Ganda ng laro kagabi talagang dikit up to the very end. Tama sabi nga mga fellow Gin fans dito mukhang out na for the conference si Tubid sa sama ng bagsak n'ya (plus the fact na hindi talaga s'ya makatayo), if he is, pagkakataon na para sa ibang mga guards ng Ginebra to step-up their game (i.e. Salvacion and Pacana). Maganda ang laro ni Valenzuela kagabi, his first solid game as a Gin Kings, sana tuloy-tuloy na yan, sabi sa inyo matapang 'to in defense and in offense eh. Just like in some of their games they have this penchant for fouling kaya maaga din sila nalagay sa penalty in the 4th quarter buti na lang hindi na-maximize ng alaska 'yon dahil puro tira sa labas ang ginagawa ng alaska.

He just need to have some confidence.

Congrats to the Gin Kings for making it to the Quarterfinals.

Reavis was already activated and in fact already played last Friday against the Welcoat Dragons.

TUBID is might be out na for the rest of the conference sayang na sayang. Other Guards of BGK must step up to the spot ni TUBID.

Another Alexander THE GREAT game...

MENK should be put on shooting and physical drill, hirap na hirap syang gumalaw sa shaded lane, even MAMARIL parang tulala kapag pinapasahan sa gitna.

yup 18 pts.. best game in a Ginebra uniform.. also i got to see him shoot a 3 point shot.. hope this is the start.. nwala kasi shooting niya from the arc since naging BGK siya.

Don't worry may youtube naman eh. hehe.

Loaded ang Ginebra sa guard position what with Salvacion, Pacana, Caguiao and Valenzuela and I think that its just a matter of giving them ample playing time in order to fill the void vacated by Tubid, most probably out na sya for the conference but I'm hoping for the best, iba kasi ang intensity na dala ni Tubid for the team and he is also a good defender..

from bottom of the cellars to ranked #3 after eliminations!!!

pero looking at the breakdown of games...parang como sila #3 parang dehado pa ata, as compared to #4 (MBM) and #5 (Coke).

1. BGK will not know who they'll be playing against until friday night. Meaning, they will only have Saturday to pour over the tapes of their best of 3 opponent is unlike MBM and Coke, im sure ngayon pa lang, panay na panuod ng tapes of each other ang coaching staff.

2. BGK will duke it out the winner of the wildcard, mejo mataas compyansa ng mga ito! albeit, the wildcard winner will need to win 4 of their next 5 games in order to make it to the semis, this is something that's not totally unheard of, esp in this particular conference.

3. Should BGK make it past the QF, they will need to contend with Red Bull, a team with already a championship tradition and a master tactician in yeng guiao. Unlike sa MBM, Coke, and Air21 shuffle, Air21 is untested in a best of 7 series. Air21 can win games but a series kung saan adjustments are expected....im very much skeptical na kayang gawin ng Air21 yan. lets face, one dimension lang talaga laro ng Air21.

Mabigat ang laban lalo na kung out na for the conference si Tubid (if ever naman na ganoon ka-severe ang injury n'ya it'll take weeks for his injury to heal) so kailangan ready sila to face any teams, its time for Salvacion to show what he can do nawalan lang kasi ng playing time ito and for Pacana play like he used to when he was with Coke, reactivating Rodney would help their cause and put Escalona in the reserved list, sa bigat ng laban nila they would want the right players to be in their line-up. Their power forwards also need to step up, tama ang observation noong isang sportscaster na sa power forward position hindi masyado nakakakuha ng points ang Ginebra, as their guards are the ones doing the scoring for them..

CAGUIOA, DAVID SHARE HONORS

...

Monday, 07 July 2008

MOTIVATION is easy to come by for Barangay Ginebra’s Mark Caguioa and Air21’s Gary David.

Both have risen through despair borne of injuries, cranking up their games and helping their respective teams to much-needed wins that prompted the PBA Press Corps to name them as the Smart/Accel Co-Players of the Week for the period June 30 to July 6.

“Nung masama ang umpisa namin, me mga nang-a-asar, nasaan daw ang Ginebra ngayon,” related Caguioa. “Pero OK lang sa akin iyon. I feed off that kind of negativity and use it as additional motivation.”

Said experience is similar to the one David went through after the Express had a likewise listless start. Sad part of it was, he was helpless then, recovering as he was from the assortment of elbow and knee injuries that had struck him through most of the season.

But those memories have since been replaced by sweeter ones after their games came back and gave their respective coaches more weapons in their arsenal. As a direct result, Air21 added on to its franchise record by making the semifinals outright and Ginebra landed one of the three automatic quarterfinals berths.

Those are giant steps indeed for the Gin Kings, who languished in the cellar for quite a while following a 0-5 start in the tournament, and the Express, who were not even among those picked to go this deep in the season-ender.

Caguioa, who had to sit out three games with a knee injury after similarly earning the scribes’ nod for the period May 19-25, said he just wants to do his part and help his team any way he can.

This attitude was not lost on Ginebra coach Jong Uichico, who said: “I think he understands fully now what I wanted for the team and I now understand what Mark is all about, as a person and as a player. It’s a very nice feeling to have Mark playing this way now.”

Caguioa admitted the mindset came to him following his better appreciation of Uichico’s system. “Whether starter or reliever, p’wede ako. Ang gusto kasi namin, kahit sino ang nasa loob, whether ako o si (co-shooting guard Ronald) Tubid ang nasa loob, kailangan tuloy-tuloy pa rin ang energy level na ibinibigay namin sa team,” he said.

That showed in Ginebra’s 97-90 win over Alaska last Sunday that boosted it to a third place finish in the eliminations, made possible by a better quotient than Coca-Cola and Magnolia, both also toting 10-8 win-loss records.

With Tubid taken out by a suspected dislocated left ankle, Caguioa came in and scattered 12 of his 15 points in the second half, combining mostly with backcourt partner Jayjay Helterbrand, Junthy Valenzuela and Chris Alexander in fueling the Gin Kings’ surge.

Air21 needed to win over Purefoods last July 2 to add on to the Bert Lina franchise record of most wins in an elims and automatically make it to the semis for the first time. David, similarly cited May 29-June 3, typified that desire by coming up with a personal season-high 30 points, 20 coming in the second half as Air21 charged back from an early 14-point deficit to win, 113-103, and wind up with a 12-6 slate.

“We really had a missing link in our offense when he was gone dahil wala kaming instant attack in our transition offense,” said Express coach Bo Perasol. “ Kaya nu’ng bumalik siya, he added a different dimension sa opensa namin and his intensity rubs off on his teammates.”
