Linux Anybody?

grabe sumuko na ata ang mga laptop manufacturer sa microsoft. kaso i prefer either asus or acer na laptop na wala pang 10inch ang monitor. i really need that small thing. pero ang pinaka nakakatuwa natutunan na din ng acer na makitie up sa linux. anyway thanks sa growing population ng linux user dito.

Ah. What I'm referring to as Intel PRO 3945ABG is the WIFI chip, not the processor. Sa Aspire One ata Atheros yung gamit for WIFI. WIFI will not run on Ubuntu's first boot. You have to install drivers pa.

 

Pero try mo muna Linpus lite. User friendly rin daw yan. Sabi nila mabilis magboot ang linpus.

 

Pero if ever you want switch to Ubuntu, here's a guide:

is there's a way na ma manual define yung USB ports para kahit mag restart eh sa kanya pa din naka assign yung port na nagamit mo ng una?

 

i think that all depends on your usb device/driver, or kernel version. used a usb gsm modem nad the device maps perfectly on a /dev/ttyUSBx.

 

take a look at your "dmesg | grep hci" and /dev/ttyUSB* or /dev/ttyS* for some hints.

AMD dual core with onboard LAN. "loopback interface" ang nakalagay sa network interface

 

ayaw mag eth0. nagpost nako sa ubuntu forums inisnab lang hehe

 

dito naman siguro hindi :lol:

 

help would be much appreciated, TIA

Hmm... onboard LAN should work "out-of-the-box".

In terminal type "lspci". the LAN chipset should be listed there. Paste here the output.

make sure the correct driver of the "onboard lan" is loaded. its probable that ubunto do not support your lan out of the box, check the board manual and load the correct driver.

it seems ubuntu knows what the eth0 contoller is, it lists a name for both usb and ethernet controllers.

will post the whole output when i get home.

 

 

try restarting eth0

1. open up a terminal window

2. type in "sudo ifdown eth0" {ENTER} (of course minus the quotes)

3. type in "sudo ifup eth0" {ENTER}

 

the terminal returned: "command cannot be found". i typed it without quotes po.

 

make sure the correct driver of the "onboard lan" is loaded. its probable that ubunto do not support your lan out of the box, check the board manual and load the correct driver.

 

maybe you're on to something sir. do you have an idea where to get the drivers?

i mean the proper drivers on the cd that came with the board are for the windows OS, not linux

so i have to get a tarball of the driver right?

you'll rarely need to download and recompile network drivers, chances are you (or the distro) already have them installed (/lib/modules/<kernel version>). post your "lspci" and "uname -r" output to give us more info.

 

or.... it's also possible that the drivers are loaded and the interface is not activated, please post output from "ip l l" --> india papa space lima space lima

 

btw, my replies are non-distro specific :)

Am already in the process of saving the files for Ubuntu, but I'm not sure if I'll be committed just yet. Maybe when I upgrade my hdd to 750gb, I'll install it and see how it works.

 

Subukan mo muna LiveCD bro. Pag nagustuhan mo saka mo lang install sa hdd.

 

Try mo Slack KillBill, pwede install windo$e apps.

lomex, i'm not really a rhel fan, or rh/fedora for that matter. I find books from Prentice Hall and O'Riley publishing a lot more detailed compaired to other published materials.

 

i don't remember buying distro specific books, i usually read materials specific to the topics (tcp/ip, perl, etc) tldp.org is still the best source for linux docs imho.

looks like you have a realtek 8139 based nic, fairly popular one. the driver comes default with linux called "rtl8139".

 

this command loads the driver: modprobe rtl8139

this brings up the interface: ip link set eth0 up

this assigns the ip address: ip addr add 10.161.1.120/16 brd + dev eth0 (replace with your IP address)

and the default gateway: ip route add default via 10.161.1.254 dev eth0 (replace with your gateway)

 

just to make sure things are in order: ip adrr list (sample output below)

 

1: eth0: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast qlen 1000

link/ether 00:11:95:c0:c9:9d brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

inet 10.161.1.120/16 brd 10.161.255.255 scope global eth0

 

let us know if that worked.

don't worry, your eth0 is up!!! driver is probably built into the kernel

 

command: ip link set eth0 up

output:

guess you're lacking root privileges
