Hi Shambala,

Thats a good martial arts background, very colorful too. Don't worry about "authenticity". Although I've studied a few arts that seem to focus on this - unless you're trying to popularize a "new" martial art in the country or trying to earn a reputation (or trying to impress a Babe, hehehe) - in truth, its NOT that important.

Muay thai? UNofficial,.....coz I dont train in a Muay tHaI gym,,..a few kickboxers would go into to the gym and teach me some moves.

Very powerful kicks. Very dangerous. If you got the concept & the nuances for generating power for these kicks plus the headlock - then, thats all you need. A piece of paper on the wall saying "Shambala is an authentic practitioner of Muay Thai" will not help you one bit if you get into a fight. The nuances on the other hand, will.

I also learned some basic INTERNAL Martial ARts, from a very famous YOGI and "energy healer" in thE US,........his name is Master Del Pe......but the focus is mor eon healing, intense meditation and MAKING one's life and others HAPPY!

Very interesting. What Internal Martial Art is this? From the title Yogi, I gather that its Indian? Or is it Tibetan? Does it have "Kundilini" Training? Most important question of all, how do you define "Internal"?

Different people engage in martial arts for varied reasons. Some for self-defense, others sport, others as a hobby, others to lose weight, some for pure health reasons, others for National Pride, some are just war-freaks, some for preservation of the art, some for beauty, some for competition, some for confidence, some for fame or money, some for the spiritual aspects, some for the philosophical, etc. Whatever reason you practice martial arts for... its all good. You have your reasons, and need no justification.

Arnis,..so sad to say that I havent continued na eh,.....I learned some moves from the UP Kali ligthing arnis team,....but that was a long long time ago

I think that they've renamed the group already. UP Lema Lightning or something like that. The word "Kali" has been taken out. It is, afterall - not even a Pilipino word. I've many friends in the group, like John Escudero & Prof Bot Hokano... perhaps their names will sound familiar at the very least. I too practiced very little of this, which is lamentable. But personally, I'm not too interested in weapons. I find it impractical. BUT, this doesn't mean that I don't think its valuable. Because, it is. Just not my cup of tea.

Did you know that Filipinos doing Wu Shu weapons are winning abroad? The trainers & training is happening in Baguio & Cebu.

the focus of the internal ma is mor eon meditation, recitations of MANTRAS( yes I do that 1x or 2x a wekk, even if my sisters say am WEIRD) , a LOT of physical exercises and Breathing.

Oh, going back to the ARNIS thingie,..I AGREE wid yah! It aint rlly that practical to carry weapons these days,..and it aint Practical to train aNd train with juz weapons :mtc:

never too late to start

I wholeheartedly agree with Olympus. Any age is a good age to start martial arts. Personally, I started when I was almost 7 years old. One fellow I've met, started out when he was 52 years old. Now, he is considered a master of his own style and recognized as one of the best fighters that we have.

Having said that however, please note aj oragon that there are some styles which are more suitable for you... based on your age, your body type and even your temperament. Maraming factors yan.

Lets say for example that you're in your mid-40's, even-tempered and middle-weight. A style like Tai Chi might be more suitable for you as opposed to lets say Hsing I. Hsing I tends to favor the young, one-track minded and aggressive individuals (the style is dependent on it).

Likewise, different people practice martial arts for different reasons. If you're into gold medals - then take up something like Judo, Karate, Taekwondo or Wu shu. If you're in it for the spiritual aspect - then maybe Aikido or Kendo would do you justice. If you're into tradition, and want something that is part of a long history na may lineage pa at lahat... Chinese Kung Fu styles might suit you best. Samples would be Choy Li Fut, Hung Gar, Ngo Cho, Zirranmen, 7 Star Mantis, White Crane, etc. Walang kasing galing. If you're into short-term fast results, try looking up combat sciences instead (LINE, SCARS, VIPER, etc). If you're into Health - balik ulit tayo sa Tai Chi - pwede din Rei Ki Ken. Kung gusto mong ala Bruce Lee e di Jeet kun do or Wing Chun. Maraming-marami nyan tulad ng TRACMA, Tapon-do, o kaya'y Hybrid Yaw-yan.

I suggest that you pick-up a RAPID Magazine, basa ka konti para alam mo kung anong mga mayroon. Best to ask Alex Co also, owner of Squadron Shop. Squadron is the biggest (if only) martial arts store in the Philippines. At maraming siyang alam na martial arts - martial arts gyms and teachers. Siya ang main supplyer kasi ng lahat. :)

My style is better than your style... i like this phrase ;). There is no martial arts style that is better than other martial arts style. It really depends on the practitioner. I practice wushu/kung fu but i'm still equally impressed by other style. Although i think its useless for me to learn other style since they all have the same basic principle. Its really how you apply it that makes the difference.

i started training aikido when i was in highschool, started learning bjj and sarian in 1st year college, boxing and kickboxing on 2nd n 3rd yr college and stick and knife technics in 4th year college... seen lot of martial arts and disciplines... all i can say is that all the arts are effective.. theres no such thing as which art is better than the other one... it really depends on the person practicing the art.. how he use it and how he manage to act right when something unexpected happens! great power comes with great responsibility hehehe! peace my fellow mma practitioners!!! train hard
