revi
^^ Derrick, Dun ka pala ng-start.. rookie season nina Steve Francis and Elton Brand.. Just wanna share some thoughts again.. Not all rookie classes would be able to bring about players that would receive much "hobby" love.. That collectors would really collect.. Examples are the rookie classes of Steve Francis/Elton Brand.. Kenyon Martin/Mike Miller/Darius Miles.. Pau Gasol/Tony Parker.. But the worst is that of KMart's rookie season.. Look at players who were thought to have lots of upside like Courtney Alexander, Marcus Fizer, Mateen Cleaves, Khalid El-Amin.. They never really took off and just fell off obscurity in the card hobby world.. to top it all some even just went out of the NBA without anyone noticing.. Darius Miles and KMart were considered to be the top rookies in terms of collectability but after a few years Miles never really showed the "hype" of being the next Kevin Garnett.. while KMart's cards kinda went up when he had that 2 straight finals appearances.. But because the Nets fell short his cards stabilized and started to fizzle when he had the attitude and injuries in Denver.. That was a real rookie season bust to say the least in a collector's perspective.. As I have said, swertihan yan.. Look at Jay Williams.. The Bulls drafted him right after Houston drafted Yao Ming.. Had lots of hobby potential but because of that accident that almost killed him and left him with a lifetime injury.. His rookie cards also fell.. Who would've thought that a vehicular accident would happen to him and render his rookie cards injured as well.. I even have a Jay Williams autographed RC auto.. Well, I am just holding on to it for nostalgia purposes.. This is the reason why collecting rookie cards is a gamble.. One would never know what would happen to the player after his rookie season.. He could have lots of hype, potential and upside.. The hobby world would notice and collect him but after his rookie season, no one would really know if his hype would still translate to hobby love.. Injuries, bad attitude, bad karma (of not winning awards, or championships) would make or break the player in the hobby.. Case in point, even with Lebron James' hype.. if he stil did not bring the Cavs to the playoffs this year.. his cards might taper down a bit.. But because his hype when he entered was really huge (grabe talaga.. more than DRob's, Michael Jordan's, or even Shaq's when they entered the league), Lebron James' woeful two years was forgivable and hobbyists were willing to wait and see what can James really give.. Well, his power dunks and nice passes did help but winning is also important.. If he had lost and lost.. collectors would somehow lose interest and his cards would taper down.. LBJ's cards went down a bit before (when he did not succesfully lead the Cavs to the playoffs - in two years - and most of the time clunked his FTs) but went up a little bit again and stabilized after the playoff experience.. Look at DWade's cards.. yun ang tumaas talaga.. Hindi pa din kasing taas ni Lebron but if Wade would continue to win and win.. I would not be surprised if he becomes the next Jordan in the hobby and LBJ would just become a Barkley or a Dominique Wilkins in the hobby.. Why? Winning is more important than hype in basketball and in the hobby Quote Link to comment
dummyact
I used to collect cards in the mid-90's myself, and that Johnny Kilroy card was a great mystery at first because he was too good to be true, and yet so mysterious... hence the unbelieavable price tag and he was too good to be true; the card was a not too well-hidden attempt to bank on his name during the retirement period, and checking it on google, it looks like it was a Nike commercial campaign of some sort as well Quote Link to comment

MJ it TOO loved by the NBA and its officials that they will agree on this scenario as long as they see MJ play again Quote Link to comment

Samurai-X
This is the "suit" card of Jordan that I have.. Got this card for Php1,300.00.. Its Beckett Value is at $60.00.. --- Usually sells at 1,800.00 here.. This was from the 2000-2001 Upper Deck series that was seeded 1 per case.. This is his cheapest memorabilia card (so far).. I bought the card coz its kinda rare considering that Upper Deck did not feature a swatch from MJ's suit anymore in any of their releases after 00-01.. Here's the front of the card.. Sir Revi, please check out this card. I think this card is at $40.00 (Beckett Value)MICHAEL_JORDAN_2001_UD_OVATION_UNC_FLOOR_CARD_W0QQitemZ290018638252QQihZ019QQcategoryZ95054QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.html Quote Link to comment
revi
Sir Revi, please check out this card. I think this card is at $40.00 (Beckett Value) You are correct.. This is 2001-02 Upper Deck Ovation MJ UNC Memorabilia.. As of date, current issue of Beckett, the card is still valued at $40.00.. This is a common floor card inserted into packs in UD Ovation.. This a card in a five piece set.. There are also variants of this card.. floor/jersey and authographed versions as well.. Ito ang mahal.. $500 ang floor/jersey and unpriced ang mga autographed.. Medyo madami nito before here.. Was not too interested.. coz I have a Final Floor card worth $80 already.. Still, ngayon mahirap maghanap ng ganitong card sa secondary market sa Pilipinas.. it can be bought at around Php1K to 1,200.00 here.. Sayang nga eh.. coz its still a different card from mine.. North Carolina floor ito eh.. Yung akin.. Delta Center naman.. sayang!!! Bibid-an mo ba ito? Ingat lang pare coz the seller only has 4 feedbacks.. There are a lot of bogus transactions in e-bay.. As a lot of paid transactions remain unconsummated coz the item does not reach the buyer.. :mtc: Quote Link to comment
revi
Was able to score a very nice rookie card of Jameer Nelson (Orlando's up and coming PG of the future).. It is an SPX Autographed RC with a piece of a game worn jersey of the said player and is priced at $30 (sa Beckett).. It was sold for just Php400.. Jameer Nelson's upside is huge.. He has been the starting PG for the Magic since last season and will likely be their true PG of the future.. Talk about good timing!!! Quote Link to comment
revi
As I have said in my earlier posts in this thread.. I am a huge Tim Duncan collector.. I have the complete set of his base rookie cards.. Well, one would ask: how about the RC variants? Well, I was not lucky enough to get them.. well, sobrang mahal din naman kasi.. $300-$400.. But I have the Topps Chrome RC Refractor.. and I want to share it in this thread.. Got this card only this year for Php3,500.00 from e-bay.. its Beckett value is at $100.00.. In my wish lists are his Topps Finest Refractor RC and his Bowman's Atomic Refractor RC.. Here is the pic of the Chrome Refrac RC of TD: Quote Link to comment

I only have one rookie card of your collection, worship.. Topps RC #392.. As I have said in earlier posts, I collect RCs.. tama ng isang RC sa mga lumang players.. If you are looking for RCs of Spree.. you could try going to Peter's Collectibles sa Shoppesville Greenhills.. The shop specializes in old cards.. Mura lang.. you could get them at 30-50 pesos ea. Regarding the MJ rookie card.. How much is your cuz selling it? And is the condition good? Quote Link to comment
revi
Just wanna share a card that was recently sold for $14,999.00 in e-bay.. An american bought the card.. (hindi ako ha )This card features logoman patches from jerseys worn by Magic Johnson, Larry Bird and Michael Jordan.. and is numbered 1 of 1.. This card is sick.. May arguments (sa Beckett.com - Message Board section nila) na mura lang nakuha itong card na ito.. For me, its kinda expensive.. I would rather get an autographed logoman patch at that price of all players.. Ito yung card (picture from e-bay).. If this was autographed, that would be the Bomb!!! Quote Link to comment
revi
Just wanna share my recent pick-ups.. A Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf RC (his name at that time was Chris Jackson until he converted to Islam).. He is one of my favorite players that I have always admired but his cards were a few (inserts, RC lang ha not commons).. So ang hirap kumuha.. Plus the fact that when he came out I was only in High School.. $.20 cents lang ang card na ito.. Got it for 20 bucks.. Not very valuable but its certainly valuable to me.. Also was able to buy several college cards of the 2006-2007 rookies.. Hindi sila considered as RCs but are good addition to an RC collection nonetheless.. Adam Morrison, JJ Reddick, Randy Foye, Tyrus Thomas, La Marcus Aldridge to name a few.. Meron pa ngang numbered to 500 nina Foye and Shelden Williams.. Good pick-up din coz these are almost 50-80 cards with inserts at 200 bucks lang.. I would estimate that the Foye and Williams are both way above the $10 range.. revi
As this is a rookie cards thread.. and the new boxes of cards are just around the corner.. Lemme ask some of you (who are into basketball cards) your thoughts on the up and coming rookies and their impact - not just in the game - but most importantly hobbywise.. Would there be a superstar in the making amongst the 2006 rookies? Off the bat, I would assume that the hottest rookies would be Adam Morrison (the next Larry Bird daw), Randy Foye - he really showed his mettle in the summer league, Tyrus Thomas - being part of the Bulls, who have vastly improved would make you hot as his team is now considered a powerhouse in the East, and JJ Reddick.. Why, JJ Reddick? Well, he has tons of upside.. And his shooting touch is one of the most needed talents in the L now.. I do think that his performance in most games for Duke last year would translate to more minutes for the Magic and be part of the rotation.. I just hope JJ does not disappoint fans.. He disappointed a lot in the final games for Duke but let us see how he does in the bigger platform.. My real pick if I would choose is Randy Foye.. I was able to see him play in the summer league and he has a good consistent mid range jumpshot plus he is not too shabby in taking it strong to the hole.. Kevin Garnett will be glad Minny got him to help him.. Morrison's cards would be very hot at the on-set.. Sure ako dito.. Kaya mahirap kumuha ng mga autographed cards nito.. If he does really well for the Bobcats, expect his cards to soar in the price guide.. Quote Link to comment
revi
... with regards to my above post, I would just want to share that the first release of cards to feature the new RCs are here.. the 2006-07 Rookie Debut Basketball cards.. Was able to score some RCs of the mentioned release from an opened box, specifically of the ff: 1) Adam Morrison - two cards2) Randy Foye - 23) Rudy Gay - 14) Patrick O Bryant - 1 5) Tyrus Thomas - 26) Saer Sene - 1 7) Brandon Roy - 3 .. and other not yet known rookies from the 06 draft.. This is a good deal considering a rookie card from the set is seeded at 1:3 packs.. that would be around 9 rookies per box.. I got around 15.. and a lot of them are the top 10 picks.. as you can see.. I estimate an Adam Morrison to be at around $10-15 at the least.. The opened box was part of an opened case.. A shop opened the case and just took the autographs.. In other words, kinuha ko ang basura nila.. at ang galing ng basura dahil ang gaganda ng mga rookie cards dun.. That was a steal of a deal!!! Quote Link to comment
