the aim of SD is quite noble however we have been reduce to scouting potential naturalized payers instead of developing your own grassroot... let face it we will never earn an olympic medal or even a world medal in our lifetime..... we are rank no 50+++ in fiba.... china is rank among the top ten... and to be consistently rank among the world top team we should be able to sustain a program that will carry us into the next decade... really do we have the resources to lure high caliber foreigner o enlist for our team? look at what happened to both giles and sampson.... bottom line is MONEY TALK..... even if we are able to qualify for the london olympics what next?? to be able to sustain a sports program, we should have the players to buck up that program.... we may have beaten the austrailian team but remember it a friendly game and not a regular tournament.... talent is not everything if you are engaging in a sports where there are no l limitation in terms of built and height..... im not saying na masama manangarap... go ahead let us compete... who knows maybe during such tournament the entire delegation of the top contender might encounter some problems and we might even won a championship by default... hehehe

I believe that the Philippines could get into the top 3 in the next Asiad. The naturalized player should be a shot-blocking demon, a rebounder and a low-post threat. He doesn't have to score in bunches coz the others will take good care of that. Yup, SG should as much as possible participate in European tournaments or have exhibition matches with European teams.

I think the Smart Gilas idea is a noble idea and allows us Filipinos to dream that someday just maybe a Filipino Basketball team will again bring glory to the country. It doesnt need to win gold in the olympics but at least compete with the best teams in the world by qualifying for tournaments like the Olympics, World Championships, and winning the Asian Championship.

 

And Gilas is a TEAM, plays as a team and stays within its system, not a bunch of me-first basketball players.

 

About getting a naturalized player, well all the other countries do it why shouldnt we? Russia had JR Holden, the US team had Hakeem Olajuwon and Tim Duncan, Japan, Lebanon, Jordan all have naturalized players. Half-Filipinos are still Filipinos by Citizenship. So we are just merely trying to do what others have been doing for a long time.

so ur measuring their success based on their win loss records???? Since they got a win then "relatively" it was successful. If the did not win any games then its a failure.

 

I believe the success of this trip can't be measured by the games won or loss but by the experience they were able to get. If the team learned some lessons in this trip irregardless of the record which would help them win games in the tournament that matters then it is an absolutely successful trip.
