San Miguel Beer

Speaking of shouting from the stands, I also remember and seeing Ron Jacobs shouting, coaching and helping Jong Uichico when Jong was still coaching for La Salle. I heard him several times yelling to Jong Uichico what offensive and defensive play to call, although too bad La Salle lost the championship at that time.

But, really, hats off to Ron Jacobs! :thumbsupsmiley:

Ron Jacobs, for me the best coach our country has had.

From the NCC, to San Miguel. Jones Cup, tinalo ang US.

I really liked his San Miguel Team with Asaytono, grabe

ang depensa. Iisa ang scorer nya so what they do is

slow down the game and milk the clock. Ung mga malalakas

na team hirap na hirap umiskor, un yata ang time nauso sa

PBA na ang score mataas na pag naka 80 points ka. Instead

na ma bore ka sa pace ng laro, you would appreciate how

they were able to dictate the tempo of the game.

He was also able to bring the best out of his players.

At magaling syang pumili ng tao. He brought Racela to San

Miguel, as well as Abuda and Asaytono. And I don't know

kung paano nya na convince ang Shell to give up Ildefonso

for Castillo, but he did. And I remember sya rin naka spot

kay Jimmy Alapag. Even Hontiveros before he was with Cebu

Gems, UC pa lang sya nun, he's already eyeing the kid un

nga lang ung Cebu Gems sa Tanduay binigay si Hontiveros.

Taga Bacolod ako and if you know Danding is staying in his

Hacienda Candelaria in Pontevedra. Our province are avid

sports fanatics (Negros Slashers, remember?) and we have

this province wide competition back then known as Negros 2000.

Danding's town is a small one and they are not known in sports

much more in basketball. Walang magagaling na players. But

they have Ron Jacobs shouting instructions in the stands, in

short umabot sila sa finals. Kaya lang malakas na naka laban

nung finals at halftime pa lang 20 na lamang nung kabila. Si

Danding pinababa na si Ron. Second half sya nag coach and

nanalo sila by 10. Dahil kay Jacobs nagkagulo ang mga Mayor

pati ang Yearly competition na un natigil na rin. Ganun sya kalakas...

what can I say about the guy... he breathes basketball...

the reason why he is a great coach is because he's a great teacher...

players have this great belief in him... and the system he uses...

ahhh the famous ildefonso-castillo switch!

actually he didn't have to make a lot of convincing... he just had to play mind games with shell

he knew shell really didn't want ildefonso because they had paras back then (they just wanted to be able to get abuda... it was his mvp year I think... he just had to be patient and play the waiting game with them... pretend he was more happy with noy (add to that some comments that he'd be the next allan caidic and all...) than ildefonso then shell cracks and triggers the trade with smb :D yung kay hontiveros naman ang reason why he wanted the guy so much was because he saw samboy and jojo (lastimosa) in this guy... a slasher with a deadly perimeter game add to that his defense and could even shift to PG if necessary... and he really wanted him bad! He even managed to pry him away from the cebu gems... so offended was lhuiller back then that he let go of Hontiveros to the pba only for the sole condition that he would not join smb reason why he was sent to Tanduay! :) yun nga lang nung nag-disband ang tanduay he was traded to smb...

regarding the alapag story... eto wala na akong alam... as far as I can remember he was a walk-in or something?!

or was he referred by the friend of Ron Jacobs? I forgot his name... sya pa nga yung nagbigay ng info abt Caguioa...

Paul Howard ata... haha! baka mali... going back... it seems quite funny why Jong didn't pick Jimmy back then kung gusto talaga sya ni Ron Jacobs... I mean they picked Marlon Legaspi and where is he now? Shucks... as early as that time they were preparing na for Olsen kung bkit lang nila di kinuha si Jimmy remains as one of the biggest mystery to me! I even placed a bet on the freaking draft pick... that smb chooses Jimmy Alapag! oh well...

Yes! 5 straight wins na!!!!

uy! smb fan ka pala! :D
