SKL (rant ahead, skip if you don't want to read):

Dahil lang sa ayaw mo sa nakaupong presidente, tinalo mo ang pinakamatalik mong kaibigan...

Pinagdudahan mo ang pagiging Iskolar ng Bayan ko...

Halos ipinagmamalaki mo pa sinabing ikinahihiya mong maging Pilipino.

Ilang taon ka na uli sa abroad? Lima?

Letse.

SKL...

When a person uses the apostrophe s ('s) tool in word construction, it means one of two things:

1. an indication of possession; or

2. a contraction or shortcut when writing a word plus a linking verb (in general).

Ergo, when you say it's, you are writing a contraction of IT IS. When you write gent's, you are referring to a gentleman's possession of whatever you refer to. If you wish to refer to the plural form of a word, the apostrophe may not be required at all.

Hence:

gents

yours

what's

it's (it is) and its (possession)
