able to help customers

we can buy our own stuff

we can party anytime we want

we get to surf the net

we're always in an airconditioned environment

we don't feel "useless"

we earn as much as or more than a normal breadwinner

"girls" ....can't get any better than this? :upside:

 

*With the current state of our economy...we're just thankful that us "human answering machines" have a good paying moral job.

 

also i think you've been misinformed, not everyone who works in a call center takes calls. research on the meaning of this.......

*team leader

*I.D coordinator

*facilities manager

*quality evaluator/assurance

*I.T

*etc.........

 

I'm in my early 20's and i can buy whatever I want, save up for those expensive stuffs & what's my position? I'm just a level 2 product specialist who gets around 4 calls maximum in 1 day & gets to surf the internet 80% of my stay in the office............ and what is my target now? to be like nine"

 

mind me asking? what do you do for a living? <_<

i hope u'll feel the same way a couple years from now when some MIT genius gets to invent a computer program which can answer calls just what ur doin right now.

i think the benefits, rewards or perks of this industry apply only to "agents" or people directly related to the business outsourcing process (ops mgrs, facilities mgrs, TLs, Program managers etc)....

 

what about the support groups? accounting & finance, HR, procurement people, administration, logistics?

 

do the people in these departments in a call center get the same compensation as you guys get? i doubt it.... :D

 

eg...accountants in an mfg MNC average 25-40 K...procurement people in semicon get 35K-60 K...etc, HR assistants in headhunters get better than their industry counterparts...

kidyot - relax my friend :) the only thing that matters is that regardless of the industry we're in proffesionalism and attitude towards work is the key recipe for growth ;)

true. in operations for example, they can give away as much as US$200 bonus to TL's who reach a certain quota.. another is sales managers (usually outbound) they have perks that start from getting a monthly bonus of US$1000 to being given a brandnew vehicle of choice..

anyways, what's there to envy?...Absolutely nothing, if you love your job then you need not be jealous with call center agents because they're being paid a lot just for answering the phone.

 

oh and by the way call center agents are not the highest paid professionals, so relax lang coolestboy :D

i've been sort of following this thread just because it's interesting.

 

i don't see anything wrong with being happy, proud, and contented with one's chosen job or profession. so to all you callboys and call girls out there, keep on track, and may things get even better for you. :cool:

 

at least some of you seem to have learned early on one of the important rules in finding a job: get the job that pays the most for the least amount of work

 

the importance of job satisfaction will come later, (alam ko kasi baka may kumontra...heheheheh) but keep in mind that high compensation and job satisfaction are not necessarily mutually exclusive.

"Get the job that pays the most for the least amount of work!" hehehe... with my current work.. i can wear my home clothes, play online at work, i don't have a time-in/out,i have a modest lifestyle, pay cash with my purchases...well im not bound to the credit card.. hehehe.. and most of all.. I have the authority to call the shots in the office.. well... its just pure luck I guess..

theres nothing to envy about really...

 

if you plan your career in the way you want it to...then thats it...

if your happy with what industry you are and the pay is "well then enough" then its ok...

 

people have needs of self actualization on top of the basic money & things needs...

 

if you are contented with clerical work, with low pay..then its time to reinvent yourself to move up the ladder

 

if you think high pay with less work is enough...the options are there, shift careers, study, look at other "lucrative" jobs outside your present industry

 

if you want higher pay with number crunching, negotiations, and sheer talent and hard work....use your skills, talent, training and luck..hehehe

 

it is really up to you...it really depends on the skill set you possess and your goal (money? perks? position? recognition? job security?)

 

all jobs has its trade-offs...being in a call center does have great financial rewards...but it has its share of negatives in other areas....

just my own 2 cents...

i work 4 a call center, been working my ass off in this damned office for the past 2 years...

 

i wouldn't call my job perfect, in fact there are days that i would hate it, that i have to virtually drag myself out of my room to go to work...

it's not an enviable job, mind you...

it's a bit rewarding though...

its actually those in the graphics and web design industry that i actually envy, or those in the creatives in the advertising business that i'd like...

 

where i work, in this line of work, would probably be one of the least rewarding offices...

yet i have lasted for two years simply because i love the people i work with, and i love where im working at...

 

unlike the ones from inbound cc's, i work in an outbound cc, and probably 60-70% of the people we call hate our guts...

imagine being cursed at at least five times a night...

you dont get that at a normal day job unless your boss is a total assh*le...

still, someones got to do this job...

 

not because were cca's mean we rack up pogi points...

when i started this job, i was actually thinking it was a lowly job, kc nakakabobo b...

pogi points, i think, is directly proportional to how much money you have...

society, in my opinion, measures a person's value by how much money he or she makes, first and foremost...

 

for those who hate the work we do, youve your own reasons and i respect your points of view...

 

i dont actually see myself getting growing old in this cc business, i mean i just wanna save up and set up my own business sumtym...

 

and as for MIT people or some nihonjin creating a machine that can answers people's concerns and for that matter sell products through the phone, i doubt they'll be able to do that in the near future...

they have to first duplicate human emotions in a machine, or at least teach computers the basics of human semantics...
