The 2009 City looks a bit like the current Civic. Highly sloped windshield, high back. It's a little shorter though and the grill is larger. Google it to see what it really looks like.

This is actually a good price for the package.

The better question is...do you really need all that equipment considering this is your first DSLR? Do you really want to spend that much?

For me, the essentials of a good but basic camera system are the following:

1. Camera (duh!--kahit entry model ok na muna)

2. Flash (again, kahit hindi top of the line, as long you can twist and aim the flash head)

3. All-around zoom (most kit lens will cover this range, the Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 included in the package is definitely better than current canon kit lens)

4. Fast lens (kahit el cheapo 50mm f1.8 prime, OK na!)

IMHO, anyone who wants to be a professional photographer needs to learn the basics via 35mm SLR, to all those people who are saying that "FILM CAMERAS" are dead, obsolete, low tech etc. Might as well read this post first.

 

First and foremost when you are using DSLR, there is what i call "Camera intervention" or the DSLR does the settings for you. When using 35mm slr's all settings (apperture, speed, depth of field) are programmed/configured by the photographer. Nothing can replace the thrill and the rush of changing to a fresh roll of film while capturing that crucial shot.

 

Old school SLR's are more durable, sturdy and robust.

Honestly, the only people who insist that you HAVE to learn film first to be a professional photographer are the oldies who resent the younger generation for having it too easy. I started getting interested in photography while in college, and back then it was mostly film as the high-end digital cameras only had 2MP. And I nearly quit because as college kid, i didn't have enough money to buy and develop the many rolls of film needed to learn the craft. If it wasn't for digital, I think I would have given up soon after. Not everyone has the time and money to waste on several bad rolls of pics before they learn what works and what doesn't. On a digital camera, you can instantly see the exposure and cropping, allowing you to immediately see where you went right or wrong. On film, you had to wait several hours to see if you got the picture right, and more often than not, you'd forget the settings you used for that particular shot.

BTW, you forget that most SLRs in the 90s already had an "automatic" mode that decided the settings for you. It was always the person's choice whether or not one would use the "A" setting or switch to manual mode. The same applies to DSLRs.

My first job was working for a magazine publication. Our oldest and best photographer used either a Leica rangefinder or Hasselblad for nearly all his commercial work. But at the end of the day, he'd be using a Canon G3 to take different snap shots. He loved film, and the quality and detail it gave. But he loved photography even more, and with a digital camera he knew that he could take as many pics as he wanted without worrying about wasted shots.

I'm thinking of finally upgrading to a MBP, but not the new unibody one (budget won't stretch that far). Talked to a friend of a friend willing to sell his MBP for a really good price. The only problem is, I'm hesitant to get it because I've read on forums that the nVidia 8600 on the MBP is faulty. How true is this? Is it really something to worry about? The applecare for the MBP I intend to buy ends early next year.

Personally, I'd go for the S5IS since its price is dropping fast. They're probably getting rid of them to make way for new models.

The SX10IS and SX1IS replace the S5IS, and should be sold really soon, if not already. Judging from the pics on flickr, I'd have to say the S5IS produces sharper images than the new SX1IS/SX10IS. I have a feeling they crammed too many megapixels in the newer sensor and not a good enough lens.

The SX100 IS is the little brother to the S5IS. It's supposed to be replaced by the SX110 IS in the next few weeks. Images are nearly the same from what I can tell, but the SX100 IS removes certain features from the S5IS (rotating screen, flash hot shoe, etc.)

Sometimes I don't know if Frank Miller's on something. Don't get me wrong but his All Star Batman and Robin is too way over the top. He's always been a hit and miss writer but I think All Star is just a big effing miss. If the artist wasn't Jim Lee, I don't think I'd be reading this book. Sa All Star line naman, I think I like All Star Superman better (still hate Batman: RIP).

 

Anyway, looking forward to the conclusion of SI in the next two months. I might just start collecting the Avengers too. I'm looking forward to Dark Avengers. I wonder who'll be in the lineup? I'm hoping Cap and Thor will be major players in the new Dark Avengers series.

All-Star Batman seems like a joke. Too bad for Jim Lee, because instead of saving his Wildstorm universe from oblivion, he's busy doing this stupid comic. Whatever happened to the Wildstorm relaunch last 2007? I was so looking forward to the new WildCATS and The Authority.

All-Star Superman on the other hand is really worth every cent. I would buy the Absolute edition of that in a heartbeat.

I'm really hoping for a 2nd concert! Dumaan kasi kami sa Saguijo after the concert, pero naabutan na lang namin last two songs ng impromptu jamming ng newer+original eraserheads (Kris Gorra + Ebe Dancel + the other 3 E-heads). Magaling talaga kumanta si Ebe, pero siyempre iba pa rin boses ni Ely. Lalung-lalo na nung kinanta nila yung "Huling El Bimbo". Daming taong napaluha habang kumakanta nun!

(Sigh).

Kung di kaya mag concert, sana magrecord ulit sila ng bagong versions ng mga kanta nila. Gawa sila ng "Best of" album, pero puro bagong versions ng older songs nila.

Medyo matagal na rin akong di nakakapunta dito...kaya nagulat ako kung bakit ang mahal na ng entrance/cover charge. Dati, P100 to 150 lang. Ngayon, around P200+ na!
