  1. Thanks for the compliments.

Yes, its Acupat. And yes, its from Trumpeter's 2005 US Army kit. Ive always wondered why they included a PVC bust in the kit. Its very difficult working with it and painting it.

    Doc,

The clubhouse is located in Pasig. The RC track got a significant amount of space (thanks to quite a number of members buying their demolition derby RC cars, which mostly replaced the enthusiasm for airsoft, hehehehe!), but the working/meeting area is big enough to accommodate the meetings. The models shelves are also mounted on the walls beside the RC track, and at any rate, the meetings usually spill over the track as well.

  2. Share ko na rin this thingy I made about a month ago. Im trying my hand on vignettes; its something I never really got around to doing.

  3. Just want to share our new clubhouse.

Its got an RC track (you should see the drifting they do in here), display shelves for members' models, and a library.

  4. Sir, what happens to the super glue when baking soda is sprinkled over it? Does it dry faster?

I dabbled with this several years ago. The only thing I can say about the superglue-baking soda combination is: DONT!

The mix creates some sort of oxidation that, over the years, will ruin everything around it, especially the paint.

Superglue per se may take longer to dry and may be less hard than a mixture with baking soda, but it doesnt have after effects.

  5. Correct me if I'm wrong but a tritool is a set of saw blades sold by Hasegawa. It's used for cutting and scribing plastic.

    Tama ba Allan?

    Jun

Correct. But it also includes sets of scribing templates, which I got. I already have the PE cutting saw from the Hase Dauntless kit, so I went for the templates.

  6. Hi Allan,

How are you doing my friend? I hope all is fine. It's been a while since we've talked.

I think I may have struck a tender nerve here. Honestly, I was just reacting to Dr. Pepper's comment. I'm sorry if you thought I was insinuating anything. I was not... I just following the thread of conversation at the time. So let's leave it at that.. Next topic... :flowers:

I'm glad to hear got just came back from your Singapore trip safely. Business trip? :thumbsupsmiley:

It's a little difficult to find models over there because the shops are not as well stocked as Hong Kong and they are quite pricey. The food is great though... especially the steamed fish in the Chinatown area. Las time I tried the steamed grouper and the fish was great - a little big but great!

    See you around pre!

    Jun

Business. But in between meetings we get free time, which was promptly used up to scout local hobby shops, or to whet curiousities and see the insides of adult shops.

    :D

Actually, I have always had trouble with foreign food. Especially in Bangkok, where everything tastes Thai, even the Japanese restaurants. Nothing like local dishes, I say.

Yes, the LHS are not as well-stocked as HK, but they do have a few items not available in HK and here as well. So that was a pleasant surprise.

  7. Hi Herr Boelcke, I'm afraid I'm the one responsible for dredging up that old issue. The opinions stated here are entirely my own, and as I have said, I have friends in both camps. Sorry about that.

On another note, I would love to see what kind of hobby stuff you were able to get in the Lion City. And I hope the pictures you post will have some girls in them. I will probably fly to Malaysia later this year and I'll ask some of the Malaysian based modelers which places to hit.

No worries, Doc. What happened in the past cant be changed. But it doesnt help if some people dwell on it.

Theres a good chance these people will post a reply to my post and that would in turn spark a never ending debate in this thread. But Im not falling for it.

I dont know about you guys, but Ive gotten tired of repeating the same old debate we had back in the days. At this point its all just bringing out dirty linen. Makes us all look bad.

Its been 5, 6 years? Lets all get over that.

  8. Sir, you do have to take into consideration that IPMS BAC is "the home of the best modelers in the Philippines".

If someone claims to be the best, chances are they are only looking for the best.

So if you are just a happy-go-lucky modeler like me, then you may not be what they are looking for.

Anyhow our doors are open 24/7 as long as you aren't an axe murderer! hehehehe

Take care mate and happy modeling!

And youre all experts on what IPMS-Bert Anido is looking for?

Damn it, thats what I mean about bringing garbage into this thread. People say stuff like that and then play coy like they didnt mean anything about it.

Please, dont assume people here have a limited IQ.

  9. The monicker "Home of the Best Modelers in the Philippines" seems a little too boastful for my taste. I honestly believe that if you must put a statement out, then you must have something to back it up.

    Jun

And you dont think we do?

    Wow.

Funny meeting you here, Jun. And funny seeing you still strutting the same old thing. We had more than 700 entries in our last Nationals. We got major model manufacturers backing up our shows. You dont think we can back that up?

Tell you what. Check out the entire thread and you wont see any derogatory remark on IPMS Manila coming from me. So why dont you just cool it with your homily, and if you want to discuss models per se leave it at that. Dont bring that garbage here.

    Allan A.

    Yeah. Its me.

  10. I ran out of space. Looks like the wings will have to be put back in various parts of the house.

Im quite certain you have far more models than that consigned to Roel's Market Market store.

    :thumbsupsmiley:

Btw, Roel also maintains a store in Makati Cinema Square. There are more models there.

  11. Hey that's nice! It looks like it's coming along really well. If Herr Boelcke can visit us from his other thread, he can give useful comments as he does beautiful work in 1/72 scale. So now 'fess up, while it may only be your second in 1/72 scale, what did you use to build before?

Hahaha! I seem to get stuck in those other threads. Well, its MTC after all.

    :thumbsupsmiley:

    Welcome aboard, Bugoy!

DocPepper is right. That looks like a neat build. And doesnt look like a first attempt. In fact, it doesnt look like a second attempt. Youre doing great!

I havent much to say about the weathering on the panel lines. Looks really subtle enough. Id suggest you try to make the weathering less uniform though. Uneven weathering makes the model a tad bit more realistic.

Still, very impressive progress youre making.

  12. Rasc,

Welcome aboard! Always great seeing a fellow modeler.

Many modelers in fact paint the model before removing the parts from the sprue. As a matter of fact, some model manufacturers recommend this. For old hands, though, there is a danger in that technique as paint may chip when you remove the part from the sprue.

Bubbles result from spraying too close to the model (such that the paint accumulates and ripples) or from not having shaken the can well, or both. Try practising spraying only in misting fashion, allowing the coats to dry in between.

  13. Some pics of my 1/72 DML Challenger 2.

Finished the tank last month. I used aluminum foil for the camo netting, change the grab handles and the side skirts.

    Comments most welcome.

  14. Geronimonster,

There are Pla Plates available at Lils Mega and Lils Quad Car Park. There are also Squadron Styrene sheets available at JMNs in Harrison Plaza.

    Gents,

    .

IPMS-Bert Anido has two mini exhibits simultaneously on going. One is is Mega (for the Valkyrie film) and the other in the Hot Air Balloon festival in Clark. You might want to check em out.

    :)

  15. Doc,

There is hardly any clutter in my workbench as I wasnt building anything at the time the pics were taken.

    :D

For Dullcote, well, to be honest, Im not sure what its made of. Ive stopped using Testors paints since the 90s. I use Gunze even for clear coats. I know that bottled and spray can Testors are made of enamel, but I have this funny feeling Dullcote is made of lacquer or acrylic, in which case it may be a good idea to use Gunze thinner (or Tamiya's new laquer thinner which, from the looks, feel and smell, is very very similar to Gunze). Its mild enough to use for lacquer or acrylic, and does not give a frosting effect. You may want to try mixing a little batch, though, just to be sure it wont react or ruin Dullcote.

As for the seatbelts, its going to be a wire-and-styrene affair.

Heres something I posted in our forums before. You may find it of some use:

  16. Doc,

Your work area: A sight all too familiar with modelers. I know of at least a dozen clubmates whose work areas look almost exactly the same. I try to keep my bench clutter free as much as I could, but Im only moderately successful.

    :D

Here are some pics of my own hobby room:

The license plates on the bus is homemade decal. Scaled down and altered using a real license plate as basis. And yes, the registry number CWX-614 corresponds to the actual license plate used on Victory Liner bus number 1054.

The rearview mirrors themselves are made from styrene, while the frames are made from copper wire.

  17. Heres the latest off my bench.

Its 1/87 scale and its scratchbuilt. Made from sheet styrene, clear acetate and resin. Its based on an actual bus operated by Victory Liner. Comments most welcome.
