In CAT, a friend of mine who was also an officer reprimanded me for talking to her as if we were just hanging out. From then on, I saw her differently during CAT sessions. Although initially taken aback, I realized that as an officer she had to take our drills seriously, and I admire her for having the courage to know when to get down to business. Many of our peers thought the officers were on an ego trip during formations, calling them names behind their backs. They were wondering what the big deal was because it's just another subject. They believed that the officers took great pleasure in throwing their weight around. I think CAT is an opportunity to develop leadership skills, and in this particular setting, maintaining firm control of your unit is the main exercise. Of course, most of us would rather goof around, so the officers had their work cut out for them. Gaining our cooperation required discipline, and the only way they could accomplish this was by punishing those who disobeyed orders. It was very effective.

I ended up being in charge of our platoon's flag because the officers thought I had the proper bearing. At one of our formations, even the officers were made to do push ups because of a foul up. The flag bearers were the only ones left standing. It was a strange feeling to be exempted from punishment, but I guess you can say it was just our luck to be in that position.

My most memorable moment in ROTC came when we had our familiarization firing. Each of us bought a round of ammunition and shot at a wall once the order was given. When done in unison, the noise of an M-16 fired by people just an arm's length away is tolerable. The person on my left didn't follow orders, though, and kept shooting even when we were told to stop firing. As a result, my left ear went deaf for almost a month. I was very relieved when I finally regained my sense of hearing.

CAT

Nagprotesta kami lead by the judge/lawyer and walang nagawa yung commandant ng school namin. Hindi raw nakukuha sa buhok ang discipline.

ROTC/CMT 11

mind you.. yung sinasabi mong 'chato' is (7x11) not (2x3). the regulation haircut for regular cadets is supposed to be (3x4). I'm sorry about your lousy experience with your ROTC. There were some people who do power-trip.

As for your CAT hangup... and protesting about haircut... it was actually your fault sice haircut nalang, hindi pa nag comply. that IS definitely as manifestation of a lack of discipline. on the other hand, having non-regulation hair cut should not have merit failure in the course (the officers, which were the once really grading you were to blame).

Its just sad that the CAT & ROTC, which are intitutions that should promote and uphold civic welfare duties and responsibilities to cadets, have greatly been tarnished and degraded by people (specially power-tripping & power-hungry officials) that run this system. I just wish that they should stand firm and live by the principles that they have sworn to teach and live by. -- although I'm not saying that there aren't any CAT & ROTC corps that still plant their guidon firm.

Just thought I'd voice out my opinion

commandant: "ok cadets, pag tapon ko, count one...two...three tapos dapa!!"

cadets(kame): "sir yes sir!"

commandant: tinangal ang pin "on the count of three..one..two..three!" sabay tapon ng granada

commandant: "wala na talaga kayo pag-asa!!, drop and give me 20!!"

i know many would disagree but i see the CAT & ROTC as useless and a waste of time. some say it's a way to hone discipline. it's baloney. there are other hundred ways to develop self-discipline. CAT & ROTC officership is just a scapegoat for low self-esteem students who enjoys a false sense of power. this is where they can get back at their adversaries since they can't do so in the real world. besides, with so much corruption within the organization, what credibility could they boast? WHAT DISCIPLINE? they themselves are corrupt so how would you expect someone to teach discipline when they themselves don't have any?

i never attended CAT & ROTC. i would never subject myself to false power. ;)

  • 1 month later...

I agree.. 100%..

I tried not attending.. kaso hindi pwede eh. Kasi during my time, nahuli at natanggal yung binabayaran namin.. So I was forced to attend..

Ang pinakanakakatawa dito ay nung tinuturuan kami ng different kinds of knots.. ito yata ang waterloo ko eh.. kasi hirap na hirap ako.. galit na galit sa akin yung mga officers kasi hindi ko talaga makuha eh.. hehehehe! waste of time talaga.. :thumbsdownsmiley:

. Grades ko 1.5

MS 22

Halos hindi na ako pumasok (as in mas marami absent ko kesa pinasok ko) at kung pumasok man ay nagpapapull out at itinatago sa library ng barkada ko na Commanding Officer at Battalion officers . . . Grades ko 1.25.

Saka ganda ng gupit ko nun . . siete lang

Pero personally in my opinion it was just a waste of my time . . .
