Immortal666
I'm trying to trace the roots and history of metal in the Philippines. I guess I was inspired by the very detailed and highly informative Pinoy punk/hardcore history lesson made by Ninjacol in the hardcore/punk thread. If any of you guys read that, you'd notice that '80s underground music was dominated by hardcore/punk rock bands and no mention at all of any metal bands. It was only during the tail end of the '80s/early '90s that metal reared its head in the underground scene. By this time, hardcore bands had started incorporating metal into their music and slowly morphing themselves into metal bands. By this time, metal had began to supplant hardcore/punk as the music of choice in the underground scene. Below is a brief history of metal in the perspective of a poster, lifted from filipinometal.com: Part 1 By Sadistic Impaler i think i can share a little but philipine metal history in general i think mejo mhrap ata un,pinoi metal ug scene n lng as i witness it,lets start wid warheads on the mid 80s cla ung speedmetal i think n ngkaroon ng break s mainstream f im not mistaken ivory records cla nka sign non, hindi cla lehitimong ug band but for being the first i include them here, speedmetal o thrashmetal ang popular s ug scene i think s olongapo mrmi rin ng emerge n speedmetal bands dun n also our very own ug scene d 1st n witness k nun is deadends ng co2ver n cla ng metallica nun n f u listen to their damnation album ramdam muna ang influence nla they crossover frm hardcore 2 thrash nun, mejo in d late 80s headed by Jun gaza then came out Discant x n among them also came euthanasia,M.A.D. & alikes also in this era mrmi s mga ug bands nun ang ng crossover s thrash, also in this same era the birth of the 1st deathmetal in the pinoi scene was CREMATORIOME follows by the pride of marikina CARESS OF STEEL who latter change its name to K.N.K. found by POL MAGAT himself.in the early 90s enter d 1st black metal emerge in d scene was DEIFAGO (TRIVIA; C Mike Villegas was also a former member of this trio) of course nka panda o corpse paint n cla nun i also remember those fanzines ng mga era n un it was BAKAL,WEREWOLF ZINE,SCRAP ZINE n many more, mga mid 90s n tlaga ng flourish ang scene nun aktibo ang MARIKINA for being d death metal capital on dat era. d pillars of marikina was D.A.B.,ICONOCLAST,POSTHOMOUS,SCUM(TRIVIA i think cla ang unang ng GRIND o ng BLAST nun c mariane d drummer was a female)K.N.K. also n this era unfortunatelly d na i produce d 1st deathmetal compilation called THEMES OF MADNESS dnt know kung bkt d ng materialize but i already listen to d copy it was a garrage rec. pro k! lng kc dats d glory of being in d ug d more n raw o D.I.Y.mas lalong tumataas ang integrity n2,a must have collection i regret i lend dis to my fren n never been able 2 get frm him. d lng nman s marikina nag prosper ang scene nun i remember dis band frm VALENZUELA SARILEGIONE the reincarnation of CREMATORIUME i saw them somewhere in the suburb ug gig in valenzuela, seeing RONALD d bands frontman & the bands music was such a blast it was really an intense set s knla lng ako nka witness n nag mosh at ng headbang ang mga audience which is very rare m mkita s mga dethmetal gig nun & their music differs frm their dethmetal counter parts nla nun, di cla ganon kgaleng technically pro iba tlaga ang music nla they were among those few who defy generic dethmetal on that era n i for one would attest to dat,& also frm BULACAN i can nver forget dis band bcoz of their uncanny skilled n technecallity corret me f im wrong i didnt know kung cla POL or this band pionereed technical dethmetal on dat era im talking abt BRIMSTONE IN FIRE a technical dethmetal frm bulacan f someone of u heard kablang anyo ng buhay a deathmetal compilation u will notice there music in d vein of atheist o ung pnahon ng death on human album, individual thuoght n so on nsa gn2ng akma cla ng tunog nung time n un. pano mga guys alaws n me atik d2 eh wait nu part 2 n2 bka 2morow o kya kung klan n me mgka atik so long guys wait nu ung part 2!!!!!! Immortal666
Part 2 (still from Sadistic Impaler) hi ya folks! sori 4 d delay due to hardship of earning money dis days im not been able to post this early d lng me alang bread im pretty much occupied dis days kya d lang atik ang prblema k pti n rin apportunity kya sori tlqa s delay. ok! dis s my last part conclusion to wat i post earlier abt d "phil metal ug history as i witness it" note mga fellow metalheds as i witness it.i nver claim dis as an absolute or accurate view of our phil metal ug history.i post dis according to my past experience & observation of d scene kya yung mga date i never put them n exact figures & im also felt sori to those bands of those era dat i never meant to mention here. so pipol out der feel free to put or include ur opinions to add beef to this(my) so called phil metal ug history of mine.ok i start once again inbetween mid n late 90s legendary hardcore band I.O.V. crossover to the art of extreme metal PIN guitar voc of IOV form his own band RESSURECTED which is presently active in the scene untill now they cover frm megadeth, suicidal tendecies,s.o.d. n many more & another guy was JERRY lead guitar of IOV form his band INSARGEANTS PILE whos music into BRUTAL TRUTH n other grind stuff d rin masyado ngtagal ang band nla dat was d lst time i saw jerry n pgkatpos non i nver heard anything frm dem any more, local club such as CLUB DREDD produce among one of the best thrashers in the scene dat is MASS CARNAGE which was compose by MICHAEL GENE of D.A,B. n some ader members frm d defunct band SCIZOPRENIA (local thrash band frm d old CLUB DREDD Q.C.) d lng me sure kung cla tlaga un they jst luk familiar anyway f ur luking 4 a band who flawlessly cover songs frm SLAYER cla un,amazing vocals great talents good originals in this same era again POL MAGAT of KNK reinvent their music by adding fresh members dat includes SANTY d 6 stringer genius of EUTHANASIA the legendary thrash god frm the 80s KNK achieve the height of their technical superiority creating intense riff awesome guitar attack combine by pols effective syncopated artistry at its best.d mid n d late 90s produce a lot of great bands n the UG scene to make it short here are some of the great bands exist on that era SACRILEGE,(BULACAN),APOSTATE(RECTO),PENETRALIA(PARANAQUE),BARANG(MLA) n many more n the eve of millenia the scene suffer a massive degradation due to economic crisis some other bands seeks greener pasture some aders unable to continue due to financial difficulty, the trend of club gig production imposing force ticket selling capitalizing frm some of ug band itself i think is also one of the big factor why the decline of phil UG scene bcome imminent at those era. f**k!!!! those apportunist greedy pipol, organizers who benefit n profit at those time. gladly our present metal scene right now despite of the crisis looks flourishing nman bcoz of the numerous band popping out frm different places s tngin ko mejo healty nman ito unlike before konti lng ang venue at kung my venue man umiiral prin ung ticket selling unlike now my mediume n such as the internet although ung ibang UG bands wala s world wide web ok lng atleast open n ang pinto at my tool na to reach n spread d music and its also a gud sign ngba2lkan n ung mga dting banda d lng s western kundi pti n rin d2 s atin(phils) ngba2lkan n rin cla,sa mga fellow metalheds mejo mrami p sna to be told abt the past metal ug scene i wish sna history dnt repeat itself mag observe tyo at sumoporta,i did this to benefit nman ung mga newbie mrami p kc s iba dyan n mga metal wanna be kla nla metal n ang KORN at iba pang no metal este! neo metal bullshit d ko nman nla2hat my iba rin nmang ok kso ilan lng un msama pa na abuse p rin ito ng commercialism ung ibang bandang ok i suggest suportahan ntin ung mga ug band na D.I.Y. at embrace ntin ule ung mga legendary bands n bmablik ule bcoz f not for them thers not so much to be told abt our scene n they are responsible for shaping the genre of extreme metal music.arguably at this point i strongly believe all those band i mention here is among the greatest & the best our own UG scene has to offer. i wuld also like to take this apportunity to pay tribute to the coolest & talented guy in the UG scene in memory of JAY DIMALANTA of DEAD ENDS eternal peace to you bro! the UG scene will always missed you!.. PEACE & HARMONY TO THE UG SCENE.ADIOUS!!!!! source: http://www.filipinometal.com/forums.php?se...=Topics&id=1004 Quote Link to comment
Immortal666
If anyone can modify or add to this history of metal in the Philippines, please feel free to post. But I'd prefer something earlier than what was already mentioned by Sadistic Impaler. After reading it, Im still in disbelief that local metal bands didn't start sprouting out till the late '80s. Siguro naman may mga banda naman nung early '80s na inspired ng Sabbath, Maiden o Motorhead. Baka may info pa kayo jan, share naman. Quote Link to comment

Before the KNK, Iconoclast, etc. In the late 80's.. there was a band inspired heavily by AC/DC and The Cult.. this was Mere Mercy.. Deceased (fronted by Ray Decay) naman was inspired by Thrash Metal.. they were heavily influenced by Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax.. BTW just bought a concert of Anthrax.. first time I saw them in concert.. galing! When they performed I'm the Man.. man, it gave me goosebumps.. first crossover yun ng rap and metal eh..
