Joredf
Quote Link to comment
[TWO]RERO
CAGUIOA, HELTERBRAND STILL 1-2 IN BPC RACE AFTER GAME 4 OF SEMISBut Furious leads Fast by just 0.2Wednesday, 30 July 2008 IF the statistical race is to be the gauge, Barangay Ginebra's Mark Caguioa is on his way to snaring the Best Player award in the Smart PBA Fiesta Conference. The prolific Kings guard finished the semifinals on top of the race with 32.62 statistical points average, with only teammate Jayjay Helterbrand (32.42 Sps) crowding him for the tournament's highest individual plum. The two finished racking up the stats after sweeping Red Bull in four games of their semifinals series. The rest of their closest pursuers, even those from Air21 and Magnolia, which are still battling for the other finals slot, have little way of overtaking them and snatching the award away. Should either Caguioa, who snared the same award in the 2006-07 Philippine Cup, or Helterbrand bag the citation, then he will become an automatic contender for the season MVP. Only the top five in the SPs race are to be considered for the award, but it will also include the top player from the other finalist if he isn’t among the Top 5 contenders. That means Air21's Arwind Santos, who dropped from fourth at the end of the eliminations to sixth with his 29.00 average, could be a contender. Ditto for Magnolia's Dondon Hontiveros, who is at 16th with 23.0. Smart Philippine Cup BPC winner Kelly Williams got mired at third with his 32.38 SPs average, Alaska's Willie Miller is still stuck at fourth with 30.30 and Purefoods' Kerby Raymundo at fifth with 29.50. The award, along with the Best Import plum, will be announced in Game 3 of the Finals. The third big reason for Barangay Ginebra's 12-game winning streak and early Finals entry, Chris Alexander, is also the frontrunner in the Best Import category. Alexander, the tournament leader in rebounding, field-goal percentage and shotblocks, has a 48.6 SPs average, way ahead of Air21 reinforcement Steven Thomas (46.6). Despite the Realtors crashing out at sixth the man they tabbed at No. 3 in the draft, Ryan Reyes, remains the leader in the Rookie of the Year award. His 23.4 SPs average, which lodged him at 14th in the overall ladder, is comfortably ahead of the 19.6 by Welcoat's Joe Devance, the top pick overall.Statistics comprise 30 percent of the criteria with the other points to come from votes by representatives from the media (30 percent), players (25 percent), TV coveror ABC Sports (10 percent) and the PBA Commissioner's Office (5 percent). (NCo) BPC Caguioa or Helterbrand ??? Edited August 1, 2008 by [TWO]RERO Quote Link to comment

George Bush
Breakdown GUARDS Wynne Arboleda19 - Guard Gary David20 - Guard Marvin Cruz12 - Guard Ernesto Billones29 - Guard VS. Gin Kings , Jayjay, MC47, Pacana , Artadi, Escalona Gin Kings has the most powerful guard position in the league today. Expect Arboleda to muscle out JJ, if they could contain JJ, it would spell big trouble for us. Air 21 's game is run and gun just like the gins, but the gins is the best transition defender too in the league. Expect a lot of running from both teams. ADVANTAGE : Gins Small Forward NUMBER 3 position J.C. Intal07 - Forward Niño Cañaleta09 - Forward Gabby Espinas10 - Forward VS. Salvacion, Valenzuela, Wilson. the gin kings could contain the best small forwards of air 21, due to the fact of experience of Sunday and Junthy. Canaleta is just a showtime player , come crunch time, he won't be a factor and would CHOKE. Advantage : Gin Kings Centers Ervin Sotto 13 - Center/Forward Homer Se16 - Center/Forward Doug Kramer18 - Center VS. MAMARIL , Reavis Reavis long hands, and his great improvement in the last series, would give air 21 a very big headache. Advantage : Gin Kings Power Forward Arwind Santos29 - Forward Ranidel de Ocampo33 - Forward VS. MENK, CRISANO If Menk improves in this series, Crisano plays with his head. This is series is OVER it would be a sweep. But that would be a big what if in Menk's game and Crisnao as he will be task to guard steven thomas at the early going on the game. Advantage : Air 21 IMPORTS Steven Thomas55 - Forward VS. TOOTHPICk Steven Thomas would be the biggest headache of our team, if this guy will not be check early, specially if toothpick got into early foul trouble, this will spell disaster for our team, Ginebra is a team that is good with transition defense , but is very weak when defending the post. Thomas is an excellent post player with very good permiter game, this would give us a lot of trouble, he might torch us 30 plus pionts a game in this series, if Jong won't make him earn his points. Advantage : Air 21 Coach : JOng has the greater advantage overall bo perasol which is a rookie in terms of playoff and finals. Experience would play a big role on crunch time. OVERALL : the longer the series the better for Ginebra, Gin would win this series, because of poise and experience as the Air 21 with young guns in Santos and canaleta, those players will still choke under pressure, Arboleda and Thomas...this two players i am very wary about. I hope the coaching staff of ginebra will find a solution to stop thomas and arboleda. a very very interesting match. Gins in 6 or 7..... Quote Link to comment

Agent_mulder
You cannot take that team for granted, some members kept on saying that with the way Ginebra is playing lately that (mbm or) air21 dont stand a chance against them but we must also take into consideration on how air21 is playing lately as of late. Thomas just like Alexander might not contribute heavily sa scoring but his team mates are the one who is doing the damage and are more confident to take their shots as he is there for the possible rebound.. kung gagamitin si PABLO pwede ba sya itapat pang depensa kay SANTOS? malabo yun bro. arwind will run circles on pablo. likely matchup will be junthy on arwind ang mga problema sa air21 sila arboleda and deocampo. i still remember ung AFC nung pinatay single-handedly ni arboleda ang BGK.and deocampo had a field day. however, dont count on your horses yet. MBM still has something to say about this. Mukhang mahihirapan si Pablo kay Arwind dahil mas mabilis si Arwind, pag nilagay mo naman si Junthy kay Arwind he will shoot over him or post him up, si Reavis sana magandang match-up kay Arwind or De Ocampo dahil he is the fastest among the big men of Ginebra but then again t'yak ang gagawin nila d'yan they will make Arwind or De Ocampo stay away from the shaded area hence drawing Reavis outside para hindi s'ya makakuha ng rebounds (na malaki ang contribution n'ya doon sa series nila against rb). pogi_cute
i dont agree that uichico has a big advantage vs perasol. uichico has the luxury of coaching good teams with good players. thats the only reason why he has a winning record. but if you are going to analyze his career, he is a damn bad coach. he doesnt know how to use/utilize players and nerbyoso. for me, its a good thing that tubid was injured, or else, uichico is going to have a hard time in rotating the guards. its going to be close series. advantage is to gins because of its players. but take note, coaches will play a crucial role in the series which air21 has the advantage. pogi_cute
the only factor that the gins have won 8 straight games is the run and gun and bara bara play of artadi, mark, junthy and jj. i dont think they have run a lot of plays during those games. i hope that they can sustain this. for me, credit should be given to the players not uichico. uichico = siot. i pity smb corp, out of the 3 teams they have, only gregorio i guess deserves to be retained. it will be a good series. i dont think there will be a sweep. [TWO]RERO
Gregorio?? PF fans wants him out. have you watch PF games? mostly 1on1 plays.. lol Players wins Games.. Coaches looses them.. pity you did not see Ginebra's Rebounds (Alexander, Reavis), 3 point shooting(JayJay, Sunday and even Artadi) and Defense (Valenzuela, Pacana) that got them where they are now. also Jong's decision making Caguioa a 6th man. nobody anticipated Ginebra will sweep Red Bull.. nothing is imposible NEVER SAY DIE! pogi_cute
pls read again my post before you comment. im no questioning the players of the gins. also, its not the decision of jong to make mark the 6th man of the team, its just a coincidence because he is coming from an injury. as to gregorio, if the only reason you got is fans wants him out, maybe you need to think first before making comments. LOL! as i have said in my previous post, gins have the advantage but i dont think it will be a sweep. both teams have intensity and run and gun game. it will boil down to the coaches. also, i dont agree that players win games alone, both players and coaches win and lose games. Gregorio?? PF fans wants him out. have you watch PF games? mostly 1on1 plays.. lol Players wins Games..
