I am not sure if this qualifies, but before Will Smith became a famous movie star, one of his very first movies was, SIX DEGREES OF SEPARATION. Very different from his superhero roles he plays today.

Great movie but this is french, directed by Luc Besson (Transporter 1& 2, Fifth Element, Leon)

 

Leon the Professional is also good directed also by Luc Besson and stars Jean Reno and Natalie Portman.

Memento chronicles two separate stories of Leonard, an ex-insurance investigator who can no longer build new memories, as he attempts to find the murderer of his wife, which is the last thing he remembers. One story line movies forward in time while the other tells the story backwards revealing more each time

I can say that the local movie "Pitong Dalagita" is a good one - I never expected it to be that good, akala ko the time they were airing the trailers teeny bopper flick, pero hindi naman pala talaga.
