Manny Pacquiao, TALO!!!

Manny Pacquiao talo kay Rustico Torrecampo by Knockout!!! Heheheheh!!!

Ano na sunod kay Manny Pacquiao ngayon? Takot sya lumaban kay Marquez eh...

it's actually the other way around...

I dont think anyone in the current division will win over pacman. He should move up a division to face those that are the best. We just hope Pacquiao will not be distracted by the celebrity status he is now in. He got only a good couple of years ahead of him and he is not getting any younger. Fresh legs will sure come up the stage and challenge him.

Much better to move at lightweight rather stay sa superfeatherweight. on the last weight-in vs barrera, Pacman looks exhausted at umamin na hirap syang kunin yung 130 lbs limit.

If sa lighweights a better future for the Pacman...

Mexico’s Barrerun backpedals into the sunset

October 10, 2007 03:29:00

Recah Trinidad

Inquirer

LOS ANGELES -- Mexico’s Marco Antonio Barrera should’ve put up a fighting final stand instead of dance that cutesy waltz to the sunset last Saturday (Sunday in Manila).

Rather than endlessly retreat, he should’ve figured in a screaming farewell shootout, with both fists blazing, against Manny Pacquiao in the Nevada Desert.

Sorry, but it was only after having successfully avoided a brutal confrontation that Barrera was able to leave the prizefight stage with his handsome profile intact.

The war script, written with the blood and tears of Emiliano Zapata Julio Cesar Chavez, called for a yours-or-mine, no-tomorrow slug-out.

* * *

You know what?

If Pacquiao, certified fearless warrior, had, say, done something resembling the cheap manner Barrera had run his way to retirement, the Filipino superstar would’ve surely gotten more than his share of rotten tomatoes from adoring countrymen.

But, wow, instead of jeers, Barrera received a big ovation for his soft, indecisive stand before gullible countrymen in Las Vegas last Saturday.

Yes, Barrera got applauded despite having unwittingly given Mexican machismo a sissy ring to it.

* * *

To uphold the degeneration, there was the great Oscar De La Hoya to embrace Barrera with a wild ovation as he entered the over-filled media hall at Mandalay Bay Hotel nearly an hour after his bout with Pacquiao.

It’s not easy to determine how Golden Boy wove the magic.

It was a final scene out of great Indian-Cowboy war movies.

There, all of a sudden, was the hero, whom De La Hoya would refer to as Gran Campeon, aglow, beaming like a debutante, under the blinding pop and flash of cameras.

Barrera also wore his red badge of courage -- a tiny wound under his puffed left eye.

* * *

His handler, Tony Rivera, would proudly claim that, if not for a headbutt, Barrera would’ve finished the bout clean, unscathed.

What headbutt? What did he mean clean?

For the record, Pacquiao tried his best to play it clean all throughout.

It was however Barrera who had to bend truly low when he sneaked in a foul right hand off a break.

This was late in the 11th round, Pacquiao had just ripped in a thunder-clap combination, and it had become clear that, if not for the dirty shot that merited a point deduction, Barrera would’ve been crushed cold.

* * *

Anyway, these sordid details should’ve been similarly flushed off together with all the pre-fight debris.

But, come to think of it, didn’t Barrera also make claims earlier that Filipinos would be in for a shock?

Well, Barrera may have indeed been better prepared on Saturday than when he got mangled by Pacquiao in Texas four years ago.

But as to the claim that his one-sided loss at Mandalay Bay had sufficiently plucked the thorn in his side planted by Pacquiao following that 11th round knockout, Barrera is hereby advised to check again.

* * *

It’s like this. Barrera on Saturday survived another ordeal without having to beg on his knees.

Great. But did he really put up a gallant, noble fight?

The answer would be properly provided by a small group of chanting Filipino fans in the upper box section, who also succeeded in re-Christening the once fearless Barrera.

There were deafening cries of Barre-RUN, Barre-RUN, Barre-RUN, from the Filipino group under the baton of real estate expert Ferdi Dalope, as the rounds wore on.

Marco, the Baby-faced Assassin, was shocking enough as he earned a new name while back-pedalling to the final sunset of an otherwise glorious career.

P308-M payday for Pacquiao

October 10, 2007 03:02:00

Inquirer

LAS VEGAS -- Manny Pacquiao earned a whopping $7 million (about P308 million) from his recent fight with Mexican legend Marco Antonio Barrera, according to a source close to the Filipino ring celebrity.

The source, who is part of Pacquiao’s entourage in the United States, said the hard-hitting southpaw collected as much as $3 million in prize money, $2 million from United States pay-per-view sales and another $2 million from his share of the local pay-per-view pie.

The fight’s co-promoters, Top Rank and Golden Boy Promotions, officially pegged Pacquiao’s fight purse at $2 million.

The source, however, said Pacquiao was assured of an amount “very close to $3 million” after his abrupt decision to train for the Barrera fight in Cebu two months ago.

Meanwhile, the Pacman could be headed to more mega-buck bouts, triggering a scramble among a slew of elite fighters to book a ticket opposite the Filipino.

Another Team Pacquiao source said there are plans to increase to at least four per year the number of times he fights in the next two years. And the cash windfall he normally gets from his fights could turn into a hurricane.

The leading candidate as Pacquiao’s next foe, though, is World Boxing Council lightweight champ David Diaz.

“I would like to go up to the 135-lb division and challenge David Diaz for his WBC title,” Pacquiao told Filipino reporters after a Mass was said Monday inside his suite on the 61st floor of The Hotel at the Mandalay Bay.

“Then I could go down anytime to 130-pounds to fight anybody,” he added, opening the doors to a possible rematch with WBC super featherweight king Juan Manuel Marquez.

It is the fight against Diaz, though, that promises a hefty payday for the Pacman.

Former Pacquiao manager Shelley Finkel said -- after the Filipino won his match against Erik Morales in November last year -- that hurdling Barrera would serve as the Pacman’s ticket to multimillion fight deals. He also said Pacquiao could be eligible for $5 million paydays.

The other fighters who want to be Pacquiao’s next foe include WBA superfeatherweight champ Edwin Valero, WBO superfeatherweight king Joan Guzman, WBA lightweight champ Juan Diaz, WBO lightweight king Michael Katsidis, and even WBA featherweight champ Chris John of Indonesia.

it's actually the other way around...

money!

yan ang dahilan!

almost all set na ang laban nila pero humirit kampo ni Marquez na ang gusto nila ang bayaran is 70%-30% ang bayad. 70% kay Marquez at 30% kay Barrera! hello!!! sino ba pinapanood ng tao? si Marquez ba o si Pacman. tignan mo turn-out ng laban ni Barrera at Marquez, may nanood pero mostly kaya sila nanood ay dahil kay Barrera and not because of Marquez.

Manny plans to retire in about two years and plans to fight around 3 fights a year. So that leaves around 6 fights left in his career. The next few fights should HAUL IN the big bucks that his illustrious career deserve. Manny is the "paycheck fighter" of the moment. Has everyone forgotten? He does not even hold a world title belt! Such is the legend that Manny has made. He is Mike Tyson -- but classier, and deserving of the respect he gets!

meron akong napanood na TV interview kay Pacman the day after the fight...

tinanong nung pinoy reporter about the possibility of a Marquez fight...

he answered jokingly..."if the price is right..."

instead of being offended, i actually admired pacquiao even more when he said that...

he recognizes himself as human...na meron ding needs and desires (just like the rest of us)

with that one line...he said it all.

he is not the shining beacon of hope you are trying to push down our throats...

he is but a simple man with a big heart. SO LET HIM BE!

These boxers are professionals... they are more in it for the money than the belt :P

exactly! if your winning.. who needs a belt anyways? malaking sacrifice sa boxer ang lumaban, pero trabaho nila yun. so right din nila to choose when and who to fight IF the price is right.

Recent News Pacman will not go to Manila for Hero's Welcome rather accepts invitation from Former Mayor Lito Atienza of DENR.

Sports & Politics $uck$

haha! tablado ba? eh obvious namang maka atienza si manny.

Again, I am a BIG PACMAN fan... but for crissakes, enough of this over-the-top mad adulation!!!

Again, I LOVE PACMAN.

Well its called milking the cow to the bone.

But don't worry as soon as Manny Hangs up his boxing gloves, the Atienzas will stop giving manny a blow-job.

Fact is, even the people that cheer for him right now will probably even forget he ever existed when that happens.

Lets just hope that manny will retire on top of his game, and he will move up to better things in life. Sana nga ituloy nya yung sinabi nyang gusto nya magtapos ng pagaaral.

But I'd still have give it to Pacman (diehard fan talaga... hehehe). And even with all this adulation, the guy is pretty LEVEL-HEADED... much more than one would expect, given his background. As for the Atienzas? Well... Manny shows "loyalty"... these f#&kers might not deserve it, but Manny is loyal nonetheless.

I doubt Manny would ever become penniless. Dami na nyang investments. House in Paranaque, Gensan, and I believe in the US? His DEVOUT CATHOLICISM. Kaya nga't "he may stray from the straight and narrow path... but never too far".

ikaw yun....you probably have a decent job...and you have other things to do in life..maybe you have cable Tv or access to the Internet...yun mga yun kasi wala eh :)

It just so happens that Manny gives em the reason to be happy...despite of... :) :thumbsupsmiley:

Peace....

NO problem Floatingchords. To each his own nga. I covered sports (as a reporter for around 10 years). I've interviewed and rubbed elbows with Lydia de Vega, Elma Muros, Eric Buhain, Onyok Velasco, etc. Again, I emphasize, I am a FAN.

Kasi napapansin ko kay Pacman pag dating kay Marquez eh "if the price is right na"

Alalahanin mo there was Luisito espinosa, Mike Tyson, and Leon Spinks. It may not even be a matter of fact, but a matter of time. But Im giiving the pacman, the benefit of the doubt here. Sana nga marunongsiyang mag-alaga ng pera nya.

But the thing he should be worried about are the company he keeps. It happened to Julius Ceasar, It happened to Joseph Estrada, and it can happen to him. Remember his lawyers f#&ked him in that top rank golden boy deal? Pano mas swapang yung abugado kesa sa cliente. Remember also malacañang f#&ked him also with that refund on his campaign expenses. Not to mention his campaign managers stole money from him.

That is not accounting his life style of gambling pa. Because if not it will be his end, all because he gave "loyalty" to the wrong people.

I do hope ituloy nya yung plano nya mag-aral. Education will definetly do him good. Personally, I dont want him to end up as a washed up prized fighter
