Mac Users Of Mtc (apple: Go Ahead, Take A Bite!)

mac users... i need your advice. So I have an old MBP early 2011. I was using it for graphic design until one day it just died. I took it to a shop (not an apple store because it is already out of warranty) and they said it is the video card. it is stuck in the apple logo screen and the logo is pixelated. they said they can't fix it because most of the time, the issue with the video card will just happen again.

anybody who experienced the same thing? am i better off getting a new laptop? (ouch!). the mac is still dead. :( and I'm using an old windows laptop.

A bit of unsolicited advice here: The tech's right, the symptoms definitely points to a hardware problem - could be the video card, or worst, a logic board problem na. Akshali, there are methods that you can do to try and fix it temporarily pero just like you were told, they are no guarantees and the issue just might randomly happen again.

Magiging problema mo dito isn't just the cost of repair alone but the availability of spare parts for the specific model you have. Just for the trouble alone, I'd say just save up for a new laptop.

You can, for the meantime, remove the hard drive from the mac then get yourself a 2.5 enclosure from CDR king tapos use it as external HD na lang, pwede mo pa ma-recover yung files mo.

Yeah. I'm saving up for a new laptop now. I'm using an old windows laptop for the meantime. What's a good mac built for heavy usage with big screen? sabi kasi nung sa shop, my mac is not built for the abuse I gave it (i use it 16-20 hours a day). Or i might just need to really go back to windows as that seems like the cheaper option for now.

Any computer can withstand heavy usage, magkakatalo lang on the purpose you're using it for. It don't matter kung windows or mac ka, if you're gonna use it extensively for graphics design/animation/rendering,etc then saksakan mo ng atleast 6GB RAM tapos high capacity HDD yan kasi resource hog ang mga applications na gagamitin mo. Personally, I'd still stick with a MAC because maganda ang default color calibration nya.

For the price of a single MBP right now, you're better off sticking with a standard windows rig muna then just upgrade the parts. With careful and constant maintenance, future proof na yan may sukli ka pa. B)

Mga brader, patulong naman

I wan't to have the battery of my macbook air replaced paguwi sana ng pilipinas.

Kaso yun nga kelangan talaga bilhin yun mismong battery. Madali naman pagbukas eh. Me kinokontak ako sa me ortigas, sabi wala daw sila battery at dahil pasko at clogged sa customs, matatagalan din at di nila maguarantee kung kelan ito darating.

Minsan pag nakaplug matagal laptop, ayaw bigla mag on. Ever since ina-unplug ko na. "Service Battery" na yun nakalagay sa message kasi. Kaya yun battery life nya sobrang umikli na 1-1 1/2 hours pa lang. Less than 3 years pa lang sya sakin.

Hope you guys can help, I appreciate it.

Ang mahirap kasi dito sa pinas is piyesa talaga considering mac pa yan at laptop pa. More on desktop users kasi ang karamihan so makatsamba ka man ng parts, malamang tatagain ka sa labor at baka pati sa duration ng repair. Di rin worth it.

I can only think of three options para dyan: 1.) contact the official service center for apple; 2.) check apple online if they can sell you just the battery alone tapos DIY ka na lang or 3.) bago ka pa umuwi ng pinas ipagawa mo na dyan

You can take you chances in getting your battery replaced dito sa pinas pero ingat na lang din. And before you do, i would strongly suggest to back up your files before letting someone else open it up, mahirap na baka biglang maglaho files mo ng di mo namamalayan.

My important files are usually in my work laptop which I do not travel with.

On top of your MBAir, you could also bring USB with your documents in it and lagay ka na rin ng backup copies sa email mo para siguradong hindi mawawala yan in time for your presentation di ba? that's what I usually do hehe...

updated ba OS ng air mo? yung MBP ko naka snow leopard pa rin up to now since i got it in SG 4 yrs ago. Stable for intended purpose.

Pag ganyang may signs of frequent lag or hanging, kelangan mo na nga ibackup files mo then papalitan na ng hard drive yan. Sooner or later it will give in. My MBP's running on the regular HDD lang hindi SSD, upgraded pa to 1TB & 8GB RAM when i first got it kaya isa rin sigurong dahilan kung bakit bihira bumagal or topakin.

Di ako masyado nagso-software update lol. Something aint broke don't fix it kind of person ako hahaha. Sobrang kelangan ba yun?

Wala naman daw class A for mac, lahat original, mga a little above 4k price ok na.

But right now, I am thinking na baka ilang months pa, bili na lang ako ng macbook pro. Any of you guys wanna recommend kung ano ok?

The funny thing is, itong macbook air ko is not my work laptop. Tapos ito pa nagkaproblema in less than 2 years. Pag me travels syempre ito ideal dalhin. I sometimes use it din as my presentation laptop.

That's the thing, dalawa talaga dapat laptop mo. Isang pangtrabaho, at isang pang leisure lang. Para di ka nagkakakakunsumisyon.

Kahit ako, not much into software update lalo na sa computers. Sa case ng apple, everytime an update comes around, something definitely gets screwed up. Mapa-iOS devices man or mac line up nila proven ko na yan. Yung nag iisang MBP ko is yung late 2008 unibody model pa, bought it second hand with upgraded HDD and memory, sobrang ingat na ingat ko sya and it never failed on me at all. It still runs on snow leopard.

Ayoko matulad sa MBP ng pinsan ko na in-update nga nya pero halos lahat ng lumang software nya hindi tumakbo sa yosemite hehe..kaya ako I stayed with what I have kasi gumagana pa naman. Sa kaso ko kasi, if i attempted to update, no choice but to fully reformat my MBP, ayoko gawin kasi matrabaho, nakakapagod din mag setup ulit no?

Its the heat issue regarding mba, kasi nga compact. You could only put so much in so little space. Btw, got a late 2008 c2d mbp , 1tb ssd, 8gb ram and a mid 2010 i7 mbp on two 500gb ssd, 8gb ram.

Also looking out for Ableton live 9+ or Fl Studio for mac...
