This is the ideal progression imo. That last step is what you call the extra mile and isn't necessarily a must. Perfectly normal to have a passion that is simply treated as a hobby and doesn't earn income as long as it doesn't count as too much of an expense at the same time.

I’m not in a position to gamble on my passion yet. I’ve worked my way up step by step, and I know how hard it is to climb that ladder. I’m not gonna throw that away chasing something uncertain. So yeah, I’ll choose money not to stay stuck, but to buy my way into a life where I can eventually choose what I actually enjoy.
