KENJI TEI, GREENBELT 5
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/kenji%20tei/photo-42.jpg
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/kenji%20tei/photo-43.jpg
UNI SASHIMI - very fresh and cold. However, wish they would have cleaned it better ended up biting several shells from the uni.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/kenji%20tei/photo-46.jpg
CRUNCHY ROLL - tempura crumbs on top of a very plain sushi roll which contained crab meat. liked the topping, didnt really care about the roll.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/kenji%20tei/photo-47.jpg
CHEESE GYOZA - one would find this unusual but it was ok. however, would have loved a bit more cheese flavor into it.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/kenji%20tei/photo-45.jpg
BUTTER CORN RAMEN - noddles were obviously premade noodles and the soup was a bit on the oily side. flavor was good and soup had a very milky texture.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/kenji%20tei/photo-44.jpg
CURRY RAMEN - didnt quite get the curry flavor and the soup was just too thick for my taste.
Overall:
ambiance 3.5 - very modern interior design. however, would have loved better chairs and tables. plus the table arrangement was very tight.
food 3 - some of the things in the menu seem interesting and new however, as far as what ive tried so far, the food still needs some work specially in the seasoning dept.
service 3 - servers wernt really quick on their feet and we had to call their attention several times before getting proper service.
price 4 - prices were pretty average and reasonable. all in all for our meals we payed P1,600.00 including service charge.
-
choi garden is the one in anapolis. its the original choi while choi palace is the one in eastwood. i beleive they are of the same company just different approach in market.
-
choi garden has really gone bad with regards to the quality of food. and last i heard the original chef of choi has been pirated by Golden fortune resto in macapagal.
i suggest, for better quality and authentic chinese quisine try lili at hyatt hotel or at jasmine in RWM.
-
clinkz : totally agree. got the opportunity to see her at a fair and ya she is one of the more pleasing chefs in this country.
-
the owner actually doesnt do the calculating he does all the cooking.
by the way were you able to try the egg?
-
I remember one time .....
venue: shangrila edsa
date: feb 14 (valentines day)
most couples came in dressed as if they are going to the prom. There was a string quartet playing for that romantic effect, red roses were being distributed to the ladies.
And when the buffet service started ...... all hell broke loose. (wala ng poise poise basta makakarami sa lobsters at scallops
)
HAHAHAHA!!!! exactly, thats why i could never consider buffet as being formal/ fine dining. that's why you pay a higher price when eating fine dining so that you wouldnt have to constantly stand up to get your own food. plus, in fine dining, food are always presented beautifuly, artisticly. unlike in buffet where everything does go bonkers and you see splashes of food everywhere. in other words, fine dining is all about the quality and not the quantity.
-
the owner s the bald jap guy with bandana on his head that kinda looks like a ramen natzi.
how did you find the angus beef at H cuisine?
-
ic.. could it be because the owner is actually the one cooking in makati? and hes actually there every evening?
-
H CUISINE. SCOUT RALLOS, QUEZON CITY
The beautiful Chef Hannah Herrera- Bagatsing claims to have "the most awesome beef angus belly in town" and surely enough it does not dissapoint.
However, calling it to be the most awesome one in town? hmm.... i admit the beef was very tender and cooked just right. however, i found the taste to be lacking a few things mainly seasoning?
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/H%20cuisine/photo-37.jpg
Taco salad - Love the dressing!!!
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/H%20cuisine/photo-40.jpg
garlic rice - good for one
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/H%20cuisine/photo-38.jpg
The most awesome angus beef belly - very tender and silky smooth to the mouth. however, lacks seasoning. perfect when salt is added and drops of tobasco sauce for some kick.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/H%20cuisine/photo-39.jpg
osso bucco - a bit on the sour side. very strong tomato base sauce. however, like the beef this dish also lacked seasoning.
overall:
ambiance: 3 - place looked very quaint and simple. could use better furnitures and fixtures.
food: 4 - eventhough food lacked seasoning i still had a great meal. and i may not totaly agree wether chef hannah does have the best angus beef belly in town i would definitely go back for more.
service: 3- staff were a bit occupied chit chatting with each other that kinda took a while to get real service.
price: 4 - for all that we ordered which fed 4 people plus additional two drinks i'd say it was fairly cheap considering our bill only ran to P1,500.00 total.

http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/ristras/photo-36.jpg
assortments of soft taco
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/ristras/photo-34.jpg
huge borito with pulled pork, rice, beans and all sorts of vege.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/ristras/photo-35.jpg
hard taco assortment
overall:
ambiance 3 - looks average and simple
food 4 - pretty good, would consider eating again if was really really hungry.
service 3 - self service but at elast the staff were friendly
price 3 - i remember the price to be a bit hgih specially for tacos and veges.
-

LU or LULU?, JOYA ST. ROCKWELL
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/lulu/photo-28.jpg
MIxed appetizer - unfortunately, everyone grabbed all they could once the dish was down to the table leaving me with almst nothing to take a picture of. but this dish consisted of roti with different topings such as humus, potato salad, eggplant, chicken pate, gruier cheese, and in the middle fried chilli dipped in tomato sauce. i really enjoyed the cheese as it was melted so perfectly and tasted excellent.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/lulu/photo-33.jpg
tomato squash soup - a bit on the bland side. lacked seasoning
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/lulu/photo-30.jpg
mixed greens - veg was fresh although had some wilted edges.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/lulu/photo-29.jpg
rib eye steak - steak was a bit on the tougher side but still tasted good. loved the baked garlic goes so well with the steak. oh and i seperated the fats of the beef and had it re cooked till charred. and added it to a cup of rice. it was pure heaven.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/lulu/photo-32.jpg
creme brulee - loved the mixture of the sweetness with the dried coconuts really blends well.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/lulu/photo-31.jpg
Geoff merril cabernet sauvingnon - poison of the evening. goes well with the ribeye.
overall:
ambiance 4 - place is perfect for couples on dates or business meetings for corporates.
food 4 - food was good but not that good.
service 4 - wait staff were very quick to serve
price 3 - a bit on the pricey side but the location and ambiance makes up for it.

Country Side, Katipunan
Have you ever experienced food comma? Country side sure has all the stuff you need to achieve such nirvana.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/country%20side/22.jpg
Kinilaw na Kambing - Goat meat griled to perfection soaked in white vinegar topped off with onions, ginger and garlic.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/country%20side/photo-26.jpg
grilled liempo bits - this dish mainly consisted of firm fatty meat but tasted ohhh so good. can literally make hearts skip a beat.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/country%20side/photo-25.jpg
chicken isaw and gizzard - very fresh and dosnt leave a liver after taste.
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/country%20side/photo-24.jpg
Bopis - dissapointment. dish was salty
http://i1133.photobucket.com/albums/m585/ekl1982/country%20side/photo-23.jpg
pork isaw
overall:
Ambiance 1.5 - the place was just down right nasty. Since its along the side of the main road smokes coming from motorists can be smelled from the establishment and as for the outside vecinity it is cockroach infested and not just your ordinary cockroaches they were albino.
food 4 - food was just heaven. now only if they can make the food healthier
service 3 - lacks staff and service was a bit on the slow side
price 3 - considering the ambiance of the place id price it a bit high but it surely makes up for the quality of food being served.

i dont think we should consider buffet style of eating as fine dining.
-
hmmm.... seems like everyone is on a diet again.

@ theluffy99 - "authentic" japanese restaurants are often divided into different styles. not all japanese restos would serve everything that you are looking for. each resto would often have a specialty in dishes. for example: Okukkei is mainly ramen dishes, or Urameshiya is an authentic japanese grilling resto, or tsumura mainly centered as a sushi bar. As for kimpura, its a resto that has been establish in the late 80's i think but as far as i can remember since i was a kid use to go there a lot with my family and the dishes have always been superb. they were the once in manila who's claim to fame was their tepanyaki style cooking and of course their famous tempura. although recently i went to this place i find that the quality has gone down specially since a lot of the old chefs are now retired and no longer in service. but nonetheless i would still recommend you try this place just for the experience and please be reminded although this resto does present somewhat authenticity its still not a true authentic japanese resto with its flavors and ambiance. Unlike nihonbashitei, this place is the real deal. its prices are actually farely cheap compared to other places like kikufuji and the such but for the authenticity of the place and the quality of the food its really worth it. you can never go wrong here, i suggest if your gonna eat here try having the ramens and sashimi, fishes ehre are served fresh and in pretty good portions.
-
@ asmo, thanks for the invite. maybe next week we could head to the ones i was telling you about.
-
I know that a shrimp salad is a Chinese dish. I was disappointed coz I thought its shrimp salad was like that of Chinese restos such as Hongkong Garden and Shang Palace which are the restos where I ordered shrimp salad.
I definitely agree.
Why would you think a japanese influence resto would serve chinese dishes?
-
which was why I never considered SUMO SAM as being a traditional japanese resto .......
Thats because sumo sam isn't a traditional japanese resto, its acutally fusion japanese which a lot of the resto's are now doing its basically a mix of everything but highlights a lot of japanese influences.

lemuria has always been very poo when it comes to its quality of food. yes the ambiance does take you aback but the food just does not fit the look. Here's a couple suggestions for secluded resto's that you might wanna check out for a special date or just wanna avoid being seen. 1. Ninyo ( xavierville, katipunan) a hidden gem and recently the place was refurbished now dinners can eat outside in private dining areas with curtains covering them. 2. the goose station ( Fort bonifacio ) very elegant, very pricey resto but sure to hit a homerun with your date. 3. marcia adams ( tagaytay ) away from the metro gives you that old tuscany country feel. food is also magnificent. 4. antonios ( tagaytay) another gem outside of the metro. This place will surely get you to third base. 5. L'incontro ( makati) a ncie quiet establishment serving magnificent italian cuisine. hope the list helped o yah and for the gentle manyaks out there. if your in the qc area one of the best place to bring your others to without really being seen is Moomba. the place is so hidden and hardly anyone goes. just a tip.

Ate at choi palace as well found the food to be just ok, nothing special.
By the way saw your fr on uncle cheffy been meaning to try that place. Too bad you had some un satisfying orders. But how's the over all experience? Food wise that is. Anything interesting in their menu?
