  1. 'Yun naman pala, kung budget lang din meron sila dahil well-financed naman sila ni mvp. It might be a pro league but the level of competition is really not much to be desired.

Kung sa Europe sila magko-compete there will surely be a lot of improvements dahil they would be playing against players that are not only taller and heftier but are also faster than them. Rabeh maging kasing-lupit ni LBJ? Not in this lifetime hehe.

    Gilas to play the ABL?

No offense...pero walang ma-gain ang Gilas jan

in fact, more to lose pa nga eh

mababa pa masyado ang level of competition sa ABL

  2. to all above...

i'd say Las Pinas had been pretty well managed overall

there is definitely room for improvement such as the terrible daily traffic and the multitude of kotongcops

pero syempre madami din naman allegations of corruption and of course land grabbers

btw, dagdag ko lang sa one thing that i find quite "unique" about las pinas

kahit gaano ka-traffic...i cant remember the last time seeing a VIP entourage of wang wang vehicles

which i would think is common place to most other MM cities

i guess maswerte din kami of having counselors and baranggay officials with some semblance of delicadeza

  3. well if you ignore a couple of FACTS

that our mayors come from the same family since 1963

that the only time that this family was unseated were 1986-88 and 1992-95

relatively cleaner and safer compared to other Metro Manila cities

traffic is terrible. well i guess like everywhere else

proud to say...our city probably has the best looking and best maintained tricycle station anywhere :)

overall, fair without embellishments, would be accurate

but if you ask me if i'd still vote for this family next elections

    I'd rather not

I've lived long enough in my part of the city to know that the breakthrough in development happened when sometime in 1992

iba naman muna...kahit 3 years lang

after that, kung sila ulit for another 6...mas okay un!!!

    he he he

  4. Not sure if you guys heard

but Gilas has been invited to compete in Belgium some time during the Christmas week as the representative of Asia

maganda competition dun being that Russia, Brazil and the US will be represented

pero parang development team din ng Russia ang papadala but still..

kahit mangulelat...the experience of playing in this level of competition will be of great benefit to Gilas

they say its due to Toroman's reputation that Gilas got noticed and invited

definitely apektado play dates nila sa PBA

mukhang 10 games lang talaga lalaruin ng Gilas

  5. the pba now is having second thought about the participation of smart gilas now that giles is a doubtful starter with the team.. they are now considering not counting the wins (if ever) of smart gilas. they have come to the realization that the smart gilas team is not as competitive as they thought without giles. giles is definately a double double player, and that translate into more than twenty points, the same number they have to make up for the twin loss they suffer. i say let them play so that we will be able to know the true stte of philippine basketball.

parang nabasa ko din nga yan eh

lito alvarez is leading the charge saying that is was a costly win for his team playing Gilas, having lost their team captain for one year.

parang ganito ang rationale/series of events

Giles cant play, uncertain when he'd be back

Without Giles, PBA teams believe Gilas as a pushover, which probably rightly so

They say that its unfair for their teams to play Gilas when they are weak versus when Giles gets back and they become stronger

    solution: Ban Giles from playing

    and/or

not count the games won (if ever there is going to be any)

    talk about politics in sports

you have a classic one right there

aside from Guiao, meron bang may balak sa kanilang tumakbo next year?!?

  6. They are playing under the rules of the PBA but they were really trained for FIBA rules so they're the ones adjusting. There was a time when teams of the Chinese Basketball League came here for exhibition games against PBA teams. The Presto team of Caidic routed the Liaoning Lions of the CBL with a couple of national players on that team. The games were played under PBA rules so the Chinese teams had a difficult time adjusting. In my opinion, if the recent FIBA was played under the PBA rules, Powerade would have been a lock in the Top 3.

agree ako jan. pagtawag lang ng fouls ibang-iba na

anyways, i still feel Smart Gilas should get 1 more center

    or taga-kuha ng fouls

at least pang-pahinga nila kay Giles

i dont think japeth or rabeh have the ceiling for the the asian scene

would be an interesting starting lineup though

    C - CJ Giles

    PF - rabeh al-hussaini

    SF - Japeth Aguilar

    G - Cris Lutz

    PG - Chris Tiu

  7. Its not fair to Drag the Tejada incident in this issue!

    you must've misinterpreted my post

to clarify, what I'm talking about is the precipitating incidents happening prior to Arboleda's attack on Katigbak

Torion clearly clotheslined Jimmy Alapag with no intention of going after ball but rather Alapag's face

Pennisi was involved why Tejada fell (he in fact received a foul for that) and while Tejada was still face down, he did fall on Tejada's back.

i believe meron replays nyan sa youtube, check it out.

Same with, what do Rudy Distrito, dela Cruz, Gonzalgo have in common?......you "call the shots" :thumbsupsmiley:

exactly my point, these guys are so professional that

ung attitude ng player contra other players on the floor is highly dependent on how the coach would want them to take

sometimes they go over the edge but that doesnt start without the coach giving some form of green light in the first place

besides, kapag alam ng coach that his boy is getting out of control at wala na sa gameplan ang ginagawa

he always have that option to pull the player out, dba?

  8. if indeed we have many talented player why not just draft them?? instead of shopping around the world for half half... better yet come up with a comprehensive sports program that will start which finding talent not for corporate gain but at the grass root level...we are the best in southeast asia, but on the asian level e malabo....

    one word..... pera :)

    i must agree

we should have a 19 and under national team

but if im not mistaken we had one under the tutelage of Franz Pumaren

alam ko nangamote sila sa first competition na sinalihan...wonder what happened to that team

also, how much more grassroots can you get with Smart Gilas (aside from what i mentioned above)?

majority of their players are just out of college

they stood out during the NCAA and UAAP....because a lot of them played since high school

granted they have reinforcements coming in

but again, i think SBP is on the right track

rome wasnt built in a day...but every journey starts with a first step

ha ha ha! unahan ko na kayo

    pinag-connect 2 totally unrelated cliches

  9. to everyone:

    i've read through this thread

so in the end, would you recommend still 5800?

i'm not too sold with the N97...i find the screen awkward when you open the qwerty keypad, pangit ang angle along with tiny space bar; besides parang outrageous ang price

however, looking at screenshots of 5800, parang awkward din naman ung size ng text screen with the qwerty keypad on, meron bang vertical view options ang 5800 with the qwerty keypad activated (ala I-phone)?

am planning to get this with a contract from smart, have you heard anything about them passing on defective units from the middle east?

  10. Would you believe that this is the same formula that then RP Coach Ron Jacobs tried to emulate in the 80's ... naturalizing American collegiate players as Filipinos, to pass basketball technology to Filipino cagers.

But this was not accepted before by the Filipinos ... so he eventually scrapped the idea ... and left 3 ... Dennis Still .. Jeff Moore .. and now NBA shooting coach Chip Engelland ...

Coach Rajko Toroman is doing a fine job of preparing the team for future tournaments .. I do hope that they would emulate the old NCC team that won the Reinfored Conference in 85 ..

Toroman cant do a Ron Jacobs

mainly, FIBA now has explicit rules on naturalized players

isa lang kada team and also, must not have played in any FIBA tournament for another country

so, for Gilas' naturalized palyer, its just gonna be Giles unless somebody decides to replace him with another :)

also, ewan ko kung ano na balita kay Chris Lutz, 6'4" with deadly hands from the 3 point area

unlike Giles, Lutz is a legitimate Filipino-American....Pinay yata nanay nya

i know, na-invite sya to play...ano na kaya nangyari

meron din addition on Greg Slaughter, 6'11" ata ito, playing for the university of the visayas

i think kailangan nila itong si Slaughter, if there's a lack of a better choice for a big man

kahit quality minutes lang ilalaro nito...reliebo for Aguilar and Giles

may 5 fouls din yan na pwedeng gamitin :)

  11. BGK official line up

    Celino Cruz

    Billy Mamaril

    Cyrus Baguio

    Kevin White

    JC Intal

    JJ Helterbrand

    Doug Kramer

    Rico Villanueva

    Willy Wilson

    Eric Menk

    Rich Alvarez

    Mark Caguioa

    Ronald Tubid

    Sunday Salvacion

daming pwedeng maglaro as 1 and 2; interchangeable pa sa 3 positions

sino ung Kevin White? ano position laro nya?

It's a wake up call. Yung mga matatalino ng PBA na nagiisip ng paraan para dumami ulit ang mga manonood dito, this is your answer. A lot of people are willing to watch the games again provided you give them quality basketball.

not to give credit to where credit is not due :)

pero, iba naman talaga na mindset ng PBA players. syempre tipid sila sa effort, since the season starts in less than a week

perhaps OT, malimit ko nang nasabi, the PBA could use some changes:

    • Expand the league. Meaning, add 2 or 4 more teams (not counting guest team from SBP)
    • Do away with the wildcard format and the automatic seedings.
    • Also, the reinforced conference should do away with the height limit for imports or a team may have 2 imports with a maximum combined ceiling of 13 feet

  13. ganda ng laro ng Gilas... kagilas gilas nga... They play as if theyre in the Euro Basket tourney. Ang gaganda ng mga plays. Parang mas maganda pa nga kung sial na lang ang nilaban, pwedeng kahit 6th place man lang sa FIBA Asia.

that is true...if the tournament was today and at this stage of their development

remember they still have 2, well 1.8 years to be better

and they have other additions pa waiting in the wings

I think this Smart-Gilas team should be a guest team of the PBA every reinforced conference. Furthermore, this team should play exhibition games against topnotch European national teams, preferably Spain, Serbia and Greece. The SBP should send this team to as many international tourneys as possible.

    yup.. totally agree

tapos..tangalin height limit for imports sa reinforced conference!
