howard_the_duck
Hindi ba Chelsea is owned by a Russian tycoon? But then again, that's Chelsea. Quote Link to comment
teio
well... man utd is more embedded in the hearts of english football fans because of its rich history compared to chelsea... roman ambramovich has this certain charisma among fans... he instilled life to a then struggling chelsea side... plus he is a european... aside from the tradition issue... isn't it obvious that glazer is a victim of the growing resentment among europeans to things related to the US... damaso
barcelona are spanish champs!! not a bad year for my fave teams: in the epl, bolton qualified for the uefa cup. in ligue 1, lyon were champions. only disappointment was in serie a, where inter milan are a far third. Quote Link to comment

Is it true that Real Madrid is planning to get Ferdinand? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> ac milan is 2nd. inter milan is 3rd. real madrid has issued a statement that they are not looking to sign any man utd players, particularly rio ferdinand. but then again, they said the same thing right before the david beckham transfer. there are rumors that they tabled an offer for parma's star striker alberto gilardino. other transfer rumors: - chelsea's juan sebastian veron, currently on loan to inter, is being used as bait by chelsea for inter's adriano. - barcelona are preparing a massive bid for arsenal's thierry henry. - chelsea and man utd are in a dogfight to acquire lyon's michael essien. - man utd is courting real madrid's iker casillas. - newcastle has offered $25 million for real madrid's michael owen. bubuy
meron akong dagdag.. lampard interested in playing in spain, particularly real madrid.. no way arsene wenger and arsenal would let go of thierry henry, unless they want to be lynched by a mob.. yep, i heard that man utd is going after iker.. bubuy
ito isang looming debate on the horizon.. if (and only if) liverpool wins the ECL, they wouldn't be able to defend it because they are in 5th spot in the EPL (only the top 4 places go to the champions league).. do you think UEFA should allow liverpool to defend the cup? Poker
So why are fans of ManU angry about the Glazer takeover, and not Chelsea fans angry with Amramovich takeover? Just my point of view, ManU is a publicly listed company, Chelsea is not. Galzer needs 51% ownership to control the company, 75% ownership for ManU be Delisted in the stock exchange, and 90% ownership for a full control (meaning, no more board votes). Currently, Glazer has less than 75% ownership, therefore, ManU is still publicly listed. Around 5% of the ownership is owned by the FANS, therefore, the Fans has the right to complain on the takeover. Analysts predict that Glazer will get the 90++% ownership of ManU. Therefore, his "LOAN" to takeover the club (around $3B - not sure), will be absorbed by ManU cause Glazer has the right and power to do so. As for Chelsea, it is not a publicly listed company, therefore, there were no such "protest" going on. And as the poster above mentioned, they need Abromavich to resurrect the club. As for the future of ManU, let's see if Glazer would succeed. But as another poster above also said, this club will/should be run as a business not a sports club. Again, the above post is just my point of view. Hope this helps. Great job by Barcelona. Real Madrid must be scratching their heads right now. Quote Link to comment

However, FIFA mentioned that if Liverpool wins the Champions League, English FA will have to request to them for Liverpool to be included in next year's CL. FIFA president said that FIFA might grant the request cause its unfair for the defending champs not to defend the title. FIFA is willing to expand the English FA "delegation" to 5 slots, if Liverpool wins. But as per the rule, English FA has only 4 slots for the CL. Quote Link to comment
_eRon_
fans don't like the glazer takeover because they say it will increase the ticket prices as well as put the club in debt..(glazer is financing his takeover with a huge bank loan, he has paid 790 million for the prestigious English club) Chelsea fans welcomed Roman Abramovich because they needed the money..as compared to ManU, glazer took over ManU because of the huge profits..i think ManU can benefit from the Glazer takeover by acquiring new players to rival Chelsea & Arsenal for the championship, the fans are just afraid that ManU will lose its place as a genuine English club because of an American takeover.. I think ManU need new midfield players to supply their forwards with quality balls, especially wingers & they need to find a replacement for aging players such as Keane, Giggs..they should also supplement their defense..it will be interesting what will happen during the break, how ferguson will mold the squad to challenge not only for the EPL but for the Champions League as well..Go ManU!! it's disappointing that ac milan is only second in the serie a..not to take anything away from juventus, they deserve to be #1 after beating ac milan.. Quote Link to comment
damaso
tinanggal nila ung rule na un.. at least that's the last i heard.. just like the FIFA ruling that the defending World Cup holders would have to go through the qualifying stages.. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> actually, there has been a precedent of this situation. in 1998, real madrid won the uefa champions league but finished 5th at the primera liga. as spain were only allocated 4 champions league spots, the spanish fa decided that the 4th placed team in spain (i believe it was zaragoza, not sure) would be replaced by real madrid, so they could defend their european championship. however, the english fa will not follow suit and has declared the top 4 placed teams in the premiership would be the teams to represent england in the uefa champions league.
