dragonei
Afterall its good to have a course that instills good old fashioned military discipline, and afterall its also good to learn stuff like making the other poor bastard die for country and cause. In fact in korea, students are required to do service in the army for at least two years. They live in the barracks, they dress up like soldiers, and they get issued a firearm, the whole nine yards. Because of programs like this, their armed forces are strong. Unfortunately for me having undertaken the program I do not believe that it has strengthened our military, neither do I believe that it promotes patriotism and all that other bullsh!t objectives they said. Heck if it did eh di sana hangang ngayon mandatory pa rin ang ROTC. But don't get me wrong I am all for it. I do want to have a program like this under the following conditions. 1.) Those that handle the program must have a clear curicculum of the course, heck they should have a syllabus the way PE does. The Cadettes should learn something tangible like for petes sake! how not to get shot by the enemy, how to handle battle wounds, how to fire a weapon etc., how to handle himself in hand to hand combat. 2.) The ROTC department should never enjoy complete autonomy from the policies of the school itself. Any anomaly they make, they should be also subjected to investigation. If they create income generating project i.e. uniforms, boots, et. al they should follow proper bidding procedures of the schools. 3.) There should be a clear guideline for conduct of a proper officer and a gentleman. Ang hirap ito ang pina hindi nasusunod, the program should train officers that will help defend this country and not create bullies behind ranks. Kadalasan pa nga nananakit sila ng kadete just for the fun of it kahit minsan wala na naman yun kinalaman sa training nila. I mean sure, no pain no gain, paminsan minsan kelangan mo magpa push up man lang kung walang disiplina kadete mo, but officers should also know that a rank is not a license to bully your subordinates. I mean its the officers duty to protect his men, not to be the first one to k*ll them, especially when they go out of line. All physical punishments or otherwise should be done in context with the training itself. 4.) Cadet officers should maintain a grade requirement like varsity players do. Quote Link to comment

Heck if it did eh di sana hangang ngayon mandatory pa rin ang ROTC. The problem with this is that a lot of the kids wouldn't take this seriously and I'm sure that a lot of them would protest on this. They'll just come up with lame excuses why this shouldn't be mandatory....I agree with the conditions you pointed out...Mababali wala lang yung ROTC kung incompetent din naman pala yung mga mag hahandle at mag ffacilitate... dragonei
Tsaka isa pa, pwede ba turuan naman ng mga cadet officers that its pronound "God Damn It!" Not "gatdemit!" Hindi ko maintindihan why cadet officers tend to make a point by ending and beggining their sentence with "gatdemit!" "Gatdemit! were are you going?""gatedemit! gib me tu wiks""gatdem yu! be quiet gtdemit""wer is yur gadem tickler gatdemit!" Jesus H. Christ! its one thing to take the lords name in vane, and it worse if you mispronounce it, and it definetly the worst if you keep saying it believeing that it will eventually add inches to your dick! Seriously, cadet officers say "gatdemit" like it adds inches to their dick. What cadet officers seem not to understand is that you do not need to bully your subordinates to get them to follow you. All you need is for them to respect you. I remember when we were having a tactical inspection, the inspecting officer asked the platoon leader who was the commander in chief (the president duh!), eh sumagot ba naman yung gago na "Sir pasensya na po hindi ko alam". The inspectiong officer of course was furious because in the first place a soldier should never say "I don't know sir, but I will try to find out sir". We couldn't of course help but at least grin. And what did he say to his platoon next? Eh di anu pa kundi "Gatdemit! drop and gib me 3 wiks!" But in fairness there are good cadet officers. Strict ( I mean one at least has to be in a military), but at least reasonable. And most of all shows genuine skills and intellegence. I mean would I trust my life in the battlefield to a halfwit moron platoon leader who does not even know that his commander in chief is no less than the president? ugh! I bet kung sa gyera nga siya yung huling lulusob at mauunang magretreat Quote Link to comment
TheGeneral
it was unfortunate that i was one of the students who had to undergo that ROTC program (1990-1992). i don't know how the other schools go about the subject but back then in San Beda, we have ROTC simultaeneously with students from CEU. for me, it's was just a bunch of crap, total waste of time and money. again, as i've said, i don't know about the other schools and i am talking of my time then. i just paid off my absences, and red tape was everywhere. so please, don't talk to me about discipline when the people supposed to be teaching us that were the ones with the fat bellies sitting behind their office desks with the electric fan whirring (ha! imagine the common scene ). they never got the respect of 95% of the cadets. they only attend because they needed to. :thumbsdownsmiley: again, this is based on my personal experience and my own perspective on the matter. Oh same here compadre! Actually sa more developed na countries, huling grumagraduate yung lalake because they need to serve the military for at least one or two years. As in the whole nine yards, you get to stay in the camp and get issued a weapon. And you do actual service. Pag kumuha ka sa canteen its "Drop and gib me two wiks gatdemit". This was the time when the ROTC units were not regulated. They were not required to submit a curiculum, they were always overlooked somehow, s@%t the quality of learning was not even supervised. And it took one UST student para mamatay pa to trigger an alaram. Same situation in UST bro, in my case I only took 1 sem of ROTC when I wan in my 1st year, the rests were just paid, I can't remember exactly how much but I think it was something like 500 pesos per sem (1988 & 89). One think I hate also with this is the Sunday whole day training, pucha un na nga lang time na makakagising ng medyo late, un pa ung time na maagang-maaga gigising para ibilad lang kayo sa araw. escalante
hindi n siguro kailangan ibalik un, sabi nga sa previous post ito ang great example ng corruption...discipline?i don't think so...kupalan lang ang nangyayari jan eh...ang mga officers akala mo kung sino...mabibilad kayo sa araw ng puro martsa, upo...at kung ano ano lang...ayun cguro lalakas ang stamina mo...and cguro kya binibilad sa araw eh para magutom and shempre kailangan mo bumili ng juice or tubig kaya instant kita ulit ang mga officers kasi sila rin ang nagbebenta...ahihihihihi...what a heck! dragonei
There was a time masyadong confident noon ang mga ROTC commandants. O loko! they were dead wrong about that one! At least yun required sila to do something civic. After that incident with UST it really became a wake up call kung kelangan nga ng mga college students ang ROTC. Anak ng tokwa basta lang naman you are ready to be harassed physically and psychologically, cadet officer ka na. Quote Link to comment
