You are right but do they consider the opinion of the majority of their member? I'm sure more than half don't follow their way of natural contraceptives. Will the RCCC respects if they conduct a survey on those issues contradicting govt. policies. RCC are slow in having changes in their beliefs but in time they will sooner or later except maybe for the death penalty.

I think you are assuming that the RCC is a democracy. It's not. It is actually authoritarian in nature. Why do you think they call teachings of the Church "doctrine"? Unlike governments, the authority of the Church does not come from the people (below), but from God (above) - or so the faithful believe. The Church does not reflect the will of the people, but the will of God - again, as the faithful would believe. The role of the clergy as Shepherd is not to bend to the will of the people, but to guide them towards what they perceive to be the will of God.

Boom panis sila dun.

  2. Thank you PRRD for defying the CBCP and using your immense political capital to push Congress to pass the RH Law.

ever heard of a famous term before na "noynoying"??

The term was largely used early in the term of PNoy but lost traction by the middle of his term. By the end of his term, he had an approval rating higher than previous outgoing Presidents and the economic growth of the country on the rise.

Again, it's all a matter of leadership style. PNoy aims before he shoots, while Du30 shoots from the hip. Both have pros and cons. The first is slow but more accurate, or quick with the higher likelihood of missing the mark.

I think you might be referring to DA, and not DAR...

  5. Anyway, di ba pag-uusapan dito yung myths and speculations on the size of the Marcos coffin? Even before there were speculations that the corpse displayed in Ilocos is just a replica and that FM had already been buried elsewhere long before. Then comes the secret burial, it was reported that while the secret burial was taking place, the supposed corpse in Ilocos was still there. Later on a representative of the Marcos family explained that the "corpse" in Ilocos was just a wax replica to serve as a decoy for purposes of the secret burial. Now, the observation is that the coffin appears to be too small to hold the preserved body of a grown man. If indeed the coffin holds the remains of FM, then the speculations that the preserved "corpse" in Ilocos was just a replica all along and all that could fit in the coffin are the bones of an already buried Marcos. Another theory is that the coffin does not contain the remains of FM at all and that it is just a symbolic gesture of his burial in the LNMB. So the new fact or myth question is whether FM is really buried in the LMNB.

Russia to buy $2.5B in PH agri produce

Russia committed to buy up to a staggering $2.5 billion worth of Philippine fruit, grains or vegetables during last Saturday’s bilateral discussions between President Duterte and Vladimir Putin, officials said on Sunday.

Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez said the Russian side agreed “immediately” to a proposal for the importation of Philippine fruit and other agricultural products in the next 12 months.

This dwarfs the $80 million worth of exports the Philippines currently ships to Russia every year, he said.

“We were talking of what they could buy from us, especially agricultural products, but nothing was specified. But I understand we supply them with a huge quantity of bananas… and mangoes. With these kinds of discussions, these present more trading opportunities between us,” Lopez said.

Lopez said Putin also offered to help the Philippines through investments in energy and infrastructure.

Lopez said the Philippine leader’s bilateral discussion with Xi also bore plenty of fruit for the country.

“I took note of a report that a Chinese delegation recently closed a transaction for $100 million worth of fruit from the Philippines, primarily bananas. That involves 100,000 tons only for one transaction,” he said.

He said that was a huge deal considering the Philippines shipped about 700,000 tons of bananas to China every year.

I hope these deals do materialize. For a time China practically closed its market to Philippine bananas because as a soft retaliation in the West Philippine Sea dispute. Bananas exported to China were destroyed by Chinese authorities because they supposedly "did not meet quality standards". I just came from a banana producing province yesterday and my counterparts there told me the local producers are working to increase production considering China opened its market again to the Philippines.

And I hope Russia's commitment for the $2.5 billion worth of produce is not a limited offer for the next 12 months only. I'm not sure if the Philippine producers can increase production by 3000% in the next 12 months to meet the $2.5 billion threshold from a current export level of $80 million.

  7. What fact are you talking about? The fact is that Marcos has never been convicted of anything. Yes, it matters where it went. I asked you that a couple of months back, puro articles yung sagot mo sa akin but I quoted an excerpt from an article that you showed. Magbackread ka.

To ask where it went is futile. The recovered amounts go to the National Treasury where it is pooled with all other government funds, which is thereafter appropriated by Congress through the General Appropriations Act. To ask where it went is like asking what project specifically did my income tax fund.

The more relevant question is from who and how the amounts were recovered. Conviction is a legal term specifically reserved for criminal cases. The term is not used in civil cases. For example, a civil case for damages is filed against me and the court found for the plaintiff. The court essentially ruled that I in fact caused the damage but I am not "convicted" of anything. The same applies to administrative cases. Conviction in a criminal case is not the sole manner by which the court determines whether a person did or did not do what others say he/she did or did not do.

to my no.1 fan dito sa MTC, si Pnoy mo 6 years

sigurado ka NO CHANGE at all?

deny pa more (or i say bulag na haters pa more!)

True, too early to arrive at conclusions. Both for the good and bad news.

I've seen some of those projects even before this administration.

In terms of funding, mas maluwag sa pera itong bagong administrasyon. For one, willing sila to take out loans mula sa China. They were willing to increase budget deficit to roll out more projects. Ibig sabihin lang nun, mas maraming project na di kayang pondohan from government revenues kaya susuportahan through borrowing. I can see the overwhelming political will na maglabas ng project ang gobyerno para makatulong sa tao, pero the strategy is partly short-sighted and its implications will be felt beyond the term of this administration.

Both have pros and cons. By hook or by crook, results must be achieved.

Ang banner accomplishment ni Du30 is the war on drugs. In short, we are winning the war on drugs. Pero the question is at what cost? A possible analogy sa infrastructure: the goal is magkaroon ng tren sa isang lugar. Is this a win? :P

  9. Although I agree with carpooling, one of the cons of this is your safety. I mean what if one of your passengers is a holdupper?

Siguro to be safe dapat through credit card payments lang pag carpooling para we can rely at least on the due diligence of banks in ascertaining the identities of the cardholders. In California ang incentive to carpool is may dedicated lane for carpool cars (i.e. with more than 2 passengers yata). Wala naman similar incentive sa Pilipinas. Yung come on lang nitong Uber siguro eh shared yung cost ng transpo.

  10. I really don't get it why would EJK affect foreign businessmen in investing in our country. Unless they plan to make a shabu lab. The admin plans to minimize red tape and speed up all the processing of govt. permits which foreign ivestors will benefits the most.

They will continue to invest as long as they can make money. There are investments in more violent countries like mexico and brazil. Naghost pa nga ng olympics eh.

Investors look at the state of rule of law in a country. They look into the consistency of government policy, and whether the government will adhere to its own laws and policy. Because if they're going to invest a ton of money, they want to feel secure that their investments are safe. Linking the administration to EJK affects investor perception. It tells them the government is willing and able to disregard its own laws with impunity. The media coverage on De5 leaves the impression that the administration is ready to stomp out anyone who questions how the war on drugs is conducted.

But the EJK issue has spilled over to other matters as well that are more relevant to investors. It is because other nations and international organizations have called out Du30 on the EJK that he is now bad mouthing them and has threatened to cut off ties. This doesn't sit well with investors because the US and some EU countries are big trading partners of the Philippines. When a country wants to sanction or send a message to another, the first salvo is usually economic sanctions. Just by imposing trade restrictions can easily hurt a country's economy. Luckily the US is in the middle of an election season so they're not going to take any drastic action any time soon as there are a good number of Filipinos living in the US. It's really Du30's unnecessary public statements that are hurting the country. I've faced foreign investment analysts who asked me point blank how they should interpret the conflicting statements of the President and members of his cabinet. And take it from me, you wouldn't want to have to answer that question.

  11.

I'm sure that survey is done and verified for release July pa bakit ngayon lang nilabas? What's the point of fear if it may not be applicable now.

I know that you can't misinterpret the headline but you know the answer if the lower class read it lalo na kung ganyan din ang headline sa tabloid.

So again, ang sinasabi ba dito eh in cahoots with the "yellow army" ang SWS?

Madali i-spin na it's a rising public concern that needs to be addressed immediately and decisively, and that is whtat the government is doing now. Tapos. No need for politically incorrect references to the nazis and the holocaust.

  12.

Look at the header of the report:

Fear of burglary, unsafe streets, drug addicts rise: survey

SWS measures perception. Kaya nga "Fear of". Hindi simply "burglary, drug addicts rise" which PNP data has based on reported crimes, not through surveys. In short, magkaiba ang sinusukat ng SWS data sa PNP data, although you can use empirical research methods to draw a correlation between the two sets of data.

I don't know about the others, but I wasn't misled to thinking anything after reading the header because my instinct is to read the details of the article to get information. The header in itself is not false, but it doesn't present a complete picture either - as do most headers. You can only fit so much information in one line. It's just a line that's supposed to catch your attention so you will read the article.

So I take it the SWS is presumed to be part of, or is in partnership with, the "yellow media"?

Seriously?

SWS data released on Monday, reported by media outfits on Tuesday. Survey data taken before new President holds office, which actually serves as a good baseline. If SWS conducts a similar survey afterwards, they can compare data from right before DU30 held office with data from his first few months in office.

Sensationalized headlines did not suddenly appear when DU30 took office in Malacanang. Dati pa ginagamit ng media yan to catch people's attention so that they will read the article. Mind you, sensationalized doesn't necessarily mean false. Usual exaggerations in trade ang tawag dyan. At ayon sa Article 1340 ng Civil Code, "The usual exagerrations in trade, where the other party had the opportunity to know the facts, are not in themselves fraudulent." And let's face it, the media is a business. Those media companies don't do what they do for "public service", even if that's what they try to sell to you.

Ang moral of the story: wag puro headline ang basahin.

  14. You are missing the point. Again, there is no proof that there is tacit approval for Duterte. It is easy to blame him but hard to prove. Aquino was the CIC of the PNP and the AFP. He could have easily ordered both institutions to go after drug lords and the like. Why did it proliferate exponentially? Because he either allowed it or he ignored it.

My point is Duterte has no control over the EJK while Aquino has control over the PNP and AFP, being the CIC and he could have ordered these institutions to go hard at drug personalities.

Can we agree that drug-related killings also proliferated exponentially the last few months since Digong won the presidency? Following the argument that exponential proliferation is the result of the President either allowing or ignoring something, then could the same not also be said of Digong? Digong is now the CIC of the PNP and the AFP, so he is now in control of those institutions and could also easily order both institutions to go after the perpetrators of EJK, but there is no success on that matter thus far. What's sauce for the goose should also be sauce for the gander.

It's hard to absolve Digong of the recent spate of killings because he has been associated with that kind of street justice ever since he was mayor of Davao. The Davao Death Squad is known to all and in his 20 years as mayor, the DDS was ever present. In those 20 years, can we not say that he either allowed it or ignored it as well? So it's kind of hard to dissociate that policy from Digong, especially when that is what he anchored his electoral campaign on.

So for me, the bottom line is EJK is wrong - doesn't matter who does it and to whom it is done. But the present strategy of the new leadership in the drug war is not to suppress this EJK - success is measured by how many drug pushers and killers are eliminated anyway. And that that's just the present reality now. Personally I don't mind drug pushers and killers dropping dead day by day, but what concerns me is the kind of culture that it creates. Especially the culture of impunity. It just trades one evil for another. Other people may not wish to worry about it, but I do.

Kahit sino pa Presidente gumawa nyan eh I will call it out.

  16. I think your analogy is disproportionate to the issue we are discussing.

Your premise is that the father has been raping the children. This is a heinous crime. Definitely, the neighbors must respond and stop the crime from continuing. But it's not really the case.

A better analogy is the father slapping the child's behind for being unruly. In this case, the neighbor must weigh if it would be appropriate for him to impose his personal values on his neighbor. After all, how the father discipline his children is his prerogative.

This is what I think as a more accurate analogy between the Philippine government & the US. The Philippine Government is not into EJK or HRV as a matter of policy in its fight against drugs. How Philippines conduct its drug campaign is an internal matter that the US has no business meddling with. So the US (the neighbor) should be careful on how to raise its concerns about EJK/HRV with the Philippines.

I may be taking things out of context (common among Filipinos these days, apparently), but did you just imply that EJK is not a heinous crime? And here I thought EJK was essentially no different from murder. My bad.

Different personal values. Hmmm. Let's see, the Philippines signed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) - was one of the original signatories even, if I recall correctly. It has signed various human rights treaties and conventions as well, and holds itself out as a country that respects human rights. Our own Constitution provides for human rights. Even Filipinos in the Philippines are calling out the government on the spate of killings in the "drug war". So, I'm really not sure about the different values thing. Again, could be taking things out of context.

Whether the Philippine government is into EJK as a matter of policy in the drug war is the exactly the center of the controversy. Even as it claims that it has nothing to do with killings, the rhetoric of the government and the coincidence(?) of the rising death toll of drug-related deaths is what alarms Filipinos and other countries alike.

What the Philippines does within its territory is certainly its business. But calling out other countries on what they're doing is also the business of the community of nations. Free speech after all, is a common value between the Philippines, US, and other countries that claim to be a democracy. Right? Even events within a country can be considered a "threat to international peace and security" by the UN Security Council, which it can take collective action on - beyond issuing statements. And before anybody jumps the gun, I'm not saying the Philippine war on drugs is a threat to international peace and security. Just saying claiming that something is "purely internal" to a state does not always hold true under the present regime of international relations.

As for the US specifically, like I said, it is not a country that has no ties with the Philippines. The US government channels funds to the Philippines and provides military support and equipment. So if the Philippine government is involved in human rights violations and the US nonetheless continues to support the Philippine government without question, then it can be called out by other countries as supporting the violations. Diplomacy and international relations is an intricate dance and a game of pretense. Why do you think the Philippine government had to issue an "apology" for cursing Obama even when it claims that the President didn't curse Obama (because Americans, just like the Filipino people, apparently have a penchant for taking words out of context)? If we think the US is already meddling with Philippine policy just by issuing a statement on EJK, well we ain't seen nothing yet.

  17. Mali ang pagmumura. directly or indirectly towards a person. Specially when talking about other country with different backgrounds or culture. Nonetheless, it is not the cursing that is the real issue. It is those outsiders who meddles with our sovereignty.

I will use the same analogy. This time, yung amain ay nagngangalang Pilipinas.

We live in a "global village" ika nga.

  18. Among the biggest areas Duterte needs to improve on is foreign diplomacy. Foreign Service Officers and career diplomats spend years of training to learn the ways of diplomacy - to be politically correct in all statements made to their foreign counterparts, and to at the very least not to offend in making statements. The high politics of international relations means very little to the Filipino masses, but it is something that any government cannot take for granted.

Anyone heard of the Millenium Challenge Account? It's US foreign aid in developing countries channeled through a corporate vehicle. The Philippines is among the recipient countries and in the last 5 years, the US channeled $434 million dollars in foreign aid to the Philippines through this corporate vehicle alone. This money funded the reconstruction and rehabilitation of 220 kms of road in Samar province, and funded community-driven projects in communities with high poverty incidence. Another 5 year contract is in the works and is projected to be signed in 2017. The US suddenly deciding not to renew the contract and withdraw all foreign aid to the Philippines is only one of the instruments of foreign policy that it can use if the Philippines is undiplomatic. Tighter immigration policies against Filipinos is another.

Since we love talking about Yolanda, the US gave a total of $90 million dollars in foreign aid to the Philippines. China gave a total of $15 million, and that's only after it received so much flak for initially giving only $100,000 when all other countries (even as far as Europe) gave so much more. The US under Obama donates ships to the Philippine navy to boost the country's maritime capabilities, ostensibly against China - our neighborhood bully. "US imperialism" is the boogeyman of the communists and the left.
