Been a Gins fan since Jawo moved there to this day ... Do you know the meaning of a Bandwagoner?-Look at yourself in the mirror and you'll see one. You started posting about the Lakers only after they became champs in 2009. Where were you when the Lakers were getting their asses handed to them by the Suns in 2006 and 2007? Also, were you posting when the greatest team of all-time walloped the LA Losers in the Finals in 2008? I'm guessing you were cheering for another team. Pati sa Ginebra bandwagoner ka din.

What is ironic in me for not buying your PERSONAL OPINION? As a GINS fan, my loyalty and support is to the team win or lose and not to what you say. -Pa Gins fan-Gins fan ka pa. Bandwagoner ka naman. As for my opinion, I based this on a historical fact. Perhaps you were still a toddler when Ginebra won the 1988 All-Filipino which featured a ragtag team of Gonzalgo, the Loyzaga brothers, Jawo and Ampalayo. Si Ampalayo pa yung center nila nun. They beat a powerhouse Purefoods team of future 4-time MVP Captain Lionheart, Codinera and Jolas. If Jawo could do that to a ragtag team, what more with this team which has superior talent.

In sports, someone who shamelessly cheers for a particular team not because he likes them or follows them faithfully, but only because that particular team is the "popular" choice or has been or is the top team in their specific sport recently. When that team which bandwagoners follow falls from grace, they gleefully jump on the next teams bandwagon and cheer for that team.

Just because you started posted when one team started winning does not prove one is a bandwagoner. It's just like were you posting when Celtics were in their lows before the Big 3 era? If the team lost and one starts to cheer for the winning team then that person is a bandwagoner. But so far you can't show that it had happened.

To Illustrate: Person M openly posted that he is for Powerade team to represent RP in future international tournaments despite the not so encouraging finish it had the last tournament. The reason is becase the PBA players are supposedly superior than than the amature players of Gilas. When Gilas won over Powerade in an exhibition game then Person M suddely had a change of heart and to this day sings praises for Gilas. Now this example is clearly bandwagoning and I'm sure you can relate to it.

As far as your crystal ball that says Ginebra is a dynasty in the making should the Big J take over, you're probably blinded by that historical fact! How many times did Jawo lead a ragtag Ginebra team to an all filipino championship? ONE time and that's it!!! That was the only ALL FILIPINO crown coach won and it was over a talented but rookie laden team. The Franchise was even suspended for alleged game fixing if your history serves you well.  So what am I driving at? Well, stop this crap that Anejo won over a "strong" Purefoods team when the fact of the matter is this Purefoods teams has always been a bridesmaid but never been a bride in its first 2 season.  I call that inexperience or growing pains on Purefoods.

Now for argument's sake if indeed Jawo coaching can turn things around. How can you guarantee a dynasty this day when the last dynasty we've seen was the time of San Miguel and Alaska's grandslam team. History will also tell you that;in recent years there was no successful defense of an all filipino title. That tells you something about the state of this league now for you to DREAM ABOUT A DYNASTY in the making.

Tanong ko lang. Anong kinalaman ng Powerade Team dito sa Ginebra thread? Out of topic ka na peithe/celts/liar. As I expected, you could not answer the question "where were you when the LA Losers were being owned by the Suns in 2006 & 2007? and by the Celtics in 2008?" Nagpost ka ba? Oh, you must have been cheering for the Celtics under a different nick para hindi halata na bandwagoner ka. Diba Celts isa sa mga nick mo?

The fact is Ginebra won over a talent-laden Purefoods team in 1988. I don't think Ginebra could have won that one if Jawo was not the coach. You said bridesmaid. The fact that they were second-best most of the time in their first 2 seasons is an implication that they made the Finals consistently in their first 2 years. In other words, Purefoods was a strong team. You say you're a fan of Ginebra yet you keep on belittling Jawo's leading a ragtag team over a powerhouse team. Ano ba talaga peithe/celts/liar? Dapat liar na lang gamitin mo since mas bagay sayo.

If one would want to claim that Purefoods of circa 88-89 was a strong team so be it as that is not the main point of contention. The issue on hand is BIG J being able to create a DYNASTY with the current lineup if he returns. But to say that since the Big J beat Purefoods then with a ragtag squad does not mean he can build a dynasty today. As I have said times have change and even the team that is strongest on paper could not even repeat as b2b all filipino champion. And how confident are you that the current Gin kings can beat the Anejo champion team?

Sabi mo Rag tag team ba ang Anejo? As far as I know, they got 3 players included in the 1990 Asiad that won a silver namely Cuenco, Loyzaga and Gonzalgo. That tells you the quality of player that they had at that time. Hindi man "superstars" these guys plays their hearts out. They play also plays aggressive D which is not at par with what the current team shows.

Bottomline, is it really Big J's coaching? Maybe yes maybe not. Am not saying jawo is a bad coach but if he's good he should be consistent in leading the team to another all filipino finale. How come it never happened?

As I have said times have change and even the team that is strongest on paper could not even repeat as b2b all filipino champion. And how confident are you that the current Gin kings can beat the Anejo champion team?-Very confident. The current Ginebra team would beat the 1988 All-Filipino champs 4-1 if the two teams met in a best-of-seven series.

They play also plays aggressive D which is not at par with what the current team shows.-Of course, Jawo would choose players from his team so that there would be a semblance of chemistry. That 1990 Asiad team started practicing 2 weeks before the Asiad. Make up your mind. Hindi superstars but you're contradicting what you're saying "that tells you the quality of players they had at the time". Based on that statement, you're making it seem as if Cuenco, Loyzaga and Gonzalgo are superstars.

Bottomline, is it really Big J's coaching? Maybe yes maybe not. Am not saying jawo is a bad coach but if he's good he should be consistent in leading the team to another all filipino finale. How come it never happened?-Beats me. What I know is during his time at the helm of Ginebra, he won 4 championships. Miller, Caguioa, Menk, Hatfield and Helterbrand are definitely much better than Gonzalgo, Joey Loyzaga, Rey Cuenco, Ampalayo and Mamaril. Isama mo na si Ducut.

while the current crop of Ginebra players maybe more talented that the JAWO-led era, nevertheless competition also have improved. as such, while the Ginebra line-up then may not be considered as a strong vis a vis its competition, the same can also be said of the current batch. Thus comparing these 2 generation of teams may not be exactly be comparing apples to apples per se

O,.T. (wala pa kasing thread ng Meralco)

MANILA, Philippines - Hardcourt legend Robert Jaworski is being consulted on how to promote Meralco’s expected entry into the PBA next season and it appears the Big J’s advice of using a socio-civic approach for advocacy will go a long way in keynoting the power company’s return to big-time basketball.

Jaworski discussed plans informally with Meralco executives at a Japanese restaurant in a Makati hotel last week.

Nothing is certain as to Jaworski’s role in the soon-to-be-formed Meralco team. It’s not likely he will be the coach or manager. But because Jaworski was a Meralco basketball star in the 1970s, he may be asked to serve as an ambassador of goodwill or consultant.

At least three well-known cage figures are rumored to be candidates to coach Meralco and Jaworski isn’t one of them. A current UAAP champion coach, a former UAAP champion coach and a former PBA champion coach are said to be the nominees – whether or not they know it.

“It was a friendly meeting and no offer was made whatsoever,” said a source privy to the discussion. “The Meralco executives wanted to hear from the Big J himself about the company’s basketball history, why it was so successful.”

Jaworski told the executives that since Meralco is a service company, it must play with an advocacy. The executives reportedly agreed that Meralco should be an “enabler” or a vehicle by which to assist people or the community through sports.

Jaworski’s advice was to play for a higher purpose. “Tulong sa masa is what he pushed for,” said the source. “The team must be focused on an advocacy. At the same time, he spoke about the necessity of building a championship-caliber team with disciplined players who will command respect and admiration. He specifically told the executives to stay away from players and coaches with a bad attitude.”

Another source said Meralco will employ a “unique” style of sports marketing where an NGO will be its beneficiary. The approach will not be to find a sponsor but to support a beneficiary. The example is football’s F. C. Barcelona which supports UNICEF as its beneficiary and carries the UNICEF logo in uniforms, not a brand of a commercial sponsor paying for jersey space. Under this approach, Meralco will likely donate its share of PBA ticket proceeds to the designated beneficiary.

Jaworski, 64, was reportedly offered at least P2 million a month to take an active role with an existing PBA franchise as coach or team manager or whatever capacity of his choice last year.

“Money is not everything to the Big J,” said a Jaworski confidant. “He weighed the circumstances and couldn’t see himself with a team playing against Ginebra.”

Jaworski, who resigned as chairman of the Philippine Reclamation Authority last March, recently broke back into the media limelight by appearing in TV and print ads with Manny Pacquiao for Ginebra. The ads, which also feature Pacquiao’s mother Dionisia, are a huge hit.

“The Big J is keeping in shape,” said the confidant. “He plays tennis every morning at Corinthian Gardens and swims in his pool at home every night. He’s open to participate in a benefit game to raise funds for retired and less fortunate PBA players even as a playing coach. His stamina is good. He can still play at least 15 minutes in a game if he wants to.”

Next March, Jaworski intends to finally retire his PBA jersey No. 7. “Strictly speaking, the Big J hasn’t retired from playing,” continued his confidant. “So he plans to make it official. There are offers for the rights to write his autobiography which I think will be a best seller. It would be interesting to trace his roots, how he got started in basketball and what he experienced as a player here and abroad and as a senator. He’s not the Living Legend for nothing.”

There is speculation that Jaworski is also in contention for the Philippine Sports Commission chairmanship.

“It makes sense for him to be the PSC chairman,” said the confidant. “First, he has the sports background. Second, he knows how government works. Third, he is a former athlete who feels for athletes. And fourth, he will surely get along with the Philippine Olympic Committee president and it’s important that the POC and PSC work together to push the national sports program forward.”

Jaworski’s son Dodot is married to POC president Jose Cojuangco’s daughter Mikee.

Will Caguioa be traded? Last time I heard, he wants a trade.

caguioa requested a trade due to dwindling playing time he's been receiving since willie miller came aboard. management is planning to use miller as a trade bait this coming off season though.

nothing solid as of the moment. SMC will be fixing their teams coaching staffs first before tinkering with their lineups.

source: from a very highly respected player agent who's handling both of these players

Caguioa should not be traded along with Helterbrand. In my opinion, they are the best backcourt in the PBA.

Tama! With Caguioa and Helter in the team, the rahrah game of Ginebra will still be intact. Mas lalong ganado ang team with the two vis a vis Miller.

“Lahat talaga ng negotiations tungkol sa kontrata will start after the (2010 PBA Rookie) Draft. The players knew about it, nasabihan naman sila eh,” sabi ni Non.
