  1. i think last night's charity game settles the debate on which team is best to send to international tourneys

granted, Powerade didnt have all its players at its disposal (for various reasons) and they obviously they played it loose and light...kasi nga in about 6 days start na ng 35th season

but you have to hand it to a team that is still in development

who is not expected to reach its peak in 2 years

    malaki ang potential...ika nga

    but is it enough?

i'm not sure, but from how they played last night...they're the best chance we've got to get that ticket to 2012

  2. This may not be the last time a PBA team will represent RP in international competition based on what Commissioner Barrios said. Yeng Guaio suggested that we send our best to major tournaments. Barrios will discuss this with the PBA Board and if he gets its consent, Barrios will talk to his predecessor regarding the sending of an all-pro team to major tourneys. I absolutely agree with this.
Which is why I said in my earlier posts that this should be the same team sent to future major tourneys since the players are quite familiar with each other. If ever a player retires or gets old, that's the only time that player should be replaced.

As for the score comparison, I know it wasn't an indication. I was just elated at the fact that Iran beat us only by 10 points while they beat China by 18 points. It was the finals last night so it is expected that China play as if there was no tomorrow. However, Iran proved that it was the better team and it wanted it the title more. Mejo nakakapagpanibago coz I remember Iran used to be our whipping boy in the 90's. Now, they made China their whipping boy.

The amateur players still don't have the maturity to play FIBA level. Asi and Mick should be replaced since they're getting old but the core of this team should be kept. In my opinion, the team should ditch De Ocampo and Thoss and replace them with Seigle and K-Will once the 2 recover.
Well, then just send the Smart-Gilas team but I very much doubt that they could qualify for the Olympics. I'm not being pessimistic. Just being realistic. Unless Toroman could do wonders in 2 years time. A more realistic goal would be the 2016 Olympics but Smart-Gilas has to have an intact line-up until that time and of course naturalize a big man or two.

    Ahem.....

Paalala ko lang ung mga discussions natin 2 months ago.

Also, think of Smart-Gilas last vs Powerade

Insert mo si Rabeh, Greg Slaughter, insert mo si Chris Lutz, insert Jared Dillinger and Gabe Norwood

Give the team maybe 1 reinforced conference with the PBA (open height limit for imports); 2 Jones Cup stints; 2 FIBA Champions cup tournament; add perhaps exhibition games in Serbia

My friends, you have a formidable team right there.

  3. The Beatles.....a very, very, very close second the Rolling Stones

then you have Led Zeppelin, The Who,

you also have Iron Maiden, dagdag mo pa, the short-lived Cream and Yardbirds

    sino ulit choices sa poll?

  4. I believe the SUPREME COURT just came out witha a decision similar to this proposal. Lagot kayo ngayon Manny Villar, Gibo Teodoro, Bayani Fernando, etc! Lol!

    With all frankness

Palagay ko they actually should extend the campaigning period (at least for national posts) for 1 year. Tapos 6 months prior to the election, the Comelec should be able to rule and disqualified nuisance candidates

So meaning, presidential, vice presidential, upper house, and party list representatives.

Para makilatis ng husto ung candidates

We should afford them every opportunity to have their message heard by the greater populace such that come election day, salang-sala na ung candidates at hindi lang name recall lang ang mangyayari

Include also in the law, specific limitations and guidelines kung gaano kalaking airtime ang pwede lang bilhin ng isang candidate and party including how many and how big the print ads they can place

  5. pacman is around 150 or lbs right now. he doesn't need to "work-out" that much to make the weight. kaya siguro 2 months lang ang tinitignan nila. but i haven't heard or seen anything from ariza, 'yung physical trainer/nutritionist nya (?)...

baka kailangan lang inumin ihi ni marquez?!?

  6. There should be a separate counter exclusively for senior citizens when they apply for their discounts. :thumbsupsmiley:

Affected ka ba bro? You dont strike me as that old. You must be taking really good care of yourself! :thumbsupsmiley:

    Joke lang!

BTW, what are you doing on a Saturday night in front of the computer?

  7. malapit na mag open si big brother... ipasok natin lahat ng mga Presidentiables para magkaalaman na ng mas maaga. For sure may bibigay sa mga yan. Im proposing this a second time. D na natin kailangan ng modernization sa comelec... txt na lang.

    ha ha!

not an entirely bad idea! :thumbsupsmiley:

  8. also, as far as I remember/know, Wang played around Marlou as he definitely knew his advantage against him was his quickness. even Bateer Mengke(?) took advantage of Marlou's thin frame by bullying his way inside for points and rebounds.

IMHO, I liked the 2002 team better than that "Centennial Team". tragic though they lost to the eventual gold medalists Korean team. destined to win that tournament I believe were the Koreans...

I remember that game against China in the 1998 Asian Games. Wang didn't run rings around Marlou. He had a hard time against Marlou.

If I recall it correct, Wang played limited minutes in 1998.

Menk Bateer was the dominant center for that team.

  9. Julian69,

I saw the Juddah fight. I believe he could've won that fight -- but he didn't have the power. He was hitting Cotto, but that didn't affect Cotto. Manny has the POWER to make even welterweights notice (remember DLHoya). As for Mosley? He is Cotto-lite. Cotto-like, but not nearly as good enough. Manny is different. I believe Manny WILL WIN... but he needs the 2 months of preparation. Ilang days na lang ba before fight night?

May tulog si Manny kay Cotto...both figuratively and literally

The fight is in November....i believe as of this post, just a little over 60 days :)

  10. so lets just take it for what it really was... he went to the US because it gave him better opportunities to hone his game... unfortunately for him, he was injured most of the time...

I believe quite a number of them were coaches decision.

besides he did not violate any PBA rules... a draftee is allowed not to sign up with the ballclub that drafted him (but he is not to play with any other ball club for the year)... after another year of sitting out, he can reenter the draft again... that's what the PBA rule says about the matter... even in the nba or in any other professional league, no draftee is ever forced to sign up with the team that drafted them...

Makes it sort of complicated having Smart Gilas wanting to join this year's all-Filipino conference

  11. kausap ko si Quinito Henson last friday sa Music 1 sa glorieta. and i had a chance to ask him kung ano ang chance ng smart gilas sa international competition and he told me malaki daw ang potential ng gilas kasi fresh at full energy and i told him meron nga silang energy pero they lack experience at dean said experience can be gain along the way of different intl competition and w/c is for me meron syang point.... one of the reason quinito stressed out to me kaya ng land ng 8th place ang pilipinas is because of fatigue. kasi sabi nya ang haba daw kasi ng season sa atin dito kaya pag pasok nun asai qualifying talaga burnt out na ang team and i told him maybe they lack of passion to play para sa flag and then he paused and he said "MAYBE".....den i asked him about the lineup and he talked about the filam dat is lutz and the fil italian guy forgot his name dean said ok daw tong 2 players na ito....and i asked him about pringle wala daw sya masyado pang alam here, he said giles really fit for the national team he plays he's heart out as per dean.....he said baroca is a good PG dylan is full of promises and last is japeth he include japeth na akala ko di na kasama sa national team pero kasma pa rin na medyo naguluhan ako pero dean stressed out his name talaga so talaga nga kasama sya na w/c is for me the right choice.......si slaughter daw is the future......the future EJ FIEHL no kidding sinabi talga ni quinito yun.... meron syang sinabi na player na part ng national team natin who stand 6'9 din taga south din sya sabi magaling at ok daw......at last na pinagusapan namin is maglalaro ang gilas sa PBA dis coming season and he stressed out na maraming pedeng pahirapan ng pba teams ang gilas den after nila dun dey will be playing sa netherlands......

That isnt exactly saying much about Slaughter. :thumbsupsmiley:

  12. Im just wondering, (as per skitz) hindi kaya plano all along ng Aguilars, Japeth and Peter, for Japeth to play the national team and go the route that Haddadi, Yao and Ginobilli took?

That is, being scouted whilst donning the national colors

And during try outs, ang naka-scout sa kanya was not the NBA but rather Lito Alvarez and Yeng Guiao at sila mismo ang ang nag-udyok for Japeth to turn pro...na wala naman talaga sa plano ng bata?

    Im just wondering...

I've mentioned before in my previous posts

If a player wants to turn pro outside of the PBA, the ticket is with the Smart Gilas team

You get your exposure with ample playing time and also on the world stage

At kung sweswertihin, the biggest stage of them all in 2012

  13. A lot has been said about the playing style of the PBA and how it should change its format, etcetera, etcetera….

Perhaps for a different thread, this may be an unpopular response but the only changes that I think the PBA should adopt are:

    • Expand the league to accommodate more teams; loosen requirements for a local company to be able to field a team to the PBA; foreign brands included
    • Scrap the automatic placement the semifinals; most especially the wildcard. Adopt the playoffs-style format. Double round robin sa All-Filipino and a shorter single round robin kapag reinforced
    • Alam ko a season or two back ginamit na ito pero they reverted back, yung no harm no foul style of referee calling
    • Lastly, kapag reinforced conference, drop na ung rule regarding height limit.

Otherwise, using all-FIBA rules sa PBA? Forget it!

I honestly think mababawasan ang entertainment value ng PBA and would eventually lead to the decline nito. And this is something that you certainly would not want.

Let’s face it, if you are not fans of the PBA, you wouldn’t be this passionate about basketball

  14. Pacquiao cant fight forever...meron shelf life ang athletes and i do think even he recognize this

Pacquiao as product endorser...lets face it, the only reason why there are endorsements today is because is on the top of this game and just as his career in sports wind down...so too will his endorsements...

If he wants to act or sing...that's his prerogative. I think he would do well with comedy....not the slapstick comedy they tried to put onyok in but something ala-robin padilla comedies.

Well here's a suggestion....put Manny Pacquiao as the new host of Wowowee and get rid of that pompous, arrogant SOB!

But Manny as a tongressman....wag na lang, bukod sa matatalo lang...huhuhutan lang sya ng pera ng partido nya!

Kung gusto talagang makapasok sa Batasan, why not try to represent the sporting community....take part as a party list rep for the athletes

I may even consider voting for him then....not because i like manny for congress but i truly believe this is one part of the citizenship that needs representation

  15. Only China have a professional league... Yung Iran maybe all of us know na mhirap yung country due to trade embargo. Yung ibang middle east countries ang alam ko sumasali sila sa mga invitational tourney. Or nagpupunta sa malapit na bansa to play.

dude, you may have mixed iraq with iran

i wouldnt exactly categorize iran as "mahirap"

Iran has an estimated GDP of $290B (PH is $140B +)

But i guess all that is for another discussion on a different thread and forum :)

however, i think i do get what you mean

but the thing is, i dont think the amount of partipation and invitational tourneys with neighboring countries is the issue with the RP team...but the level of competition that is available within SE Asia

simply putting it, the closest competition we have in our region is from Indonesia and to say that they are 5 years behind with basketball is an understatement

the most economically feasible means to foster teamwork and cohesiveness with Smart-Gilas is with having them compete toe-to-toe with the PBA

    however, training shouldn't stop there

Smart-Gilas should look into regular participation in international competitions (outside of SE Asia); preferably in Europe

  16. Bakit ang china, iran at ibang middle east countries may professional league ba? pero bakit sila ang nagchachampion?

Hindi kaya masyado lang mataas ang tingin ng mga pilipino sa PBA dahil "professional"

Iranian Basketball Super League (est. 1998)

    Chinese Basketball Association (est. 1995)

  17. Forming the Smart Gilas team by the SBP was the right move for our national team to do good

in international competition. The players are not allowed to turn pro but are well compensated

for their services. Some of the players who turn down the offer from the amateur ranks are

Maeirhoffer, Menor, Arellano, Cruz. Although the intention is well organized, we all know basing

from the line-up mentioned above that they don't have the material to be competitive. Even if they

practiced everyday for 3 years. They need some players from the pros to compensate for their lack

of ceiling. The SBP is considering to naturalized certain players to make up for their lack of ceiling inside.

CJ Giles is being considered but recently i saw playing in the NBA Summer League. Hopefully, all our

basketball leaders would unite for goal to come true...OLYMPICS

I dont think ceiling is would be the issue for the Gilas team. As it is, Gilas is actually taller than most PBA teams.

What they do lack is experience, cohesiveness and court sense...sa madaling salita, gulang

I do think that they're on the right track.

Im not sure if Norwood, Aguilar and/or Dillinger's current home teams have given the green light on them joining the Gilas team, not with the recent statements of Toroman (and SBP) and Guiao (PBA)
