  1. guys, i'm sorry but i just have to really rant about this. yesterday, had dinner at romulo since twas my cousins birthday. we ordered lots of food from the flying fish, boneless pata, lolas embotido to the kare kare. as we were enjoying our meals my sister in law suddenly screamed out of the blue. panicking, we all hurried next to her to see what was wrong. we suddenly saw that on her spoon of karekare was a small cockroach. it was the most disgusting thing we saw and we all lost our appetite. whats worse is after compalining to the manager about it. all they tried to do in compensation was to replace the kare kare, which definitely we declined and instead ask for other compensation such as not include the dish in the bill. but management kept refusing. until the end we got them to remove the kare kare from the bill. but after having this experience having this perception of such a prestine establishment to be so careless and so inconsiderate that it just makes me feel so dissapointed and to think this was one of my favorite spots to go to for comfort food. o well, guess this is a lesson learn and from now on will never be going back to this place nor their other establishments. what a shame.

  2. sir asmo, actually after talking to some jap chefs i was told that fresh uni would be able to hold its shape which is the strips you see that looks like a small tongue. if an uni is no longer fresh it would not be able to hold its shape and would start crumbling and juices would start coming out of it. however, i agree also that color is another issue in determining an unis freshness.

  3. CHUNG MI RAE, just near Timog Avenue (across the Shell Station near Food Plaza) should be a good start. I dined there a couple of times already and the food seemed fine to me. Also lots of korean nationals dine there so I guess if its good enough for them it should be good enough for us. (oh the owner/chef/cook is a korean national too)

There is another korean resto near Puregold (Mother Ignacia) ...... I forgot the name, but food there is decent enough (though they don't serve beef Galbi)

Just spoke with a korean friend and he said that 1970 Grill serves korean inspired food. (I'm hoping to check the place out before the week ends)

asmo, thanks for all your recommendations. too bad didnt get your message on time. however, i did end up going to domo instead a friend of mine suggested it out of the blue and guess twas just meant to be. as for my fr on the food. will try to post them soon just having trouble transfering pics from my iphone.

  4. I will definitly try this place soon. (mahilig talaga ako sa noodles)

    ----------------------------------------

with the closure of SUSHI KATSU (near Tomas Morato) ....... there really isn't much of a good (and more traditional) japanese inspired resto left in the area.

I heard the resto below Yakimix in Tomas Morato (DOMO ata yun name) are owned by japanese. But so far, I haven't had the chance to try them yet. (any comments forthose who have already ??)

havnt heard of domo, but maybe its worth checking out.

asmo maybe you can set up a food trip there and if its alright i could tag along.

  5. thanks asmo for the post. its just really too bad the food was a total miss. presentation wise it really does look so apetizing.

Ukokkei is by Arnaiz ave ( formerly pasay road ) i guarantee you you wont regret going there. and for a late snack you may also try nihon bashi tei its noodles are very tasty as well and is much cheaper than kikufuji. and based on experience they have fresher uni than kikufuji.

  6. the name of the resto is NOMAMA ....... run by some local celebrity chef (whose name escapes me at the moment). Their noodle soup are of the tonkontsu kind (pork bone broth) ....... and yes I would agree on its lack of flavor.

service is good (as the servers will take the time to explain the dishes on the menu) but it doesn't make up for the overall mediocre food offerings.

even my balikbayan relatives (who like me are lover of noodles) agreed with me on the less than desirable flavor.

    *****************************

for better tonkotsu noodles, one can try Ramen Bar in Eastwood or Ajisen Ramen House (a branch in Robinsons place manila and another in Connecticut ave in greenhills)

I totally agree, by the way thanks for the recommendations. may i also suggest kookookei in makati. its a very authentic jap resto that does hand made noodles. the chef is also the owner so if he doesnt feel like coming in for work the extablishment would be close so better to call first before going there.

  7. guys, i'm sorry but i just gotta say Lemuria isnt that great. been there a couple of times and everytime the food was a miss. food are too bland or too salty and often being served cold already. i just think there are way better choices than lemuria. However, i do agree on the ambiance of the place it does have a very romantic scene and you can even ask to tour around the wine cellar but still the food just isnt great.

Just another suggestion if you like real awesome food with a humble romantic feel try going to the goose station by the fort. food is just heavenly, try ordering the 10 course meal and i kid you not your dates panty will start dropping.

  8. tried sentosa last night along thomas morato.food was fairly acceptable. ordered the singaporean chilli crab, pad thai, walnut spareibs ( which was delicious), chicken feet, radishcake in xo sauce, kangkong, and laksa. all in all the experience wasnt bad. would consider eating ehre again although some of the food lacked more taste but nonetheless it was fairly decent. by the way thank asmodeus. got the idea from your fr.
