I was disappointed with not only the loss by Randy Couture but also the loss of Jorge Gurgel. As Joe Rogan kept on pointing out during the fight. The guy keeps fighting like a kickboxer when he really ought to use his world class BJJ blackbelt skills a lot more. So much for trying for takedowns during the last minute of the last round as they say it was just too little and too late.

Anyway Brock's win poses I think some pretty interesting scenarios. For one a match with either Mir or Nog ought to be good and with his win we can expect an influx of these really 'freakishly, gigantic heavyweights' to try and enter the UFC now. IMO if the UFC does get a truckload of these giants maybe he ought to put up another weight division for them. Say 'Super Heavyweight' perhaps like they have in boxing or bodybuilding.

Great BJJ displays as well by Damian Meia and Mark Bocek and that Armbar from Omo Plata setup by Dustin Hazelett was one slick submission. I look forward to seeing him win more UFC Submission of the Night awards in the future.

I called it...Brock is faster, stronger, bigger than Couture. What he lacked in experience and skill, he made up for raw talent and brute force.

Couture was actually doing very well in the first round, he controlled brock against the cage, stuffed his takedown, and actually had Brock gassed and cut by the end of the round.

drills

It's just that Brock has really large and heavy hands and Randy got caught. This is MMA, everybody gets caught.

One thing I noticed though is that Brock really works on his hammer fists, he knows to set up in a postured side mount, and just chop the opponent down.

Brock has nothing for Nog though.

Dustin Hazelett looks freaky but damn his jiu jitsu is strong.

Yeah the guy was still wearing a Tanner Tribute Beard (too bad Joe Rogan already shaved his off). They guy has got really sick BJJ. He got an omo plata one of the arms, rory countered and he shifted to lock down the other arm before getting that twisting armbar.

i felt bad for rory, that looked really really painful

I wanna ask you guys if you think another division is needed for the UFC, like a Super Heavyweight division.

Personally I think the weight difference in CoutureXLesnar was ridiculous, that would be like Joe Stevenson fighting Rampage, and we all know that with two skilled and trained fighters the bigger man will always have the advantage.

But then again you can argue that it was Randy's choice to come in at 220.

So what do you think? UFC super heavyweight division, yay or nay?

Yay here for a Super Heavyweight Division. Perhaps something like 205.1 to 250 for the HW Division then 250 and above. Or perhaps they should just reorganize the entire range of weight classes.

For Comparison here are the weight classes for our sport Freestyle Wrestling:

-55kg (121 lbs. and below)

-06kg (132 lbs. and below)

-66kg(145.2 lbs. and below)

-74kg(162.8 lbs. and below)

-84kg(184.8 lbs. and below)

-96kg(211.2 lbs. and below)

-120kg(264 lbs. and below)

120+(264.1 lbs and above)

the IBJJF (Int'l BJJ Federation) uses a similar weight class system. In boxing if you've noticed there are even more 'stringent' weight classes, some divisions only differ by 3-5 lbs.

Oh I just wanna add nga pala. During a BJJ or a Wrestling Tournament oftentimes some of the weight classes are merged due to lack of competitors (I have been a victim of this several times in competitions already grrr..). My point being perhaps right now in the UFC with Brock being the only 'Freakishly Gigantic' HW around there might not be a need to implement a new weight division (or divisions) yet. But if more and more 'giants' enter the UFC (like that gigantic Korean guy Fedor caught in an armbar) perhaps a new weight class is in order.

Jeremy Stephens vs. Rafael dos Anjos

Stephens won via KO (Punches) at :39 of round 3.

Man really tought Dos Anjos had that omoplata/crucifix but Stephens tuffed it out! And yeah he's a Joe Daddy lookalike, kala ko kapatid!

About Gurgel! this guy has sick BJJ and never uses it in his fights! He tries to be exciting and strikes it out but he loses. As Dela Grotte says trying to be "Macho" in the octagon. Hope he gets cut from the UFC this time! though he won fight of the night and a hefty $60k bonus! hehe

Super Heavyweight?! Nah... no need na yan. We all know Randy has always been a small HW thats why he drop to LHW dati di ba?!

Now Lesnars gonna have his hands full with Nog/Mir because they are legit HW's with good subs. I'm seeing ala Nog vs. Sapp here! haha :thumbsupsmiley:

Dustin Hazelett is the man! Grabe ung jiu jitsu nya...

Awesome use of the rubber guard...

Kung si Mir ang makaharap ni Brock, mas malaki ung chance nya na manalo than him facing Big Nog, Nog can take punches and still win the fight. With Mir, I think Brock already learned his mistakes on the first fight plus the fact that Mir's chin is quite questionable..

and dos Anjos was winning the fight before he got caught by that super uppercut ^_^

me too, i feel sad that Randy lost... he got caught by an elbow earlier in the round and his legs wobbled a bit which Brock capitalized and then after a bit Randy got caught by that straight in his temple area KDs him and Brock capitalizes with the hammerfist beatdown before Mario Yamasaki ended the fight. i dunno about another heavier weightclass, i just think that now the UFC HWs would mass up so the can try andmatch Lesnar's size as well

Meia was the bomb! he took Quarry down and then choked him out, when he was able to put the fight on the ground via that sweep/whizzer takedown that he did (pretty unconventional takedown in my opinion), i was shouting it's over talo na si Quarry, and he ayun nangyari nga. wala ng napuntahan si Nate with the body triangle..

yep Bocek was great but you've gotta give props to Al Robinson for defending from the sub attempts, kaso ayun he was already too tired to defend from the RNC sa huli

hehehe yup napansin ko din yun, Brock has this thing for posturing up in side mount and then laying a beat down of hammer fist na ambibilis ^_^

yup Dustin is a tall WW and hehehe he looked liked a thin wild man with his Tanner beard ^_^

yup sayang si Gurgel, he shouldhave used his BJJ early in the fight... sakit na nya yung kapag natatamaan siya nakikipagsabayan siya. in the 2nd when he did that double-leg, it was with authority that he was able to bring the fight to the ground, he should have started the 3rd with takedowns and GnPed his way to victory, kaso late na nung nang takedown siya nung 3rd and his game became predictable...

sayang si Gurgel... mga students nya nanalo siya natalo....

mmm there's a lot of big men that can fit in a super heavy weight, big tim comes in at 260, arlovski can make around 250-255, josh barnett, carwin, napao, etc.

i'm just saying this because Brock's freakishly huge size is the one thing that turns me off. He hasn't faced anyone around his weight, and he just rolls them over because of the sheer weight disadvantage. Now put Brock against someone as big as he is (Big Tim, will give brock fits, excellent takedown defense plus very good utilization of the jab), and let him tough it out and probably i'll be more impressed.

Anyway,it was a good win for Brock for sure, but he had to exert himself against an older guy who he outweighs by almost 60 pounds at least, if he were a bit smaller the fight would have been way different. He had no ground defense and opens himself up for a variety of submission, which Randy couldn't capitalize on because he's not an expert at submissions. His striking for all its power is pretty one-dimensional, no combinations or change of angles, just single straight or looping punches. He doesn't even kick, and leaves himself open for the jab a lot of times.

these are also the reasons that make me choose Nog over Brock. Better boxing than Randy, better submissions, and probably the toughest chin next to Mark Hunt. Nog is better than Randy in all those areas, and I see a quick submission victory for Nog

BUT, if Nog intends to fight Brock, he has to do it quickly, if he waits a little longer or even beyond summer 2009, Brock will be a very different fighter from the one that beatdown Randy.

mr. hondacaptiva, alam mo ba na bibilhin na ni Mr. McMahon ang UFC?

Oh s@%t this is gonna be really uninteresting common i dont think the ferttitas are just too stupid to do this or maybe Vince realized that real action clicks more nowa days compare to a scripted one... I hope the ferttitas will not let go of UFC...they are still i guess the best people to to handle the organization.

OA naman comments mo sir. wala namang strecher. Anyway I think he should retire na nga. He had his time and no one can surpass yung mga ginawa nya. Lucky punch lang yung kay lesnar. He is not even a tenth nung nagawa ni natural

If he wins against minotauro then he might earn my respect hehhehehe

malaki lang talaga si Brock.. as posted above, if he beats Minotauro, he'll earn my respect.

Absolutely, a lucky punch from the untested beast going to a tired and almost windless veteran. UFC 91 was about, size vs. age. Looks like Dana toiled with the idea and obviously size has more advantage over age, since age has alot of factors that can cost one athlete either on succes or failure.

Still my hats off to Randy for braving the huge monster and all of what he had done for the sport. (can Brock reach the same height of achievement, Randy had?) If brock can deafet a guy same of his size then he'll get my respect and he can have a greenlight against fedor. As of now I'm still not impressed of brock. No way Randy should be get a shot first over fedor before brock can do so. It would be unrespectfull if brock will go against fedor first.

very very good indeed!... especially the transistion from an omo plata to an armbar!... the kid got great BJJ.

jeremy stevens uppercut from hell did him good!.. knocking out his opponent were he is being dominated for 2 rds.

kudos for kenfLo for winning against Joe Daddy. earning him a title shot against penn next year.

well,.. its sad to see Cap losing. still, he gave us something to booth. he got brock in some exchange were he eventually cut lesnar's right eyebrow. till next fight randy!...

brock vs napao as superheavyweights!?....

btw,... napao is really bulked up!.. he had become more bigger that before. also the power of his punches might also increase by the way he KTFO of his opponent last night.

Napao's fight game is still improving, he may have encountered a bump in his loss to Werdum, but definitely he is earning my respect now...

imagine after that straight his opponent was senseless...

damn, and yeah he's massing up as well, probably preparing for heavier opponents, like Werdum in his last fight, he was damn big

If Im not mistaken WWE owns 20% share of the UFC. They offered UFC to some buyers months back but did not sell it. Maybe they were just testing if somebody's interested and for how much. Also now Lorenzo Fertita quit his post in the Station Casinos (which they owned) to work fulltime in the UFC's international expansion. And with $300million in revenues last year for payperviews, gates, merchandise and etc. The Fertitas and Dana White wont be selling anytimesoon. :hypocritesmiley:
