dmitri
and there were many other items much more expensive in hk. Especially books.Anyone try to browse their bookstores? Their books are too expensive that even if you add in the duties/tax from order thru Amazon it would be still cheaper. US and UK are still cheaper when it comes to shoes since I collect only collaboration (ex. y-3 ,puma mihara etc)and distinct (adidas slvr). The cheaper items from HK would be high-end watch (IWC, Officine Panerai,Audemars Piguet etc), SLR cameras , and of course toys ( Hot Toys). Quote Link to comment
vanexel
^ thanks for sharing. i particularly appreciate knowing that they have an outlet store in orlando. can't wait. naiinis lang ako because i had the chance to buy the y-3 while i was in honolulu last april (ahem ) for us$200 but i didn't fork the dough knowing i'd be in hong kong after 2 weeks. tapos us$240 pala yung same shoe sa hong kong. big mistake. bro, it used to be.. unfortunately, times have changed. but you are right about buying things not found here. made me laugh there. kaso, almost everything can be bought here. and the ones (brands) that aren't, i don't particularly sponsor used to be when exchange rate was 1:3.3, but not medyo mahal na, but still brands like uniqlo is so much cheaper compared to uniqlo in singapore, h&m is not found here, lots of nice shoes in mongkok, automatic 20% off even for new arrivals, lots o variety on new balance shoes, ben sherman shirts are nice compared to those old stocks being sold at shangrilathats why i rarely go to hongkong now to shop, singapore for me is better, lots of brands to choose from, will be going this wednesday for the great singapore sale, hehe Quote Link to comment
kanski
^ unfortunately for me, travel season is over. enjoy your trip pero hinayhinay sa shopping! haha.. The cheaper items from HK would be high-end watch (IWC, Officine Panerai,Audemars Piguet etc), SLR cameras , and of course toys ( Hot Toys). allow me to refute this. up until now, i was embarrassed to name the watch that i initially wanted to buy. but for our discussion's sake, let me say that i was looking forward to buying a portuguese chronograph in hk. mindful of the best price lucerne can give, i trooped to the iwc a.d. in central's prince bldg and asked for the price of the said watch. turns out, it was more expensive there by around php40k kaya hindi ko na siya binili. but as i have said earlier, not all things, watches included, are more expensive in hk. the watch i finally decided to buy, whose brand you did not list, is more expensive here in manila. ganid
But generally, be ready to pay a 10% premium over internet prices. Mahal ang renta ng mga tindahan sa HK. Pero sulit na yon to see and feel an item before buying. Quote Link to comment
kanski
snatch, nice watch the explorer II. me, i saved between php30-40k buying my watch there, depending largely on what the exchange rate was at the instant i bought it. the peso was erratic when i left, probably due to the instability of the election's outcome, and was swinging from php 5.75 - 5.90 to a hk $1.00. 8387
The key to finding bargains in HK is research.Know what you want to buy -- the model, style, price in the Philippines, and prices on the internet. In general, I always buy what is made in that country.Hence, when I go to Thailand and look at sports clothes, I check the NIKE label and make sure it is "made in Thailand".Same thing with HK, if it's not made there or "made in China", you can be sure it will be expensive. But the sales in HK can be generous. Buy "off season" -- swimsuits when autumn has began. Winter clothes at the start of spring.Unless you want to be trendy. There are several outlet stores, Citygate being one of the biggest.Just remember, just because it is in HK, it is not cheap. They just might have the latest styles and models -- which will take 3 to 4 months to find its way to the Philippines. Quote Link to comment
rockchic
true, homme et femme is pretty okay na rin with the prices, although i don't like the selection that much. but if you want to buy now, well that's the only place to buy it here in manila. who shops at the I.T shops, I haven't visited hongkong for the last 2 yrs, so i don't know if the I.T shops are still worth visiting when it comes to some off-season designer items. dmitri
I.T.shop now carries those obscure japanese brands.Been also to their outlet in silvercord a few weeks ago but not much to buy.If you're into t-shirts, they do have a lot. Quote Link to comment

deepdiverboy
for the Shoppingerras, go to Tung Chung, Citygate Outlet. You'll find sport's wears, accessories, designer fashions and children's wear in an air-conditioned shopping mall. Its just a minute walk from Tung Chung MTR. There are more than 50 stores with discounts up to 60% OFF, like Mango, PUMA, Adidas, Nike, Giordano, Esprit, CLub 21 (which houses DKNY, Armani), Prada, Coach, Burberry, Kate Spade etc. hinigop ako ng mga shops sa Hong Kong. buti nakalabas ako ng buhay! I was about to report this, pero meron na palang post. This is a very good shopping outlet for branded items. I get my sneakers here, and they mark down their prices way ahead of Nike and Adidas in the Philippines. You could get them for as low as 50% off while they're still full price in Manila. Great shops too, wide selection of shoe models, unlike in depots in Manila. They also have a good bakeshop downstairs and coffee shops all around, in case you need a mid-shopping snack break.
