Fuel Saving Tips

Recommended Posts

grabe na mahal ng gasolina ngayon no? in a few months, the cost has risen by almost 20% already and it seems that there's no end in sight. meron ba kayong mga tips para makatipid sa consumption ng gasolina? ako meron isa, i read in the inquirer that upshifting once the tachometer reaches 2000 rpm results in lower consumption. and when i tried it, it worked! my usage has dropped by more than 40%.

i also want to try the energy-saving device for gasoline-fed vehicles called khaos. has anybody tried it? ano masasabi nyo?

- unload unnecessary junk of your trunk. more weight means more work for your car to push/pull itself thus more fuel burned.

- uninstall overhead carrier (if u have 1 installed) when not being used as it creates aerodynamic drag.

- make sure your tires are properly inflated with manufacturer settings.

- dont put your aircon thermostat in full setting (coldest) all the time (esp at night).

- on a stop/go traffic, use the car's momentum to reach the next stop light / intersection (ex, by going to neutral/depressing clutch after ample acceleration). anticipate next stopping point to avoid abrupt stopping.

- avoid abrupt acceleration.

- the shortest distance between 2 points is a line. try to maintain a straight line while driving.

- avoid installing "fast and the furious" types of bodykits / spoilers / flairings. they add weight and aero drag and they dont really make your car faster (come to think of it, a 400hp BMW sedan doesn't have wings in it, does it?). if u insist in putting this stuff in your car (worthless junk IMO), install one that's at least light or one that was at least developed using a wind tunnel (bet u cant find one of these).

- avoid installing aftermarket wheel/tires thats: 1. to heavy 2. wrong size (2 big/2 small/2 wide). the wider the tire, the more rolling resistanse it has. it's a compromise b/w grip. IMHO, stock tire sizes are best suited for max fuel effeciency.

- dont neglect periodic maintenance (change oil, etc). a sound car is an effecient car.

- they say that when pumping in fuel, pump it slowly so that "air" would not be counted in the meter's indicator. -- not sure if this is true, just a tip i got from a taxi driver. anyway, there's no harm is practicing this.

as for fuel saving devices (like khaos, aerogas), i'm still skeptical about it. cars today are pretty sensitive so installing one on them is risky, IMO. i have heard testimonial from some, yet some dont actually experience much difference. it's still your choice if u want one installed. but for me, i'd stay away for a while until i see much evidence that it really works.

yung khaos kasi is an environmental invention. ok sya sa pagbabawas ng carbon emissions. but for saving fuel, di sya always effective sa lahat ng kotse. first of all, di sya pwede sa diesel engines. pag-gasolina lang ito. second, mas effective sya sa mga old cars. third, you see the results after a few months of using it. matagal pa actually bago mo mapansing bumabawas ang konsumo mo sa gasolina.

COST: 6,500

merong bagong produkto sa market - fuel max (for sedans/vans) and super fuel max (for trucks). ina-ionize DAW niya mga molecules para walang masayang. di ba ang tubig nagiging ice through the same process? nagkakabit-kabit ang molecules so less spillage, wastage. but i haven't tried this yet.

COST: 3,500

a tip:

walk if you can. marami kasing tao, konting distance lang, would try to drive their cars on their errands.

example: within makati area, most of guys here walk. from our office in RCBC Plaza to landmark to glorietta, to legaspi village.

helps conserve fuel. helps burn calories.

...right now, to save gas (or at least, fuel cost), i COMMUTE... :D lakas konsumo, makati-cavite-makati, considering traffic pa... damn...

...also, same here, around 4,000K (+-) ang gastos ko... grrrrrr... so i commute na lang... tulog ka pa sa byahe... hehehe...

...well, as for the topic, consider replacing your spark plugs every around 15,000 km... and, your fuel filter, baka di na ok, nakakaapekto definitely... also, the fuel pumps, especially fuel injected cars, baka di na nagba-backflow yung excess fuel, sayang ang pagka fuel injected ng auto nyo...\

...just my 2 cents :D ...

i read in a motoring segment of a broadsheet that a good way to conserve fuel on a drive is by switching off the engine on an empty stretch. make sure it's safe to, it said. nothing could've been more idiotic. suppose your tire blows out? or all four at the same time in a freak occurence? your braking system's hydraulics won't be there to help you. can't believe that contributor even wrote that article. this was a 'test-drive' of an auv (not as stable as sedans) brand-new model measuring its efficiency. sure, save on gas while imperiling your life as well. hello? drive defensively at all times, remember? stupid writer.

ako nga mga 5K pa in a month ang gasolina ko until i tried the driving tip i read sa inquirer; yung mag upshift ka before the tach reaches 2000 rpm. ewan ko kung ano ang implications in the long term, pero right now, my gas consumption is down to less than 4K! i hope wala namang negative effect. the only consequence right now is madali na ko masingitan ng mga hinayupak na jeep at taxi kasi nga mabagal na ko magaccelerate.

you're right! what an idiotic article!

aside from the brakes, you will have a hard time steering yourself off danger since your power steering wont be working.

if u wanna save gas, commute! or ride a bike. or walk. or carpool. or buy a vehicle that guzzles up minimal gas (like a kia picanto  or a honda jazz)

if only the government do something to make public commuting an inhorrible experience, we'll be saving a lot of gas... but they too are idiots.

hmm... talaga? magpalagay nga ng RPM meter. magkano bang damage magpalagay nito? grabe pare ha? 5k! dami na nating makukuhang chix niyan ah...

Once in a while, it will never hurt to go neyond 80kph at 5th gear. It could save you on sparkplugs and helps your engine burn off carbon
