I think it's a huge gamble for the other team to trade a veteran guy that you know what you'll get day in and day out for a 2nd round pick that hasn't prove anything in his career. It could be a jackpot or bust for the other team

i thought they will trade this pick for a ready go-to veteran?

Lakers plan to pick Brandon Ingram with No. 2 pick

post-481684-0-39383700-1466658127_thumb.jpg

Barring a last-minute blockbuster trade offer, the Los Angeles Lakers intend to select Duke freshman Brandon Ingram with the second pick in the 2016 NBA draft Thursday night, league sources told ESPN.

The Lakers spent three hours huddled with new coach Luke Walton on Tuesday night before signaling to multiple league sources that Ingram would be their choice if the Sixers select Ben Simmons with the No. 1 pick.

The 76ers have promised Simmons that he will be their pick at No. 1. The 76ers' promise was first reported by Cleveland.com on Tuesday and confirmed by ESPN.

Asked Wednesday whether he's been told by the Lakers they planned to pick him, Ingram said he hasn't "heard anything."

"I really don't know who is going to take me. I am in the blind. Whoever takes me, I'll be happy," he said.

Sources say Lakers officials believe Ingram is a great fit for the organization and a potential All-Star player down the road. His shooting and ability to defend multiple positions fit a huge need for them. Ingram has been ranked No. 2 on ESPN's Big Board since December and is widely considered the consensus No. 2 pick in the draft by rival general managers.

While the team carefully vetted several other prospects including Oklahoma's Buddy Hield and Providence's Kris Dunn, the feeling within the organization was the Ingram provided both the best fit and the most upside for the team.

With the Lakers' draft board coming into focus, sources held out a potential scenario in which Ingram didn't go No. 2 -- a last-minute blockbuster trade offer from a team offering a young but experienced All-Star in return.

The Lakers don't want to trade the pick and are bullish on Ingram. However, they would likely consider any chance to get a proven young All-Star now, according to sources. The team plans to be very aggressive in free agency in July, and a young All-Star-caliber veteran could help them lure other elite free agents.

Lakers Rumors: Los Angeles Reportedly Will Pursue Al Horford in Free Agency

The Los Angeles Lakers are reportedly keen to make a big splash in free agency this summer by pursuing four-time All-Star Al Horford.

ESPN's Marc Stein reported the news of the Lakers' intentions to make a run at the longtime Atlanta Hawks big man on Wednesday.

Horford has been with the Hawks since they selected him third overall in the 2007 NBA draft. With the league's salary cap rising and no realistic championship chances to date in Atlanta, though, Horford is bound to explore his options.

Stein also reported the Hawks are trying to trade two first-round picks in the hopes of persuading Horford to stay put. The 30-year-old averaged 15.2 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.5 blocks per game this past season.

Los Angeles represents an interesting fit for Horford, who has thrived at both the 4 and 5 positions throughout his career. If Julius Randle does indeed prove to be a Lakers franchise cornerstone, it's likely Horford would settle in at center with Randle at power forward.

The pairing of Horford and Randle is intriguing on paper, especially on the offensive end. Randle is a gifted ball-handler and a tenacious rebounder, whereas Horford has more finesse to his game and can stroke it from three-point range.

That combination would pose matchup problems for opponents, and new coach Luke Walton would likely embrace the challenge of getting the duo to coexist in L.A.'s starting five.

With the recent retirement of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, the team has a lot more cap flexibility to chase a big-name player on the open market such as Horford, who'll likely command a max contract.

Competition for Horford's services figures to be fierce, though, so Los Angeles will have to put its best foot forward coming off a franchise-worst 17-65 season.

Between Randle, last year's No. 2 overall pick D'Angelo Russell and another second overall pick arriving in Thursday's draft, the Lakers will have three young, promising pieces in place when they give their pitch to Horford. If L.A. can retain restricted free agent Jordan Clarkson, its outlook would be even better.

Hopefully they could get KD next season... :)

I dont think lakers will get KD.. isa rin ako sa hopefull but after seeing the potential of 2016 draft pick na si Ingrams..2nd KD ito ng lakers.. excited ako para sa purple and gold team ko specially makuha nila sa free agency yung Al Holford or Whiteside... but I'm afraid about clarkson to be just a 6th Man of the team..

Could The Los Angeles Lakers Swing A Trade For Jimmy Butler?

The Los Angeles Lakers are heading into a crucial offseason for their future and are hoping to bring in a big name. There are free agents they could target TGT +1.34%, or they could look for a star in a trade. Jimmy Butler may be available and the Lakers could target the Chicago Bulls’ star.

Heading into the 2016 NBA Draft, the Lakers are in prime position to make a big deal. They hold the No. 2 overall pick and could swing a deal with some of the other assets that they have available to trade.

Chicago just moved Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks in a blockbuster trade. There is no telling whether they will be interested in dealing Butler as well or not at this point in time. Los Angeles should place a call to the Bulls and do whatever it takes to work a trade for Butler.

Last season with the Bulls, Butler ended up averaging 20.9 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.8 assists per game. He shot 45.4 percent from the field overall and knocked down 31.2 percent of his three-point shots. Those numbers would be a huge addition for the Lakers and would immediately make them a team to watch in the Western Conference.

Some media members are expecting the Lakers to continue trying to find a big name ahead of the draft. Parker Hurley of FanSided mentioned that acquiring Butler should be a trade that the Lakers try to make ahead of the draft.

Looking at Butler’s contract, the Lakers would be acquiring four more seasons of Butler. He will be heading into the second year of a five-year, $92.3 million contract. Chicago will not have an easy decision if the Lakers come calling, but there would be a very fair offer.

Los Angeles could offer the No. 2 overall pick in the draft to go along with a young piece like D’Angelo Russell or Julius Randle. That kind of a trade package might be enough to make the Bulls consider their options and possibly pull the trigger.

At just 26-years-old, the Lakers would be acquiring a player that they can build their future around. Butler may not be viewed as a superstar by everyone, but there is no question that he is en route to that title. He has been the face of the Bulls’ franchise over the past couple of seasons and his numbers are showing an impressive rise.

Luke Walton is the new head coach of the Lakers and his goal is to get the franchise back in playoff contention in the next year or two. He has promised to bring a fast and entertaining style of play to Los Angeles. Butler would fit into that plan and speed up the rebuilding process in a big way.

Not only would signing Butler give them one star player that would help them move forward quicker, he would be a piece that other free agents would be drawn to. Having star players is a major plus when trying to pitch a big name free agent.

It will be very interesting to see what ends up happening throughout the remainder of the offseason for the Lakers. They don’t necessarily have to pull the trigger on a deal for Butler ahead of the draft, as the Bulls would likely still be intrigued by acquiring whoever the Lakers pick at No. 2.

There are not many players in the NBA better than Butler as a two-way player. He would bring a lethal scoring punch to go along with being one of the league’s top defenders.

Expect to see the Lakers continue engaging teams in trade talks for bigger names as the offseason moves forward. They know that they have to be aggressive to get back towards the top of the Western Conference and acquiring Butler would be the type of move that can get them there.

it would be nice to get someone like butler but the lakers should not give too much asset.

also, there are rumours about kings-lakers trade. kings want russell and i can only imagine that the lakers wants cousins in return.

before the drose trade to the knicks there are also talks of a rose-russell trade.

maybe russell is expendable now that they have ingram as the star of the future.
