Seagate... :headsetsmiley:

to our experts in the thread... may i consult you regarding my PC DVD drive (asus 16x DVD optical drive)... i've been noticing lately that it has been rejecting a lot of the CDs, VCDs & DVDs i've been feeding it... this did not happen before... can our experts help me on the following questions...

1. What is the lifespan of a PC DVD Drive? Mine has been in use for at least 2 years now.

2. Can my problem be solved by cleaning the optical lense? If yes, how do you clean it when you can't physically open the drive.

3. From the situation I mentioned, can it be concluded that my optical drive is busted already?

thanks in advance for your assistance... :):):)

1.) Depends on the MT-something of your drive. (It means the maximum number of reads/writes your drive can do reliably...)

2.) Maybe, depends on what your drive's problem is rooted at. If it's just a dirty lens, maybe.

3.) Maybe, it is easier to replace it though than debug the problem... :headsetsmiley:

to the mods...im sorry but i have to ask you this for academic purposes only......

does pirated apple software like ms office work? what are the draw back of installing it.

I am asking this question to discourage a friend who bought pirated software....so there.

I don't even understand the question...

Asus optical drives really wears out fast. :D Based on personal experience and my friend's experience :D Buy something a bit more reliable, Liteon is already tortured tested, so I'm sure you won't have a problem with it :D

Buy a Combo drive, CD-RW or DVD-RW drives, they are a lot more durable and can read most cds and dvds :D

Cleaning it will help, a bit, sometimes, it can make matters worse. Better throw it out, anyway, a new optical drive is cheap nowadays :D

Busted? Hmmm... not entirely, but going there :D

Seagate... but isolate the problem first. Think of a main reason WHY your hdd failed. 1 usual culprit is the psu, generic psu's can harm your system, and therefore, has the capability of killing any part of your rig :D Don't even buy Dynamo for crying out loud :D Its worse than a generic :D hahaha :D

mga tol pa2long naman , ung laptop na gamit ko ngautomatic shutdown once na mg internet explorer ako. I try 2 reinstol the os pero ganon pa din....

Ano po ba lumalabas? NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM po ba ang lumalabas tapos may timer? kung ito po yun. Malamang virus po. Para mapigilan ang pag shutdown click nyo start then run tapos type cmd tapos type shutdown -a. tapos mag scan kayo either online or update kayo antivirus. tapos sa admin tools services click nyo yung remote procedure call tapos under recovery tab makikita nyo yung "restart system" in case of failure, tapos baguhin nyo gawin "take no action". Kung hindi naman ito ang nangyayari. Check nyo rin yung fan nang laptop baka busted na, pag sobra init nagshushutdown. kung blue screen, check nyo po memory and other hardware. Ano pa ba?

Just use the auto-update tool of your computer, If you're using winxp then I guess you haven't installed Service Pack 2 on it yet. The message you are encountering is a winxp vulnerability.

But since your pc shuts down every now and then, follow the instructions of momo_aswang before using autoupdate.

Baka po USB 1.1 yung laptop nyo tapos Strictly USB 2.0 comliance ang External HDD. Usually din kc there's no need to install a driver on external HDD pag XP gamit. baka nung nag install kayo nang non-Xp drivers eh nakasama.

That's one of my problem using removable storagel devices using USB, ex: my flash drive operates w/o any problem for a long time and all of a sudden, winxp does not recognize it. other flash drive can still be detected w/o problem on my pc and my flash works on other PCs. Same issue on card readers also. I think winxp registry gets fouled up by re-detecting the same device in due time.

Anyway you may try this program EzRecover , supposedly it will apply the hotfix for winxp re problems on usb mass storage device problem.

Best Regards
