gift_of_game
Correct me if I'm wrong, di ba ang New York Knicks ang pinakamataas ang Value sa lahat ng NBA Teams? Parang nabasa ko ito sa Forbes Magazine eh, nagtataka lang ako kung bakit mataas ang Value ng Team kapag binenta, samantalang hindi naman sila as successful as the Celtics and the Lakers? yup, the Knicks were valued at around $650 million last year. the Lakers were second at around $500 million. this is pretty small considering its football counterparts, the Cowboys and Redskins both top $1 billion. yung value in this case doesn't really hinge on success on the basketball court---it's the size of the market (aside from a few other things that the team owns, like playing venue). but anyway, dun palang medyo llamado na talaga ang Knicks.it doesn't matter as much how good or how bad they do on the court---there will be enough fools lining up to get in and watch anyway. so the bottomline is: kikita pa rin sila. and mind you, as hopeless as the Knicks have been in the past decade or so, each year, most New Yorkers believe without a hint of doubt that their Knicks will be hoisting the cup in June.that's inner city megalomania for you. if this happened to a smaller market, like say Minnesota in KG's last year---tagilid talaga yung franchise. Wins tend to bring the people in (this has been proven by several economists). Star-type players can tickle the fans' fancy for so long but ultimately, wins will dictate attendance. that's why those Grizzlies and Oklahoma whatevers are gonna be moving sooner rather than later---they aren't sustainable at all.
do you ever wonder why New York almost always has 2 teams in all 4 major US sports (NBA's Nets and Knicks, MLB's Yanks and Mets, NFL's Giants and Jets, NHL's Rangers and Islanders)? its because of their huge market, they can dish out any type of contract and still gain a profit.. that's what determines "franchise value" not success on the court.. but as g0g stated, Ws help bring in the people but in the case of NY fans they seem to enjoy booing their guys.. NY may not be as successful as SA, LA or BOS but their franchise is just as storied as the others.. colorful history if you may.. Quote Link to comment

Athough close proximity po ang New York and New Jersey mag kaibang state sila dba? So hindi po valid yung 2 teams ng NY city sa NBA for the past decade, until mag move sila dun lang magkakatotoo..... Speaking of storied franchise nasa NY po yung most storied American Sports Franchise, ang New York Yankees, and it rivals Manchester United in terms of worldwide appeal. So hindi po valid yung 2 teams ng NY city sa NBA for the past decade, until mag move sila dun lang magkakatotoo..... tuloy na yan, 2010 (or so they say). if you want to be technical about it, yes, the Nets have been in NJ for the longest time but again, technically, like the Knicks they're after the same NY-NJ market. and this is what makes the Knicks valuable---their influence straddles across both states (though, yet again, if you want to be technical about it, we can surmise that more than half of their earnings come from metropolitan NY since there a whole lot more people there). the Nets, on the other hand, haven't been able to corner as much of it as hoped which makes this move to Brooklyn perfect---they somehow become a little more relevant in a borough that's been dying to have a team since the Dodgers went out west. and c'mon now, who hasn't heard of the Yankees? bchlee
The only run they has for the past few years was in 1999 i think, when Sprewell was with the New York. They were good but the twin towers, Duncan & Robinson, of the Spurs then was a much better team then. Edited July 8, 2008 by bchlee Quote Link to comment
13Nails
NY and NJ will be fighting hard to clear cap room to sign Lebron via 2010... Lebron is not only one of the best players in the league, he is also one of the most marketable guys in the league. The Cavs will have many sleepless nights come 2010. :thumbsupsmiley: Quote Link to comment
bubuy
brooklyn nets will have the upper hand on lebron.. and im betting everything in my pocket right now (not really that much) that lebron would be out of cleveland when he turns a fa in 2010.. jay-z has been busting his ass trying to influence lebron and befriending him, so.. Parang nabasa ko ito sa Forbes Magazine eh, nagtataka lang ako kung bakit mataas ang Value ng Team kapag binenta, samantalang hindi naman sila as successful as the Celtics and the Lakers? they have rabid and loyal fans in new york even though the knicks has been losing for the last couple of years, still the fans kept coming and still support their team, even had a lot of sell out games..unlike in boston wherein the fans came back because they are winning again and not because they love their team....hehehe d halatang new york fan noh? hehehe peace! ciao out for now Quote Link to comment

sliderule
Been a Knicks fan since they showed those old black and white games on local TV. Willis Reed, Walt Frazier, Dick Barnett, Dave Debbuscher, Bill Bradley and Red Holzman. Best year was the lockout season of 99. If only Ewing was healthy....alas. Another year was when they figured in a brawl with the Heat, and so many players were suspended, they had to stretch the suspensions to 2 matches. In my opinion that was the year NY had their best shot. Which is the reason why P.J. Brown (the ass**** who started the fight) will forever be my hatest player of all time. Quote Link to comment
