Depression: How To Deal

Recommended Posts

Talk to a trained medical professional specializing in psychiatry. Malaking bagay yung meron ka makakausap na makakaintindi sa nararamdaman mo and knows how to give you advice and medications to help you as well.

I’m not a doctor, so I can’t diagnose or give medical treatment. but here are things that actually help a lot of people deal with depression day-to-day:

1. start small, not perfect
depression makes everything feel heavy. don’t aim for “fix my whole life today”. aim for: drink water, stand up for 2 mins, wash your face. tiny wins count.

2. talk to someone you trust
you said it yourself, checking on people helps. that works both ways. text a friend: “not okay today, can we just chat?” you don’t have to open up about everything. just being around someone helps.

3. move your body a little
I know “exercise” sounds impossible when you’re depressed. but even 5-min walk outside, stretching, or dancing to 1 song can shift your brain chemistry a bit.

4. limit the noise
social media, hurtful people, news — mute/unfollow if it makes you feel worse. protect your peace like it’s your job.

5. write it out
like what you posted earlier. getting thoughts out of your head and onto paper/phone notes makes them less loud. no filter needed.

6. get professional help if you can
a therapist or doctor can give you tools + support that friends can’t. If you’re in the Philippines, you can reach out to:
•  NCMH Crisis Hotline: 1553, 0919-057-1553, 0917-899-8727 - 24/7, free
•  Hopeline PH: 0917-558-4673

If you ever feel like you might hurt yourself:
please reach out right now. you deserve to stay. Call/text 988 Suicide & Crisis lifeline if you’re in the US, or 1553 NCMH in PH. you can also message me. I’ll stay with you.

depression lies and tells you it’ll never get better. but it can. It’s slow, and it’s messy, but people do get through it including the person you saw today. you noticing it + posting about kindness already shows you have a big heart.
