minisushi
The thing is Thoss does not have a good perimeter game that could extend to 15-18 ft away from the basket. Devance is more athletic/agile too which is badly needed to defend against the BIGS of Asia that is if he is willing to use his defensive skills if at all. takot masaktan toh. he'd rather settle for outside shotswhich is effective naman I should say. Sonny defends and rebounds better imho. Quote Link to comment

Thoss plays Center but is undersize against the centers of opposing teams. will his D hold against taller players? JDV as you said don't play D. well I guess there's the reason why both are not in COACH Rajo's wish list Quote Link to comment

CharlesOngSy
Sana lang, kahit mag retire si Asi sa international competition, or even the PBA, he would still play an active part in the Philippine basketball development as some sort of a skills coach to out up coming big men like Junmar Fajardo or Greg Slaughter. Malaki maitutulong nila in sharing his experience in developing their talents. I second this. Asi will indeed be a great trainer of big men in the future Quote Link to comment
CharlesOngSy
naturalized big men. our guards are pretty good tough. kaya yan Correct. We have also some up and coming big men like Slaughter Quote Link to comment

khilua23
how about this: SBP to arrange series of tune up games for Smart Gilas against selection of NBA players. "An SBP insider said team officials are coordinating with former Sacramento Kings great Chris Webber to bring reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose of the Chicago Bulls, Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant and slam dunk champion Blake Griffin of the Los Angeles Clippers to Manila for a series of games. Also being mentioned as possible participants in the tune-up games are Kevin Love of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Andre Iguodala of the Philadelphia 76ers, Mario Chalmers of the Miami Heat, and Tyreke Evans of the Sacramento Kings." http://interaksyon.com/article/6683/wounded-smart-gilas-nixes-europe-trip-in-talks-to-play-nba-selection --->gagastusan kaya ni MVP yan? o kukunin din ang bayad mula sa load at kuryente? launchpad
this is a joke! another kind of those non sense like tim cones days of saying johnny A days of playing in the nba! or the likes of trash talk that has nothing. this players has live contracts with their teams, unless the nba allows it but if not why would they risk the possibility of getting injured wherein if its outside their contracts options to come here and play. unless its a promotional tour done by their sponsors thats another thing. also what kind of BS is this, the Gilas playing with derrick rose and elite nba players for practice games? its like you wanted ice cream and you go get it next thing you know you have a bowl in front of you and wala you are spinkled with NNNUUUUTTTTSSSSS . . . yes your NUTS!!! this is a complete non sense even if you talk to a chris webber! for me its a another propaganda to spun gilas into a trendy . . . just to cover up their performance in the last competition they played in and their futile results. Quote Link to comment
minisushi
i dont think this is a good idea at all. Whether they can pull it off or not is another story but if our immediate goal is to pass the qualifiers in wuhan, playing an ALL STAR NBA teamis a futile attempt to get our boys ready. The style of play in the world's most expensive play for pay league is so much different than what we are preparing for, which is international style of play (think IRAN, CHINA, even SOUTH KOREA). I still think playing in europe will be better fit para maalis na sa systema ang one on one mentality ng mga players natin (aka mark caguioa). mangyayari lang if this plan pushes through is a freak show, palabas lang, parang pelikula. Now why on earth would we want that right?? MVP is still a businessman first sportsman second. Quote Link to comment
Mango Man
Agree with launchpad and Kareem. Why on earth would these current All-Star NBA players agree to play against Smart Gilas, even if they get paid tons of money? In the very very very extremely unlikely event this pushes through, i'm gonna form a betting pool on how many points the NBA players will crush / demolish / pulverize / annihilate / evaporate Smart Gilas....my personal guess is 80 points at least. haha Quote Link to comment
launchpad
if you read the news its an scapegoat of the reason they didnt join a tourney but in fact they cant play because of lack of man power and injury and pba players leaving Quote Link to comment

darksoulriver
kahit na magbayad sila playing a tune up games will not be feasible dhil hindi nman papayagan kaagad ng kanya-kanyang Team Management! why not look for other alternatives like play against US NCAA Elite Team wag lng nilang ggyahin yung ginawa ng isang previous RP NATIONAL TEAM na nkipag-rambulan sa isang college team sa US. thegame08
No contest ang recent tournament na sinalihan ng sg, as expected they dominated the opposition like they were the U.S.
this is an insult to the NBA stars? sending them for tune up games against the Gilas players? e FIBA nga, hirap na hirap na ang SG team, versus NBA cream of the crop pa and at their prime pa???!! kaya nakakawalang gana ang Philippine Basketball eh. you can lord over sa SEABA pero hanggang SEA games na lang tayo. we can't even rule Asia anymore. stop dreaming please. stick to boxing, billiards and boxing or maybe even football where height is not might. we can only dream so much. we can always love basketball as sports spectators right? Quote Link to comment
launchpad
that news alone already depicts what the SG team is all about. all about excuse, all about having the wrong reasons the wrong instances at the right time. better stop this and not waste anymore of any man or the govt money. we are always dreaming but in achieving that dream everyone wants a walk in the part experience. lets look at the bigger picture, kaya wala nangyayari sa pinas. KareemJabbar
Dun nila sila makipag tune up sa Sacramento Kings. Pero All-Stars ng NBA? Kevin Durant at Derrick Rose pa ang gusto, ambisyoso. Quote Link to comment

Quote Link to comment
KareemJabbar
Quote Link to comment
Mango Man
Siguro to be more competitive, they should assemble a team of NBA benchwarmers (i.e. those who don't have guaranteed contracts for next season, 12th men on their teams, etc.). Para 60 points lang ang tambak! I think we should just focus on individual sports such as mga martial arts disciplines, billiards, boxing, etc. After all, since our country has little money, we will spend much less if one person wins an Olympic medal, vs. one team winning a medal. mas cost effective diba?
