SaintPeter5858
I am more proficient in written and oral English than Filipino. It depends on one's family culture I guess. If you're born into it, you really can't separate from it especially at a young age. Nonetheless, I learn Tagalog from peers and on the street. Nice to be multilingual Quote Link to comment

sandy51
Bottom line - in the classified ads, how many prospective good jobs do we find that require good Pilipino skills? How many for English? At work, whether in the Philippines or abroad, how many communications are in Pilipino? How many in English? If we do not get a good job because somebody at the DepEd or some politician chose the wrong language, will they pay our lost salaries instead?I never worked in Subic or Clark but when the Senators said that former Filipino base employees would still find jobs, did anyone of them invest their personal funds there to create such an employment?BTW if the measure of nationalism is a distinct language, then the Americans, Canadians, Australians are not nationalistic because they use the language of England. So too, are those in South America because they use Spanish or Portuguese. The worst would be the Swiss who use German, French and Italian.Obviously the theory is very wrong so where does the logic of the politicians and DepEd come from?Another questionable logic for me - we should start the education of children in there own native tongue then move to another language later. That way, they are better prepared. If this logic is true, the children of immigrants do not stand a chance. Obviously wrong again DepEd. And what about the generation of Enrile, Santiago etc who started their education in English? Can we say that these people are incompetent? Compare them with the generation that started with Pilipino.Maybe then the problem with education in the Philippines is the DepEd itself. Edited February 18, 2012 by sandy51 Quote Link to comment

chrispt21
Choosing between English and Tagalog is like choosing between equipping one’s self with a bucket or with a spoon when faced with the job of gathering water from a well. Quote Link to comment
