ATONG ANG
im not that familiar with the cartier 'mystique' but why they fetch such a high price? for a stainless quartz watch? what monster is hiding inside its case? Quote Link to comment
pokpok
im not that familiar with the cartier 'mystique' but why they fetch such a high price? for a stainless quartz watch? what monster is hiding inside its case? Cartier is one of the oldest and most respected jeweler and watchmaker in the world. Founded in Paris in 1847. The first Santos watch was designed in 1904 for a Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont. It was launched for the public in 1911. In the beginning no rep*table watchmaker made quartz watches. Japan sent the industry reeling in the 70's by mass producing affordable, highly accurate quartz watches. Seiko and Citizen outsold all of the swiss companies combined. To avoid bankruptcy several prestigious names such as Omega, Rado, Longines, Blancpain merged into a publicly owned consortium. I heard a Daytona was going for less than $400 in the 70's.  Breguet made the first wristwatch in 1810 for the Queen of Naples. Took 2 1/2 years to complete. The upper end watchmakers carry their price for their mechanical watchmaking mastery and of course through name recognition and rep*tation. Quote Link to comment

pokpok
Cartier is more known as a jeweller, but Cartier wristwatches were produced with movements by Jaeger, Vacheron, Le Coutre, Cartier itself and The European Watch and Clock Co. These watch cases were manufactured in Paris, Geneva, London and New York, and each branch was responsible for the production of their own wristwatches. However, the French branch exported its watches to other shops. This was taken from the history of Cartier. No other comments were made in regards to their movements in their current production.
