  1. choices kind of wide and may be too hard to compare ... for example xpressmusic 5800 maybe the top of the line now and they also have lower end like the 5000. Same as with the N and E series.

But in general, these series caters to a selective market ...

the xpressmusic is nokia's music phone and supposedly have the best sound quality. E for business use speacially if one is into heavy emailing. the N series I guess is their top of the line ... business w/ pleasure

  2. MC being sidelined pave the way for Jayjay to strut his wares. Tremendous season for him, my top mvp candidate as well for this season.

mukhang si JJ na nga ang MVP this year ... ang closest rival in terms of stats ata is Arwind Santos (correct me if I'm wrong) but I guess JJ wining the BPC for this conference will have a great impact. Also, hindi nakapasok team ni Arwind sa finals these past 2 conferences

  3. mas mura ba sa mismong nokia center o mas mura pa rin sa mga tiangge ng G'hills?

In general, mas mura sa tiangge as compared to nokia center. Some units sold while brand new may or may not include a nokia warranty. Ofcourse mas mataas konti ang price nun may nokia warranty.

Others simply prefer to but the phone at the Nokia Center for their own peace of mind so ok lang they pay premium.

  4. according to nokia centers, these models have differences. that's why the firmware upgrade for the blue came before the red, and the black/gray is still not available (daw)

would appreciate to know what the main difference would be ... Am in the process of getting one. I don't like to appearance of the blue unit. My choices boils down to the red or black unit.

  5. Just wondering ... the N5800 comes in 3 colors namely: black, red and blue. is there any major difference between the 3 aside from the physical appearance?

Would there be a difference in the display (ie. if red then your lcd background is also red, if black then also black)?

  6. The $99 price tag comes with an AT & T Plan :D

The Globe iPhone 3G is around 35-40K....it could go as low as 25 to 30K...but not 5K (for prepaid)

I guess the current Iphones may get cheaper and retail in the P20K ++ range. The new version would probably retail at the same price range of thirties something thousand.

Below is a writeup regarding the pricing of this new model ...

    Here’s the iPhone 3G breakdown on AT&T:

iPhone 3G will be available for $199 for the 8GB model and $299 for the 16GB model. These prices require two-year contracts and are available to the following customers:

iPhone customers who purchased before July 11

Customers activating a new line with AT&T

Current AT&T customers who are eligible, at the time of purchase, for an upgrade discount

Existing AT&T customers who are not currently eligible for an upgrade discount can purchase iPhone 3G for $399 for the 8GB model or $499 for the 16GB model. Both options require a new two-year service agreement.

    Here’s the interesting part… “ In the future, AT&T will offer a no-contract-required option for $599 (8GB) or $699 (16GB).”

  7. I just read over the net, Apple lowers the price of iphone 3g 8gig is down to $99. May new models na.

I have also hear this news on cnbc news. The price of the new models will be 50% lower ... retails at $199-$299 depending on the GB. The older models now sells at $99 supposedly.

My guess is that the price quoted here is the "subsidized" price ... meaning you have to get a plan to be able to avail of the said price. Hard to imagine that you can get an orig iphone (even the old model) at a price that is equivalent to the China iphone immitations.

  8. Some go to trust departments or investment houses to invest in GS or Commercial Paper. Some invest in Hongkong/Singapore/Malaysia.

I guess the question pertains to what particular asset class to place/invest your money which would be able to provide "security" considering the global crisis.

With that I agree that GS or ROPs (for $ funds) would be a good secured investment as they have the sovereign guarantee. Commercial Papers ... you have the counterparty risk there ... meaning what if the company goes puff? Its like the risk you take by depositing your money in banks but unfortunately PDIC covers only up to P500K.

Same goes in investing in the countries you mentioned ... what is inherent is again looking at the asset class being offered when you invest in these countries.

  10. anyone knows where would be the repair center for NIKE WATCHES? Actually need to change the strap lang of my Triax Chrono (analog) ... would appreciate a PM from you guys. thanks

  11. same engine with jazz, pero mas roomy kc sedan sya, mas malaki nga lang ung gasoline cosumption, 5.7 ltr/100km un jazz, e2 6.7ltr/100km

based on the post above if 5.7 ltr/100km that's roughtly 14-15 km/ltr ... just want to clarify if this is based on purely city driving or a combination of highway+city driving.

  12. depends on your needs imho.

    Civic

    a. do you need a bigger space?

    b. do you need a powerful engine?

    c. will it be occassionally used for out of town trips for four to five people?

    or

    City

    a. would it be ok with you to drive in a subcompact?

    b. do you prefer a fuel efficient car

    c. will it be used for city driving only?

Now this is exactly my predicament ... coz my needs are as follows:

    Civic

    a. do you need a bigger space? YES (+)

    b. do you need a powerful engine? Generally NO (-)

    c. will it be occassionally used for out of town trips for four to five people? YES (+)

    or

    City

    a. would it be ok with you to drive in a subcompact? NO (-)

    b. do you prefer a fuel efficient car Definitely YES (+)

    c. will it be used for city driving only? MOst of the time YES (+)

    Positive Score: 2 Civic - 2 city

To sum it up, my requirement are as follows:

    1. a car that has space that could sit 4-5 comfortably

    2. this will be predominantly use for city driving but with occational out of town trips (laguna, tagaytay, clark, subic)

    3. I definitely want a FUEL EFFICIENT CAR

  13. Guys please help me decide... would it be the CIVC 1.8V or the new top of the line CITY?

My budget is around P800K and these 2 fits my budget. Look-wise mukhang attractive ang CITY + its paddle shify feature. However, the Civic has a bigger engine, design is not bad either given its advanced digital console.

  14. those are brand new prices you've listed. if you were to sell your used watch, you'd probably still be able to get what you paid for it. so in essence, parang nilagay mo lang ang pera mo sa aparador for 9 yrs. (which is a poor way to invest).

unless the watch in question is really rare, it would probably be asking too much for it to be an investment piece. rather, why not just enjoy it for what it is- a good instrument for telling time that makes you proud wearing it.

I agree with you on some of your observation that the price i quoted above are brand new price. I am not really sure how much the "resale value' of this will be at present but taking your word for it, I would probably get what I paid for (or maybe in my humble opinion a little bit higher). Generally, buyers of Rolex watch buy the watch because they can afford it and probably don't have the intent of selling it in the long run. Most if not all would just pass them down from one generation to another.

Having said that, I just want to comment on your statement being a "poor way to invest" ... which I beg to disagree. I think you're being too technical about it ... equating it via P+I.

Technically speaking in making an investment what you hope for is to be able to receive or get back the following ... principal + interest (or capital appreciation in some cases). As we all know, watches in general depreciates in value once you've purchased it. A swatch watch for example that is priced P10K won't fetch that value 10-20 years down the line don't you think? In the case of the Rolex, since down the line you're still able to get what you paid for, this satisfy the first qualification of a good investment which is to get back your principal. As for the interest ...well interest is defined probably as the cost for using the asset (CASH/Princiapal). In short its the opportunity cost that your money would have earned if you did not use it to purchase a ROLEX (ie anywhere from 1%-5% p.a. assuming its in time deposit). However, interest or cost of using the asset can also be equated for the time that you've enjoyed when you wear that piece of watch. Definitely, there should also be a "value" equated for using your ROLEX ... just like for example in a car rental or simply a custume rental fee. Sounds fair don't you think?

  15. sa mga experts sa watch. Nag aapreciate ba value ng rolex in time or nagdedepreciate? I am planning to buy one kasi for my wife? Or may ibang watches pa na maganda na nagaapreciate ang value in time. thanks in advance sa replies.

rolex appreciates over time ... for example in 2000 i got a rolex explorer 2 for P125K i think its over 200 grand now.

  16. can someone please educate me... how in the heck do they know if a remittance is from an OFW or from someone who migrated permanently to another country. when we used to send money to my lola nobody asked if we were immigrants or on a working visa. and now that my aunts and uncles send money to my cousins nowhere there is it indicated if it came from a OFW or emmigrant. also, in the school i used to teach in, every other student was being put through by a relative who migrated to another country and their tutuion is paid for when their relative comes back as balikbayan. does that count? it's an honest question and i'm clueless.

Incoming $ to the Philippines per se is being tracked by the BSP ... it could be direct or indirect portfolio investments or via Remittances from abroad. I don't think there is such specific monitoring for "OFW Remittance". The item Remittances from abroad gnerally would include the money sent by Filipino overseas through "duly documented channels" such as Banks &/or remittance companies. This figure does not include those sent through the "underground" (ie. money sent to a relative through someone who will be home for a vacation).

Remittance from abroad is often associated with OFW Remittance since bulk of it are from OFWs working abroad rather than Immigrants. On the other hand , since the law now allows dual citizenship for Filipino Immigrants, then technically they could probrobly be still considered "OFW" since they are acknowledged as Filipinos that works abroad and remits the money back home (Philippines) despite their visa status is not on working visa but rather an Immigrant.

  17. With due respect to peithe, Barangay have no jurisdiction over employer employee controversy. Go to DOLE and ask for help and assistance.

With due respect also... I guess I've made it clear that going to the baranggay is just to find an amicable settlement. Again, I've indicated that if the Baranggay did not give justice then go to DOLE for arbitration.

Why Baranggay first? Well this is a you said me said kinda thing. There was no doumentation of the hiring as well as of the salary to be given. The employer being a relative may easily deny any arrangement made pertaining to employment.

As to the comment of the baranggay ... wherein they computed for the income and asked you whether kaya kayang magpasweldo. Well, obligation to pay salary of a hired employee is not dependent whether the firm earns or is actually loosing money.

Since documentation of your employment is not present ... you probably need witness to strengthen you case as proof you're indeed "employed" (this is in the absence of an employment contract). Going to DOLE for arbitration is your hope
