  1. I'm not saying that the players we have now are better than the Chinese. What I'm saying is Coach T chose the best amateur talents we have that are available. Let's just wait and see what they can do coz it seems to me you're judging them yet they haven't competed in a tournament yet for us to gauge if they're really lemons. This is the same team that clobbered Powerade by 30 plus points under amateur rules. Let's just wait and see when they play in a tournament like the Asian Games and judge them from there. Their PBA sojourn doesn't really count since it is played under pro rules while Smart-Gilas is trained for FIBA rules. By the way, I like your nick since fave team ko yan. Hehe.

"words of wisdom" coming from a guy that thinks the same way before ... hindi ba ikaw na rin ang nagsabi dapat PBA players ang ipadala sa International tourneys. Bakit bumaliktad ka ata? Dahil ba natalo nila ang Powerade team?

  2. Iverson has slight tear in hamstring, bad start for AI.

Could miss three weeks after an MRI revealed a partial tear in his left hamstring.

"My whole thing is to work as hard as I can to try and get back to 100 percent," Iverson said. "I don't want to try and come back too early and have this thing lingering on throughout the whole season."

But Grizzy fans still hoping for the quick recovery of the once formidable "The Answer"

the "ANSWER" has suddenly become the "QUESTION"

  3. one word..... pera :)

    i must agree

we should have a 19 and under national team

but if im not mistaken we had one under the tutelage of Franz Pumaren

alam ko nangamote sila sa first competition na sinalihan...wonder what happened to that team

also, how much more grassroots can you get with Smart Gilas (aside from what i mentioned above)?

majority of their players are just out of college

they stood out during the NCAA and UAAP....because a lot of them played since high school

granted they have reinforcements coming in

but again, i think SBP is on the right track

rome wasnt built in a day...but every journey starts with a first step

ha ha ha! unahan ko na kayo

    pinag-connect 2 totally unrelated cliches

That was supposed to be a 16 and under team sponsored by NOKIA ... most of its players then under Franz have gotten over the age limit and are now playing in the college league. if am not mistaken, most of La Salle's rookies are from the said team.

This is now being handled by Eric Altamirano

  4. The game last night made me a believer. The next FIBA for qualifying for the Olympics is still 2 years away so the Smart-Gilas team still could polish their game. I guess I underestimated the team. Hehe.

pare, with all my sincerity MY HATS OFF TO YOU for humbly accepting that you underestimate the Gilas Team.

    PEACE!!!

I think this Smart-Gilas team should be a guest team of the PBA every reinforced conference. Furthermore, this team should play exhibition games against topnotch European national teams, preferably Spain, Serbia and Greece. The SBP should send this team to as many international tourneys as possible.

Under the tutolage of Toroman, they could might as well be the new NCC, now I know why Iran is where it is right now..

Yup, he also could very well be the next Ron Jacobs. This early, Smart-Gilas demonstrated cohesion and this can be attributed to the coaching of Coach RT. The SBP should just continue this and reinforced by a few pros, who knows? We may be able to regain our lofty standing in Asian basketball.

While it is with full sincerity that I take my hats off to you for being humble enough to admit you underestimated Gilas ... still it shows how FAST YOU CHANGE COLORS.

Sing ye PRAISE to the GILAS TEAM ... Mr MEGA BALIMBING

  6. Smart-Gilas just annihilated RP-Powerade by 29 points. Crisp passing, tenacious rebounding, collapsing defense especially CJ Giles who made the paint his house by blocking or intimidating whoever treaded it. It may be too early to say but if Smart-Gilas plays this way and goes to international competitions frequently, we may just go to the Olympics in 2012. This team will go places. :thumbsupsmiley:

YUP ... sing your HOSSANAS now Mr ALL PRO PBA TEAM SHOULD REPRESENT THE PHILS IN INTL TOURNAMENT SUPPORTER

  7. some people tend to think the conventional way kasi ... porke na ang mga PBA superstars ang more established players ofcourse logically they are the best but that is for now.

remember that the pba continously turn into these amatures as rookie draftees to infuse "fresh blood" into the pba. in due time these amatures/rookies will become the established superstars.

therefore are we preparing for the battle now or in the future?

ofcourse, in the end the Gilas team may still fail to qualify for the olympics. that is fine as long as we know that we have a battleplan and executed it well. for me what is there to loose anyway, the pba have been trying since 1990 and failed.

  8. You better believe it. 98-69. The outside guns of Smart-Gilas were blazing all-night long plus the crisp passing. What I liked was their hustle and defense. This team could be the new NCC.

hahahahaha .... the strongest backer of the POWERADE TEAM suddenly becomes a believer of the GILAS TEAM.

Isn't it what me and other guys have been saying all along? LETS GIVE THIS TEAM A CHANCE!!!

  9. its all about the reach! pacman can handle mayweather...pacman can withstand punches...i have never seen mayweather take hits on his face..

PACMAN being able to withstand punches specially against BIGGER opponents still has to be proven ... he was never " fully tested" in his battle against Diaz, Dela Hoya and Hatton. These guys hardly landed a solid blow.

I beg to disagree. The best basis for this is Oscar Dela Hoya himself. If you compare Manny's performance over Floyd's performance against Dela Hoya, you'll notice a big difference. It favors Manny by a long-shot.

Not too quick on this one ... YES Floyd and Pacman both had their individual battle with Oscar but under different circumstances. When Floyed faced Dela Joya @ 154 the former have to go up in weight. This Dela Joya then was at his comfort zone in terms of weight so to speak. Floyd who is not really known to be a great knockout artist had difficulty knocking Oscar out and settled for a decision. On the other hand Oscar need to go down to 147 vs Pacman. As we probably all know it is easier to gain weight than to loose weight. As such, this really took its toll on Oscar when he fought Manny. He was just too weak during fight night.

My view here is that at 147 lbs Floyed will be stronger that Pacman but at the same time he could match up with Manny's speed therefore Floyd will have an advantage. There is also the reach advantage making it more difficult for MAnny to come close and hit the target.

Against Juan Marquez the fight was supposed to be at 144 lbs but Floyd weight in at 146 then came in at around 160 ... we saw the results.

  11. Bagay talaga ang moniker na PACMAN kay Manny ....

Just like PACMAN, he just gobble up all $$$$ opportunities that comes in his way. Ads, Movies, fights. Actually ok lang naman kasi opportunity pero un sagadin mo ang oras sa pag train since may tinatapos kang other commitments that's ????????

The guy should realize that boxing should be his priority ... pag na laos siya mawawala na ang mga incidental opportunities like the movies and ads.

  12. You have a point. If Toroman could transform a group of mediocre players into champions, I don't see any reason why our collegiate players who are defiinitely more talented than the Iranians can't be made champions too.

  13. how come they let Artadi off to another team???

I would understand Reavis being traded, but Artadi???

have it ever come across your minds that the trades that happened maybe an orchestrated move by TOP Management to re-align the composition of their 3 Teams.

As such, maybe the Gins coaching staff had no say as it was a top management decision.

  14. The fact remains that with the towering opponents, we also need someone with size. Fortunately or unfortunately, we have players standing 6'9 and irregardless of the talent they would have to be included for consideration in the team for whatever purpose it serves.

Look back 10 years ago, China had Shan Tao. Japan too had this EJ-like 7 footer who only stays in the shaded lane to intimidate. This guy can't even jump but he's there since he's big. Don't forget that both S. Korea had one too.

  15. From what I've seen, Cotto is slower than Manny. He is also hittable as most of the time he is willing to just stand up and engage. So speed will play a great factor as that will counter Cotto's strength. In fact that's no secret since Manny fought bigger guys. The only difference probably is that Cotto is much younger than his previous bigger opponents thus that is one factor he has.

si Rubio clear for draft pero may existing contract pa sa isang Euroleague team. thinking n papayag mabuy-out pero mautak yung mother team nya he was traded to another team ayun wawa lalo yung SOTA. but SOTA still got the rights on Rubio.

Peithe Parker, Yao, Gasol playing sa kanilang National Team still get compensated thru other means like privileges, allowance, incentives not necessary a big sum of money not like wat they got with their mother team in NBA.

I see ... but are these material to them considering the amount they earn in the NBA?

Tingin ko kasi with the amount they earn from their nba contract, they would be well off even not to get those "perks/allowance". In short, bale wala ang mga ito for them to consider playing for their country every summer. Ofcourse, Yao's case is different coz he has an agreement with the gov't coz communist country ang China. Said may not be the case for Dirk, Pau and Tony.

I think I mentioned this before, our PBA superstars get paid from their mother clubs and as we know get allowances for training with the RP team.

If a person is telling the truth, his statement as well as those around him will always be consistent ... otherwise, it will constantly change depending on how people would react in order for them to look good or at least in this case the aggrieved party.

Players like that have "attitude" problems ... even if he has the potential, I'd probably not keep him.
