willow_boy
De Vega was shot by Paulino Arceo, a journalist. He was jailed for his crime; in 1986, the case was reviewed by the Supreme Court but the sentence was upheld in 1990. But since he had already served 15 years, he was paroled. However, the true reason for the murder has never been revealed. There were rumors that de Vega had granted Mijares a favor, something that Marcos did not like. In fact, de Vega was supposedly still alive when he was brought to the Malacanang clinic. But for some unknown reason, he was ordered tranferred to Singian clinic where he died upon arrival. Thanks for the correction, SBM. I totally forgot about this Arceo guy. Is he still around? Quote Link to comment
Mandrake
Primitivo Mijares a Press Secretary was murdered in the United States presumably by Marcos agents after he wrote the book the Conjugal Dictatorship. Wasn't Primo Mijares also rumored to have been thrown out of the chopper of Hans Menzi in the middle of his Mindanao plantation for citing Menzi's sexual deviations and mis-adventures in his book...or was it another media man? Menzi reminds me of a joke in Malacanang. There were 3 CRs; His, Hers, Hans! Quote Link to comment

EB next week perhaps? Yes, the generals still rule today. On another matter, the Games of the Generals was invented by Ronnie Pasola. It was very popular in the 70s and quite exciting at that. gonefishing
Cge bro. Text text lang. My friends then said that Games of the Generals was based on Stratigo (whatever). General din si Hans Menzi. Games of the General was very popular during those days and a very exciting game to play. Until somebody found out that you can win easily the game if you put some marker on the "Flag" of your opponnet. The excitement disappeared after that. I learned the military ranking from this game. It would be very interesting if somebody develops a computer game similar to the Games of the General. Quote Link to comment
jt2003
One problem with the Game of the Generals was that it required an arbiter. So it was always a game of at least three people. My favorite piece was the Spy. The Spy could k*ll just about anyone. There were some exceptions, but I can no longer recall. Another game was Threat, where you could destroy a nation with an atom bomb if you had the card for it. Napaka-violent, no? Better pa yung enduring games such as Monopoly and Scrabble. The nice thing about board games is that you have to play with another person, not with a computer. That sort of enhances relationships in the family or among friends. dyakhardy
Nice topic, especially on Marcos's extra-curricular activities. Compared to today, Crime in politics and govt was limited to the man himself. Ngayon , maski sino pwede Quote Link to comment

willow_boy
Hehehe. Pumasok bigla sa isip ko sina Dovey Beams, Gina Lolobrigida (I'm not sure sa spelling), Rosemarie, Aurora Pijuan, etc. Gina Lollobrigida was in the news last year for marrying a man who was at least 40 years her junior. May asim pa rin. The last thing I read about Dovey Beams is that she's fallen on hard times. Her old house in Beverly Hills was auctioned off as part of bankruptcy proceedings against her. Rosemarie is here in the US, I think. Quote Link to comment
