put in the dmesg command and it seems the computer acknowledges the ethernet card but the last line says "eth1: no ipv6 routers present". maybe that's the problem?
not really a problem, it just tells you that your system supports IPv6 but you have not assigned any IPv6 address. local ISPs are still using IPv4 or the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx scheme.
the ip a l grep net command yielded an IP addresscare to post the output?
but the ip r l command has no output. isn't that strange? no routing table?~siiiiggghhhh~
my best bet is you do not have a gateway defined

honestly i don't know. i'm just grasping at straws here. it's digitel's dsl, i think it doesn't use static ip's.
we put in another LAN card - an ubuntu supported one at that - didn't work
i'm a newbie too, though we've been using ubuntu since 5.10
they usually work well out of the box so i don't mess with the terminal too much.
this is the first time it's giving us problems
anyway, thanks for the suggestions! any more help would be appreciated
you might need to check on the ethernet's ip settings. check if you assigned any particular ip address, or it's set for dhcp. as most dsl links, dsl modems assigns the ip address via dhcp.
a few more hints.... run the command "dmesg | grep eth" to look for errors pertaining to your ethernet card, ip a l | grep inet to check your assigned ip address, "ip r l" to check the routing table: see if you are routing 0.0.0.0 or the default route to the right gateway.
and oh, make yourself acquainted to the terminal, TIMTOWTDI with the shell

Thanks
by experience mas madali unahin mo muna windows, then install linux. then use the boot loader, GRUB or Lilo (my preference), to boot your windows and linux OS. straight forward ang config.
advantage/disadvatage: windows setup will overwrite your boot sector no matter what, killing any non-ntldr boot loader in place, linux boot loader will prompt you, or allow you to modify config files, for partitions you wanted to boot plus a customised boot menu if you want to

The only problem I have with it is that most of the softwares that I need to install are in the internet pa.
once you get the hang of it, i'll bet you would prefer installing the programs you need from tarballs. binary packages on the internet are compiled with the options as needed by the people compiling them, may or may not include the options you need.
but then, take your time. you'll learn along the way

Road is neat. courteous (and most of the time beautiful) toll booth personnels. The fees, guess pareho lang sa SLEX Grade A (magallanes-alabang) section
Patrol cops are there for our safety, though i'm hitting 150-160 pag wala patrol sa unahan.

Hi I'm just an average Redhat Enterprise user. Anyone who knows how to do clustering in linux?
I can be a big help with many things regarding Oracle.
I personally implemented a linux clustered router (+firewall serving 6 high traffic segments) back in 2003, using the theories from Ultra Monkey and the boxes are still doing their gob real well. But then that was 4 years ago and i think things has improved a lot.
I guess the most popular (and comprehensive? ) implem is the Linux High Availability Project.
been a while since i touched the subject

meron ba kayong alam na nabibilhan ng orinoco gold dito sa manila?
few years back i had an LG Collins pcmcia 802.11 adapter, somewhere along the line i lost it's driver cd and couldn't find any driver, both for win32 and linux. few goggles informed me that it has the orinoco gold chipsets, in short it's an orinoco gold.
forgot model tho

balik ka na ng suse 10.2, RAID is very interesting! imagine, two physical HDD running in sync with each other or one HDD mirroring the other (something like a backup system but is primarily not). It depends on the RAID level.
One thing that got me interested is the RAID zero (0) level. medyo mahirap ma-gets ang description but eventually I think I got the gist of it. Imagine two hard disks running in sync to create one (1) virtual drive.
the best to my understanding; in windows when you have two hard disks, when the primary hard disk only has little disk space, let's say about 5 Mb remaining and then you have a 10 Mb file, you can't cut the 10 Mb file to fit the remaining disk space in the primary disk while the remaining 5 Mb of the file will be stored in the secondary HDD.
with RAID 0 you can do that
fascinating isn't it?
dude, raid is not enough incentive, matagal ko na ginagawa yan sa servers.LVM has been around for quite sometimes, but then i never really trusted it
i'd still go for hardware RAID

Maybe we can get them to contribute/answer questions here, kung meron.

Hi. napansin ko lang may ilang peeps na interesado sa linux. I'll try to help as much as I can. Maybe we also have guys here that are very much experienced with linux so we can help them help us as well.
dude, i have a feeling opening this thread is no longer necessary as there's an existing linux thread, not to mention the other Open Source thread.
no offense meant, pramis

dansguardian: http://www.dansguardian.org
samba: http://www.samba.org
and a lot more day-to-day packages.

muntik na ako dati, after buti na lang marami hinuhuli. too late na nung mapansin ko, the nlex patrols nasa tas ng overpass before the bocaue toolgate, kitang kita ko yung devices nila nakatutok sakin. kakabagyo lang nun. before reaching the tollgate i know i was in trouble. approaching the tollgate, kitang kita yung mga aprehending officers withtheir radios, they were swarming from the leftmost booth. siksik naman ako sa kanan dikit sa trucks. then yung isa nakatingin na i just asked my wife not to stare. past the booth i heard a whistle, huli yung katabi ko! then harurot na ako.
after nun, pag may overpass slow down muna konti just to make sure wala pickup sa taas. then pag may patrol sa unahan i noticed na walang nag oovertake pilapila lang, maski libre sa innerlane, the patrols usually maintains 100kph so pag humarurot ka, overspeeding pa din

I am currently trying out two linux distros right now: Bayanihan (Fedora core 3?) linux for P3 computers and Mandriva Linux. All I can say about Mandriva is: "Ang cute" as compared to Fedora 5, and RHEE. I think I will stick to Mandriva for awhile
been using mandrake (and of course eventually mandriva). it's may second fave distro. slackware remains my fave distro, since '97
