Theft, robbery down in Metro; killings up

http://newsinfo.inquirer.net/797440/theft-robberies-down-in-metro-but-killings-up

The weekly average for the past two weeks were nearly double or double the averages for the first 26 weeks of the year: A daily average of two for murder and one for homicide.

“Murder and homicide increased because of incidents of found bodies on the streets,” Albayalde explained. Many of the bodies displayed written signs declaring them as criminal or drug user or pusher. These are believed to be victims of summary killings.

Meanwhile, figures showed that 509 cases of crimes against property were reported in the first two weeks of July, a daily average of 34 compared to 42 during the preceding weeks.

For July, so far, 144 robbery cases, a daily average of 10, and 324 theft cases, or 22 per day, were reported. These are lower than the daily averages for the first 26 months of 2016: 12 for robbery and 25 for theft.

Daily average for motor vehicle and motorcycle thefts have also gone down: from five in the first 26 months of the year to two in the past two weeks.

“So the PNP chief was correct to say that street crimes have gone down. This is the effect of our campaign against illegal drugs, because all street crimes are related to illegal drugs,” Albayalde said.

“Mostly, crimes [against property] are the ones related to illegal drugs, especially theft, because a person would steal just to buy their drugs,” the NCRPO chief said.

For me its good. I know most of the killings are salvaged drug pushers. Normally this is really not good but the ratio of drug addicts in every barangays are really surprising. Masyado na talagang talamak that its really a biilion dollar business kaya kahit Generals kaya nilang presyuhan. Extreme cases needs extreme measures. Sinabihan naman sila na sumuko eh pero ayaw so sapalaran na alng.

In other words kung mangyari yan sa isang kapamilya mo you will accept it wholeheartedly? hindi magbabago pananaw mo? Hindi mo sasabihin na bakit pa kailangan i-salvage sana hinuli at kinulong na lang just as what I often hear from family members of victims.

Btw, you said "you know most of the killings are salvaged drug pushers" ... curious lang ako kung ang basehan ba ay official report ng imbestigastion dahil natukoy na talagang pushers o addict ang mga ito o dahil may nakasabit na "PUSHER AKO" nun nakita ang bangkay?

Fil-Am Roxas campaigner on meeting Duterte: 'My impression has evolved'

- See more at: http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/574413/news/pinoyabroad/fil-am-roxas-campaigner-on-meeting-duterte-my-impression-has-evolved?utm_source=GMANews&utm_medium=Twitter&utm_campaign=GMANewsTwitter#sthash.cBLKTe42.dpuf

“When he appeared, the first thing he said was, ‘I apologize for being late. I was with the woman who was held hostage by the Abu Sayyaf… I’m Rody.’ He impressed me that he would apologize. He shook all of our hands. We introduced ourselves as he went around the table. After shaking our hands, he asked ‘Saan ako uupo.’ He sat facing Manny Pangilinan.”

Duterte spoke for about 45 minutes. He reiterated how corruption is the biggest challenge for the Philippines. That is why, he said, he is “very careful about whom I select to serve the government,” according to Lewis.

Lewis is reminded of Transportation secretary Arthur Tugade, a long-time Duterte classmate in law school from San Beda. Tugade from Cagayan worked for the administration of President Benigno Aquino III as CEO of the Clark Development Corporation.

“He has a track record with Noynoy. He cleaned up Clark. He is straight,” she said.

I was very very amazed at how clean Davao was. Not an empty soda can, not a candy wrapper, not a cigarette butt did I see anywhere,” she said.

the answer should come from commoners in the metro. do they feel safer now compared than before or not?

if only based on opinions and not personal experiences then it can be subjective

This early my take is that not much has change ... in terms of "feeling safer".

I mean hindi naman sa naprapraning ako before Duterte came in but un pagiingat ko on petty crimes ganun pa din naman ang pagiingat na ginagawa ko sa ngayon.

I think any impact if ever, its too early to be seen given one month pa lang. So realistically any improvement, say in petty crimes should be seen 3-6 months down the line based on their campaign that started upon assumption of office. Hopefully mas malaking improvement sa daily average.

IIMHO though, I beg to disagree on the statement that all petty crimes are all "drug related". I do believe that a greater portion is still poverty related. Yun tipong walang pangkain, walang pambili ng gamot kaya kapit patalim na magnakaw.

As I said earlier, apprub sa akin ang anti drug campaign ni Du30 except that may dapat i-fine tune. The crime against person (murder and homicide) is obviously on the rise which is not a good sign considering that hindi naman kasama dito yun mga napatay sa legit na drug operation.

Not surprised.. people are still banking on his promises. ganyan talaga yan.... but as days goes by and they start feeling promises prove to be empty.... and all of what they see are just PR drama..... the rating will start to slip.
